That's great, thanks. I'll get to work on that!

Mr. Sinistar Wrote:Gosh, no; this movie is going to be maybe 6-7 minutes tops, so this movie shouldn't take that must space on the DVD at all.
That's a relief. I was worried my hard drive would cave in, trying to edit three long movies at once! Random Wars is taking up 8GB with nearly 7,000 files, and another movie I'm editing for some friends is taking up 17GB, with nearly 1,000 files.

NoExcuses Wrote:My dad and I really like jazz. You gotta love Herbie Hancock. And Steely Dan, of course. Could "The Art of Noise" be considered as '80s rock? lol
By '80s rock, I was thinking more along the lines of Van Halen and Toto. But I'm a huge Steely Dan fan.

OK, I've more-or-less done the DVD menu, except for the title (which is currently 'TITLE'), and I might tweak it a bit if I feel like it, or if anyone has any suggestions. I've tested it out, and all three buttons work.

The buttons are white in their 'normal' mode, and red when they're being hovered over. I added some gaussian blur to the Recognizers and tanks, to emphasise the Cycle a bit more. You might notice the sudden appearance of a game grid on the floor, too

Right - for the commentary, would it be a good idea to have the three of us do a voice chat (and here's the clever part), so we hear each other in low quality, but we record our own voice (at the same time) in high quality, and then once the voice chat is finished, we assemble all the three clips together, so it's the same as the voice chat, but this time in high quality? Of course, for that to work, we'd all have to be watching the movie, at the same time, synchronised (like a private, low quality version on YouTube). Just a suggestion.

And in other news, this is my 888th post.

I would like the faded part please. I think I have an idea for the corners. How about, I spilt one lightcycle shot into several shots depending on how many turns the lightcycle(s) make. First, I'll render one clip of the lightcycle moving in one direction and when it's about to make the turn, I'll stop the rendering. Then, I'll rotate the lightcycle and add another plane in a different direction, thus creating our 90 degree turn. Then, rinse and repeat. When I'm done, I'll add all of the clips together in VirtualDub and volia, one neat shot!

Ok, unfortunately I'm gonna have to delay things a little bit. Before I went to work last night I had set my computer to render an animation for another project I'm working on... It's only 160 frames, but I set the quality to 100% with raytracing, motion blur, etc... Well, Silly me I figured it woulda been done by now, but here it is 2pm and it STILL isn't done... LOL... And at the rate it's rendering, probably won't be done until late tonight, or maybe even tomorrow morning....
SO, As soon as it's done I'll get the grids and that shaded trail sent to you.... Any preference on color? Or would you like one of each?

As for the trails.... That MIGHT work, but you'd have to do some creative masking to hide the 'extra' sections of trail that would be sticking out when you made the turns.... I've got another idea in mind that I'll try out in the morning when my comp is done... LOL I'll let ya know how it works!

I think you guys will get a kick out of the other vid I'm rendering... It's not tron-related, but it's still pretty cool...

You guys might want to buy and read this book:

Essential CG Lighting Techniques with 3ds Max by: Darren Brooker.

I realize you guys may not be using 3ds but the info really is applicable to all CG work. Lights across the different platforms more or less behave the same ways.

It has lots of tips and tutorials on creating great lighting and tips to meetings production schedules while still providing excellent light and shadow solutions.

Using the right lights types and the right shadow settings can save you guy an enormous amount for rendering time.

Heya zook, thanks for the tip!

Actually, I've been involved in a lot of film-making stuff over the past couple years, and have learned a lot about lighting, etc... This current scene I'm working on, (which is STILL rendering, btw... frame 135/160, going on 2 days now) only has 2 lights in it, which is actually less than most would have... My render times aren't great due to 2 reasons:

1) For this particular shot, I wanted top quality, as it involves some close-ups... So I turned on all the anti-aliasing, raytracing, radiosity, motion blur, etc.... So my comp is doing a LOT of calculating for each frame..

