Build a Arcade?

on Monday, December, 12, 2011 6:09 PM
Is there a way to build a Arcade machine from a old computer and monitor? The computer runs Windows XP (which makes it VERY slow) and has the AMD equivalent of Pentium 3 (this is my old computer, I have a much better one now!). I have heard of programs to make a computer run as a arcade interface that hides Windows and controls that will work with common games (must work with Tron!) but I would like links and info on that. Also where can the arcade games be found?

And would running another OS or a earlier version of Windows make it faster?order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

The answer is yes.

You can run MAME on almost any computer (it's designed to work on Windows-based OSes, many resources available on how to build one and a few blueprints on how to make your own cabinet, as well as many users over at Instructables who have constructed their own arcade machines (in various different sizes),. order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Thanks! So would MAME work with a slow Pentium 3 and not make slow games?
Also where could I find the Tron arcade ROM?

As far as I know, from what I've read, MAME can work on a Pentium 3 (as you can see here). You can type in "Arcade Game rom" in a search engine and find various sites (but be careful and have your virus protection on. You never know). But keep in mind, controlling the TRON ROM is going to be difficult/impossible (as the game originally required the spinning dial as one of the controls for your character. There's no setting for such a control using the keyboard).

people have used MAME inside arcade cabinets. i can't remember if they used controllers or the cab's joystick/buttons. it could be possible to have an all in one arcade control layout. as far as a rom, try *link removed*.

Yeah and I think you can buy the arcade joy sticks as well.

I want to build an home arcade with big screen TV..
arcade buttons and joy sticks...
and big speakers...
then turn the garage into a cool place with lights and stuff like that..
I think it would be cool to hang out in there
and drink beer.. and listen to daft punk and play video games..

That's why I thought there would be arcade controls you can buy that plug into a computer.
And is there controls that have spinning dials and the normal controls for other games?
And any links for these?

Please don't post links to sites where you can download ROMs. What you guys do privately is your own business. Use search engines to find them. But don't post links here, which can get our site into trouble with the law.

There are places that sell parts for arcade machines, some of them even for MAME cabinets. Some eBay users sell parts and pieces, but it really depends on what you're going for. My dad took a non-functional Karate Champ arcade machine and is making it into a MAME cabinet. Since Karate Champ was played with joysticks only, my dad ordered buttons that light up for his cabinet off of eBay, and gutting a game controller to use for the wiring up the joystick and buttons (he did it because he is pretty much the "masterblaster" when it comes to electronics and since he had most of the parts already like the monitor and the motherboard, found the arcade cabinets at one of the dumpsters here in my hometown {yes, I said "cabinets" as more than one, and in a small town at that}, getting a Logitech gaming joystick from Goodwill for $7 to gut out made sense and to keep to the low cost of the overall project low).

For the controllers you mentioned, yes, there is a company called X-Arcade (aka X-Gaming) that sells controllers. The problem with them is not only their pricing (if you're putting more than $500 into your cabinet, then there's no problem. They also sell individual parts, but they're also pretty pricey), but there's a small number of commercial game parts. For a Spinner, should you decide to include one, you'd end up paying a lot for a spinner. Some suggest just making one. Of course, building one requires some electronics know-how. But, BYOACWiki has info on both.order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

Thanks for the link! I will likely go for the DIY spinner since I am not putting that much into it. And when you said gutting the joystick what did you do with it after that?
Also how do you wire all the buttons, joysticks, spinners, etc. into the computer?

He's got the joystick gutted but hasn't wired the buttons up yet. Basically, inside a joystick, there are a series of sensors that when you move a joystick or push a button, it makes contact with a sensor on this board and its transmitted through a USB cable to the computer. Basically, when you're playing a video game with a joystick, if you push forward, the computer would read the action as up (or forward). So, basically, he's rigging these sensors so that they can be read by the computer.

We haven't gotten to wiring everything, but if you look around online, there may be a few resources that discuss how to wire things, including Instructables (which I've linked before) and Build Your Own Arcade Controls.

So if the joysticks send the single to the computer just by plugging them in, why would they need to be changed to have the computer read it?

The changes are for making the typical arcade push buttons to work with the joystick electronics.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

So your making the contacts from the joysticks into push buttons?
Also in searching for info I read that not all arcade games work with USB controls. Is this true?order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

Actually, we're making the push buttons work with the contacts (you push a button, it makes contact with the board, sends the signal to the computer, telling it "hey, this button was pressed, so this action needs to be done).

I don't know if any of them work with USB controllers or not. All I know is that the games work using typical keyboards for sure. But as for if they work with USB controls, I'd have to ask my dad (as he's done more research and playing around with MAME than I have).

So how would the computer know that when the button was pressed it was not still a joystick command?
And is this joystick you have a USB one?

I'll have to ask my Dad about it, as now I'm not sure if it is a USB one. All I know is that he's rigging the buttons so that when he presses the one for jump, the computer understands he's pressing the one for jump.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

This is where I go to get my parts.

http://na.suzohapp.com/
You can get parts to build a Tron arcade here.

http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=319
And MAMEworld has some links above for arcade cabs, controllers, spinners and parts.

Also, you can get parts or entire assembly for the original Star Wars arcade (vector graphics) flight yoke here.

http://ram-controls.com/order-sw.html
Tron, Disks of Tron and Star Wars are my all time favorite arcade games. Hoping to pick them up over the next few years. Especially since I found these original parts. Although, finding Disks of Tron is extremely difficult, if not impossible.order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Thanks for the links but wow are they expensive!!!!
Is it better to try and make some of it like the spinner?
Also are coin slots necessary?

Coin slots aren't really necessary since this is something that you're making for yourself. Adding a coin slot (functional or non-functional) is primarily for authenticity (as we know arcade machines have coin slots).where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online
