lol, im out of the tron sector for a few weeks and this is what i find?

YOU Fking Beauty!

an open source animator would be brilliant.. as ive been working with the ingame tron movie maker (the map maker) and its been driving me nuts with issue after issue.

i might attack this and see how i go
for sometime ive been working on a tron film, but due to the limits of my rage to the map maker, i could only take it so far before quiting.

i really dont like starting again, but i shall see how it goes. this one might turn out more impressive then ingame

wheres meatsack when you need him?

Excellent work, Mr. Sinistar! I can barely make a model in Blender, let alone animate it like that! That really is amazing.

Oh, in shot 3, you have the pitch of the Lightcycle engine fluctuating up and down. How do you do that? That would be really useful to know!

WOW dude... I just sent you those models like.. what, yesterday?! That's freakin awesome! I never knew my models could look so good! LOL

I'm really glad you like the pic I posted! That makes me feel a lot better now. lol

Chikan Wrote:Yea, movie maker is the p00p when it comes to editing... About the only thing I use it for is importing video footage to my comp from my camcorder... I do all my effects/editing in Adobe After Effects, and sound in Audacity... I can't do full HD (2064x1080 or whatever the hell that resolution is) but then again, I'd HATE to think of the render times trying to do a 3d animation in full HD... lol

Hey, you should see how slow my computer goes when it renders my short clips. That first shot I did - with the recognizers and tanks - took me 2 HOURS to render!

NoExcuses Wrote:I've been doing video work with Adobe Premiere, and I know Chikan has already offered to do video work, but I'd be obliged to provide any additional help if it's needed.

Chikan Wrote:Actually, if you're proficient in Premiere that would be awesome.... After Effects is great for adding special effects & stuff, but that's what it's designed for.. It wasn't really meant to be an overall editor like Premiere is... AE is better for cool nifty effects, but Premiere gives more options for mixing video/audio/transitions, etc... Having both available would make things even better..

Hey, NoExcuses, you can be our editor if you want! And Chikan, you can be our effects supervisor! LOL

Okay, now off to business: The first thing I would like to mention is that the lightcycle in the movie may or may not feature the "flashing spokes" from the original TRON movie. I've tryed to make the spokes flash on and off, but I can't because Blender confuses the spokes to be part of the lightcycle and wants to move the lightcycle instead of the spokes. I bet Chikan can do it, though, but if he can't, then I don't want to waste time just trying to figure out how to animate those spokes.

The other thing is this: Our movie doesn't have a name! If anyone can suggest a cool name for our movie, go right ahead! I kinda want to name our movie after the protagonist (the program escaping from the tanks and recognizers), like how TRON is named after, well you know...

Thanks, for the compliments, Dakota Bob!

Thanks a lot, NoExcuses! For the Lightcycle "revving" I used a music program called, "FL Studio" (non-open-source, unfortunately) to create the music for the movie (more on that later) and the sound effects. First of all, I ripped the lightcycle sfx from the TRON 2.0 "sound.rez" file, and loaded it into a sampler in FL Studio and basically I recorded messing around with the "Pitch Bend" knob, wiggling it with my mouse. The results work quite well, I think!

And finally I wrote a song a while ago, that I think will be a good credits song. I'll upload it here soon. Talk to you guys, later!

Oh, man... I don't know if anyone else is getting this, but this topic format just got really disorted! The posts are sqeezed really close to the right of the page!

CyberBlade, you can be our rendering guy, if you know how to use Blender. Unfortunately, I don't have HDTV so it won't really matter for me.

After thinking about it for a while, I realize we have a problem. How are we going to give our editor (NoExcuses) the AVI files? I was thinking we could send him CD-ROMs through snail mail, but that could get expensive with the shipping and all that. Should we save each frame as an image instead of a movie file, and email them or store them in a online server? Tell me what you think.

How big, on average do you think that each video file will be? With the connection speed I have, I can probably handle about 300-400MB at a time if you attach them to an email.abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

Hey - that looks really cool, Mr. Sinistar!

I'm catching up on some threads I've missed lately and just started skimming through here and found some really cool renders and then the video link. Left you a quick comment on YouTube as well.

I now your sound work isn't finished yet, but what I saw and heard looked and sounded great. You did well with it so far and looking forward to more!