2) My comp is an Athlon 64, but I'm still running WinXP... No native 64bit support, and Blender doesn't make use of the 64bit systems either.... So I might as well be on a low-end P4 as far as Blender is concerned... Good thing I've got lots of RAM and a huge HD.... lol

Sinistar: I'll get you those files as soon as my comp finishes... whenever that ends up being... LOL... Currently I'm stuck checking my messages & whatnot from my wife's comp, or while I'm at work tonight.... HOPEFULLY it wont take too much longer... lol

NoExcuses: That menu looks awesome! Nice job!
As for the commentary, I'm not sure how easy it would be to get us all on a voice chat that we could record.... Might almost be better, since it's a short video, to do different commentaries from our different points of view.... Aka: Mine could be the modeling standpoint, Sinistar's could be the animator's, etc.... But whatever you guys decide, I'm up for it!order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

I can't wait to see the final product, Chikan! I bet it's great! Oh, don'tr worry about getting those models to me as soon as possible. I'm in no rush...yet.

I agree with you Chikan. We should each have our own commentary; it's a lot more simpler that way, uh, I think. We'll, see how it goes.

Well, in that case, say hello to the commentary menu!

It's accessible by clicking 'Commentary' on the main menu (duh!). Red is unselected, cyan is selected. I need a photo of each of you to go in your respective boxes - (Modeller - Chikan, Animator - Sinistar, Editor - me. I know Sinistar is doing some modelling aswell, but it's easier if I only have to put one word under each box - right? )

LOL!! Awesome guys! I'll see if I've got a good pic around here somewhere...

In the meantime, Sinistar: If you haven't already, check your inbox... I sent you those .blend files you've been asking for. //MCP

When I realized that video I was rendering wasn't gonna be done for another week, I gave up and cancelled it. Turned the Raytracing off, rendered again, and presto... It was done in 30 minutes.... Freakin Raytracing.... LOL

As I said, it's not Tron-related, but here ya go:

This is a highly compressed version, hence the blurriness.. But it gives an idea..

EDIT: Erf... Looks like the best pic I have at the moment, is the one I send to the "Who's Your User" gallery... So I guess we'll just have to use that...

Robots in Disguise!
Great video! It would have been cool with raytracing, but a week is pushing it a little...

More than meets the eyes!
Nothin' beats the Transformers. 'Cept Tron, of course

LOL! That's a great video! I showed it to my brother (big Transformers fan) and thought it was really great.

@NoExcuses
You know, that commentary menu looks pretty weird now!

Here's shot #8: The first shot on the game grid. Blender was a little bit stubborn while I'll was animating this, but I thought it came out very well.

I'm confused... the shots I have go 1, 2, 3, 5, 8. What happened to shots 4, 6 and 7?

Anyway, shot 8 is really cool!

And for your viewing pleasure:

I've put Chikan in place now. Also, you can see the highlight colour of the Menu button, when it's selected.

Awesome man! Lookin good! LOL

Curious though... Is there one L or 2 in Modeler? I'm not entirely sure! LOL

Oh, and in regards to the Transformers thing, I'm making a fanmade teaser trailer for the upcoming movie.... And I FINALLY finished the CGI work tonight! So now all I have left is adding text screens, music, and sound fx..... I'll let you guys know when it's done, so you can have first peek...

I haven't finished the sound effects on some of the shots, and I have to reanimate shot 4 because I forgot to animate the "spokes" on the lightcycle.

Before I forget, I have to mention that the previous shots that I have posted are NOT named right. I made a mistake and accidently named them wrong. Don't worry; pretty soon, I'll post the correct names for shots 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8. I numbered them by when I made them and not by appearence in the film, which I should have done.

Actually both spellings of modeler are correct, according to Merriam-Webster.

Can't wait to see the final product, Chikan!

Damn you, Spider-Man!

I checked, and it turns out the British spelling is modeller, and the American spelling is modeler. But seeing as there are two of you and one of me, I'll change it to modeler.

Cool!

I love the DVD selection screens you guys are coming up with!

Maybe just use the term vector construction and implementation artist - it's less confusing to spell.

Hey guys, I'm back! I hit a creative streak earlier today, and was able to not only finish the CGI, but also the sound, music, and everything for my trailer! So without further ado, here it is! Let me know what you think!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNPUnX3-6Lg
NOTE: Thanks to YouTube's crappy compression, you can hardly see it in the little window. It shows up decently if you hit the FullScreen button though. I really wish I could post a high-res version somewhere though, cause it looks SO much better without the compression.... Problem is, the uncompressed one is also 2 GIGS.... lolwhere to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

MSN only allows voice chat between two people, and NetMeeting doesn't work on XP (I don't think) because it was replaced by MSN messenger. Plus, we've already decided to have multiple commentaries - I've already made the DVD commentary menu!
