Excellent script! I'm liking where it's going, but rather you than me on the animation for all that! Looks damn complicated...
They look loads better at full quality. I've put them with their brother in the TronOS.prl Premiere file.
I think that might be a good song to have everyone dancing to in the credits!

I didn't mean a narrator - I meant just everyone involved films themself doing their job and telling the camera what they're doing, with little snippets of the film and stuff. Just a little 5 minute feature.

Well, the script seems cool, and I could see immediately where the different shots you've rendered so far come into play, based on your descriptions.. Very cool...
For some reason though, I couldn't get the clips... My comp said the .zip files were invalid or corrupted, and wouldn't open them... Not sure why?
Game grid, eh? Do you need the WHOLE thing, or just like, a section of it? That pic in my gallery of the cycles on the game grid was actually just a corner area that I created... I STARTED trying to do a whole grid, but after adding all the necessary lighting my comp was DRAGGING.... LOL (Pretty bad, considering I'm workin on a high-end Athlon 64 system)
But let me know what all you need, and I'll get to work on it!abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

Ooh, making an entire game grid? Ouch. I made one once which didn't even have any 'decoration' on the walls, but it came to 9.9MB because I modelled every square on the grid, rather than just use a texture...

Heya guys!
Sinistar: I've got a couple different grids done up for ya. One is just a VERY large plane, with the grid texture to it... Useful for those high-speed overhead shots.... The other is a large corner-area of a grid, complete with decorated walls... I did a quick test vid with one of my cycle models, so you can get an idea how it looks... Let me know if this is what you were needing!

Hey everyone!
Sorry I haven't been around the Sector lately. It's been a busy week for me lately. And my mom won't let me go on the computer... that doesn't help.
@Chikan
I'm glad you like the script! Sorry the ZIPs don't work. What is your OS? My Windows 98 can't open any EXEs made in XP, so your problem might along the same lines as that. Maybe NoExcuses can email the AVIs to you.
The grid you made in the video is great! Could you please send the plane, as well the corner models to me? I would also love to have that lightcycle "jet wall" model please. Thanks, a lot, Chikan!
Oh, BTW, can you tell me how to do the "flashing spokes" on the lightcycle?
@NoExcuses
I'll put up a link to one of my best MP3s tomorrow.
Speaking of music, I've been working on some music for the movie. I'll upload the credits song tomorrow as well.
Finally, here's another rendered shot, along with a separate sound file:

Heya! Welcome back!
Yea, I'm on XP here both at home and work, so I suppose that could be the problem...
I'm at work right now, (graveyard... bleh... lol) but when I get home I'll send you both of my grids... As for the jetwall, are you talking about the actual trail, or the part just behind the cycle that fades from white into the color? The faded part I could send you... The trail is just a blue glowing plane that I parented to the cycle so it follows it.. trick photography, eh? Unfortunately, this wouldn't work for turning corners... Still trying to visualize how to do that part...
As for the spokes: Ok, here's my quick & dirty Blender tutorial for things that blink or flash...
1) First off, create the white spoke, assign whatever colors/glows to it you want, and place it where it should be in relation to the cycle... (aka, on the wheels.. lol)
Make sure it's a separate object though, not connected...
2) Then what you need to do, is go to object mode, select the spoke, then shift-select the cycle, (so they're both highlighted) and make the cycle the PARENT of the spoke... This way, no matter where the cycle moves/turns, the spoke follows...
3) Now... Here's the not-so-fun/monotonous part... For the frames where you want the spoke to disappear, select the spoke, hit M for 'move' and put it on a different layer, like say, layer 2. Then go ahead and hit I to create a keyframe, (after you've moved the cycle as necessary), and keyframe not only the Location/Rotation/Size, but be sure to keyframe the LAYER as well. THEN, switch your view to layer #2 (or wherever you moved the spoke), select it, and keyframe layer 2 as well. (Yes, you HAVE to keyframe both layers, otherwise Blender will just throw the spoke back on layer 1)
For the frames where you want the spoke visible, the reverse is true. Go to layer 2, select the spoke, hit M and move it back to layer 1, then keyframe layer 1. (The key to this, is to remember to keyframe the "Layer" as well as "LocRotSize")
And there you have it. Now you see why I said it's a chore to do... Unfortunately, it wouldn't be a whole lot easier for me in After Effects, and in reality it probably wouldn't look as good anyway.
Be happy though. At least you don't have to keyframe all the lights on a policecar lightbar like I recently did in Blender.... Talk about a PAIN... (I'll show you the vid if you want.. It actually looks kinda cool)