Well, let's take a look at the sizes of the movies here:

shot1 (Recognizers and Tanks) 117 MB
shot2 (Lightcycle in the Memory) 57.2 MB
shot3 (Lightcycle first person) 135 MB

The problem is, my email provide doesn't send email attachments over 1 MB! If we upload them onto a server (with enough space), maybe we can send them like that.

Oh, FYI, the resolution is 848 x 480 px. Just thought you like to know.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

You should play with your video compression methods and maybe render video at something closer to a width of 400. Yes, smaller resolution will result in less quality, but it will fit better (for lack of a better way of putting it) on the internet. Even at full resolution, you should be able to get the file size down a little by working on maximum compression with minimum quality loss. You have to keep experimenting and working toward that optimal compression recipe. I usually use QuickTime format because most people have QuickTime and there are some really good compression options with it. And QuickTime Pro is only $30.00 - an excellent video re-compression utility for the price!

Thanks, a lot, Todd! I really appreciate those compliments! I finally had the chance to watch your famous music video "On The Cutting Room Floor of Oblivion" the other day, and I thought it was absolutely fantastic! I loved the part when the MCP shows up! Oh, did you see my music video? I'm the guy in the TRON helmet.

Thanks for the compression tips, Todd; I loaded my clip into "VirtualDub" (a lifesaver!) and used a Cinepak codec with Quality set to 100%. With that codec, I got the file size from 117 MB to 4.6 MB! And that's including sound! I agree, Quicktime is the best when working with movies, but I kinda want to keep this open-source, ya-know-what-I-mean?

Normally, even though the file size sux, I try to keep all my unedited video clips at Lossless settings... If you compress them, then edit, then compress again, then add sound, etc... Eventually the quality gets so bad it's barely watchable... So I keep it all Lossless until I'm doing my final cuts... Course, my 200 GB hard drive comes in handy for that... LOL

There are some websites where we can send large files back/forth though... Like www.yousendit.com, etc... Or if we get really desperate we could use a P2P thing like Limewire or a Torrent... However you guys want to do it is fine by me...

As for the flashing spokes:
I can do it 2 ways, either directly in Blender, or afterwards as an effect... Doing it afterwards would probably be less work, but probably wouldn't look quite as good...
Mr. Sinistar: If you want me to explain how to do it in Blender so you can just render it out at the same time, PM or email me and I'll do my best to explain it to ya

Also, if you're not trying to be too secretive, think you could shoot me a copy of the script to read? I could use some new reading material, and it might help on picking a title..

TTYL!

After a lot of looking at random buttons, I finally found out how to change Premiere from 4:3 PAL (720x576) to 16:9 NTSC (848x480). The server idea sounds pretty good - that'll make the transferring of files much smoother.

Oh, and Mr. Sinistar - I didn't realise until I watched your videos on YouTube that you are only a year older than me! Now I really am envious of your Blender work!

I'm glad you got Premire to go in 16:9, NoExcuses! Do you think you can do a PAL version of the movie, besides a NTSC version?

Oh, man, that's too funny! It's nice to know I'm not the only "teen" here! I like your trailer for Random Wars; I want to see the whole movie.

Okay, absolutely great news, guys! I should have thought of this earlier: I took one of the the uncompressed shots for the movie and basically put it in a ZIP archive. It's only 9.33 MB! Here's the link:

I'll get the script ready for you soon. I haven't finished writing it yet. I keep on thinking of all of these neat ideas for the lightcycle chase!

@CyberBlade
I'll send you a blend file very soon for you to render! You can upload it to your server when you done.

Sure thing. Just a matter of a few mouse clicks. That shot_1.zip that you posted is great - I've just created a new Premiere project for the movie, and that's the first clip in it. It's interesting having an extra 5fps to deal with.

Do you have a completed script, and if so, will you make it available to the crew? I'd love to see it.

Also, with a combination of Premiere and some fancy layer-naming in Photoshop, I can make custom DVD menus (like this). They're simple to make, and if you plan to distribute this on DVD, I can easily whip one up.

Can I ask - what tutorials did you do to learn Blender? I even have the damn Blender 2.3 guidebook, but I still can't get my head around some parts!
