Also is this one any good compared to the 2?

As before, is there a special power supply for all the controls?
|
I personally can't say. As far as my dad tells me, the I-PAC 2 is the standard. He recently bought one for another one of the cabinets that was $20 cheaper, but it was not the standard.
The controls are powered by the motherboard you're using (think of it like a normal keyboard, how there's no power supply needed for it, but when you plug it into the motherboard, it supplies its own power).

I was just thinking that since one of the plans I found mentions a old computer power supply. Maybe its for something else then.
And do you know what type it was that your dad got for $20 less?

It apparently doesn't have a name, but its this one he's getting.
He said that when you pull it in, it'll see the controls as a thrust joystick and that the reason why he got it was because the harness that comes with it is pre-wired and $20 less than the I-PAC 2 (the I-PAC 2 was much more compatible, but since my dad is tech savvy, he can handle this one). where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

It looks like with that one you don't sick the wires in holes and tighten the screw, but you crimp ends on the wire and stick then on the pins. So will it work good for just the 2 joysticks and buttons otherwise?
And will the controls get the same power by running on USB instead of the PS/2?order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

Well then I know what I am getting then! Thanks again for the help!
Would a track ball for a computer work with the arcade? And would the cheaper one you linked work with a trackball and spinner?

Yes. But most I've seen are much smaller than the 3" arcade ones. Most ones made for a PC are designed to be moved by your fingers and not your whole hand, like in the arcades. But, it is an option.
As far as what games can be played with what setup goes, you can play any game with any controller scheme. Mame is extremely flexible, when setting up inputs. They usually have digital and analog setup options for games that used analog input in the arcades. For instance, you can set up one button to rotate Tron's arm to the left and another button to rotate Tron's arm to the right. Same with the Tank and MCP levels. Driving games that used analog pedals in the arcade can be set up to use buttons instead. It's of course, going to be much more difficult to play the game. Games that use a spinner for instance allow you to move an object faster with how quickly you turn the spinner, but with buttons your locked into a set speed that you can configure. Tron, Arkanoid and Heavy Barrel were the reasons I purchased the spinner. It made the games many times more enjoyable and well worth the money. With Heavy Barrel and Tron, I had to use my Thrustmaster as the stick so I could have some buttons to use.

Well, if it's a computer trackball, then it should just plug into a usb port. I'm assuming your talking about something like this.
http://reviews.cnet.com/trackballs/kensington-orbit-optical-trackball/4505-3150_7-20719691.html
You shouldn't need anything fancy to power your arcade. Your pc's power supply should take care of just about everything. A standard black computer power strip will be enough to plug in your pc, sound system and any lighting for your cab.
Now, if your just building a control panel, then you don't need anything to power it. It will get it's power from the usb port.
The coin door is something I'm still learning to setup, you'd have to do a little more research in some of the home arcade forums and sites. As I learn more, I'll pass it on to you, unless you discover it first.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill Jet Lives! |

Yep. Something like this would be more than enough. http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=SPP4061I%2F17&dct=FAQ&faqview=1&new_tmpl=1&refdisplay=POWERSURGE_79640&refnr=0079640&scy=US&slg=AEN
Now another consideration is if your going to have your cab hooked to the internet, for when your using it as a PC. You'd need something like this with the female side sticking out the back of the cab, so you could hook up a cable without opening the cab from the back constantly. http://www.amazon.com/QVS-350MHz-CAT5E-Crossover-Female/dp/B0052C0X4E
Of course, you could use a wireless router and a usb receiver in the cab.
Also, I found a topic in a byoac forum where the guy hooked up a coin door.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=111639.0It seems straightforward enough. Jet Lives! |

Any of those would work. Although, the PowerSquid might create a little more work when it comes to cable management inside the cab.
Another thing is, some people will just mount the computer case inside of the cab while others might mount the pc board and components inside the cab without a case like actual arcade cabs. This can help reduce the weight of the cab. Think about mounting a cd/dvd/blueray drive somewhere easily accessible. Maybe a slot loading drive. Jet Lives! |

I think it will be staying in the case since its not that heavy. And for the dvd drive (I have an extra one) what about under the keyboard drawer (yup, I will have one) and above the coin slot?
So the surge protection is strong enough on the regular one?
And if I got another power bar what do you think the minimum should be for the surge protection?where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Mounting it above the coin door sounds fine. As far as the surge protector goes, it all depends on what your powering. I've seen some people put an amp and a large sub woofer in their cab along with the two mids above the screen, so they could use it as a kind of jukebox as well. But, I'd be nervous about having a hard hitting sub woofer in the same space as the pc. The vibration has to be rough on the pc components.
Personally, I'd only mount two, decent, self powered pc speakers inside the cab, with some kind of wall plate mounted to the back. Not necessarily this one but something similar.
http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-6.1-Speaker-wall-plate-with-2-x-HDMI-inputs.htmlBetween the screen, pc, speakers and florescent or led light for the marquee and coin door, a normal pc power strip should be enough.
Another way around all this is to mount the computer case completely to the inside back of the cab, and have openings cut out for the PC I/O plate and power cables. Then you'd have full access to the back of your pc just the same as if it's siting on your desk. And just have surge protector sitting there to hook everything up.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill onlineabortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion Jet Lives! |

I'm not sure if all coin doors are mechanical. But, the one you linked to on ebay looks similar to the one used in the project I linked to. I think the only difference is that the one on ebay appears to be plastic while the one in the forum is metal. I'd sign up to the byoac forum I linked to and see if the guy, "Minions", is willing to explain it to you or give you more detailed shots of the setup. In that forum topic he explains what he used to light up the coin door.
My suggestions are the simple way to do it. If you want to get into wiring up the lighting in the arcade machine using fixtures, then that gets a little more complected. And since I'm not an electrician, I'd be mimicking what others have done in the past, instead of trying to design the setup from scratch, when it comes to wiring up lights.
But, when you use a power strip in the cabinet, you just plug everything into it much like a regular entertainment center or computer desk. Think of the cab as a entertainment center shaped like an arcade machine with a arcade panel that plugs into your usb port. The light for the marquee could be just a plug in fluorescent light, that would plug into the power strip. http://www.amazon.com/Under-Cabinet-Fluorescent-Light-Stick/dp/B0026KW4QK
Your power strip can then be used to turn everything on and off. By mounting the powerstrip at the back o the arcade cab, you could have a hole in the back plane to reach a finger in an turn the system off and on.
Edit - I found a link to this in the BYOAC forums. It'll give you a general introduction to the process. http://spystyle.arcadecontrols.com/2000/index00.htm Jet Lives! |

I just re-read this post so I figred this was the easy way to do it, as it is.
So a switch like these?