While we're on the subject of music, a few months ago, on another forum, there was a 3D game in development. I was making the music for it. Of course, the game never happened and most of the users have long since left the forum. Anyway, the music I made for the game never got used, so I thought I'd see if you wanted any for this movie. It's not very 'Tronny' and probably won't fit the movie too well, but I'll offer you them anyway.
(NB: Some songs have instruments panned to the left or right channels, so I hope you have stereo speakers!)
This one was for the first minigame.
This one was for the end credits (and was loosely based on the Tron theme).
This was for the title screen (and has a very funky but hard to play bassline).
And this was just generic music for something (I forget what).
This one wasn't made for the game, but the tune came to me when bored in a French lesson last year, with the lyrics 'Hello there, Mr. Pyjamas' over the general melody. I'm a bit odd like that.
They're currently midi files, but if you decide you want any, I'll record them as .mp3 files (with actual instruments and good synths, rather than crappy midi )

I was getting that problem at first. Copy the URL and paste it into a browser window, that should work.

I would like the faded part please. I think I have an idea for the corners. How about, I spilt one lightcycle shot into several shots depending on how many turns the lightcycle(s) make. First, I'll render one clip of the lightcycle moving in one direction and when it's about to make the turn, I'll stop the rendering. Then, I'll rotate the lightcycle and add another plane in a different direction, thus creating our 90 degree turn. Then, rinse and repeat. When I'm done, I'll add all of the clips together in VirtualDub and volia, one neat shot!

No, the Anim8ed Club forum. Formed from migrating members of the dead Young Anim8ors Club forum, and Anim8ed Club has more or less died in the past few months. We never really had more than 20 members, and only a handful of members who regularly posted.

Wow - after looking through my neglected geocities account (which I haven't used for ages), I found a version of the first song (the one made for the minigame) which I recorded with synths and my (not very good) keyboard playing. Ok, unfortunately I'm gonna have to delay things a little bit. Before I went to work last night I had set my computer to render an animation for another project I'm working on... It's only 160 frames, but I set the quality to 100% with raytracing, motion blur, etc... Well, Silly me I figured it woulda been done by now, but here it is 2pm and it STILL isn't done... LOL... And at the rate it's rendering, probably won't be done until late tonight, or maybe even tomorrow morning....
SO, As soon as it's done I'll get the grids and that shaded trail sent to you.... Any preference on color? Or would you like one of each?
As for the trails.... That MIGHT work, but you'd have to do some creative masking to hide the 'extra' sections of trail that would be sticking out when you made the turns.... I've got another idea in mind that I'll try out in the morning when my comp is done... LOL I'll let ya know how it works!
I think you guys will get a kick out of the other vid I'm rendering... It's not tron-related, but it's still pretty cool...

Mr. Sinistar Wrote:Just wondering, do you think it's possible to do a "Full-length commentary", or is that a little bit too much? |
There may be another way, but the only way I'm aware of is to have two duplicates of the movie on the DVD, one with the commentary, and one without. Then, the 'Commentary' button on the menu would just take you to the version with commentary, and the play button would take you to the normal version. That would take up more space on the disk, but it's the only way I know of. But so long as we're not making a two hour epic (at least I don't think we are...), it should still all fit on the DVD nicely.
