Halloween 2011 - Its not too early

on Saturday, August, 06, 2011 11:27 AM
So Legacy came out in December which was too late for Halloween last year and ill timed to be the craze this year, but just curious.. anyone planning a Tron costume? Its not too early to start.

I'm going to try and do Clu's robe. Light it up, the works. We'll see. I'm starting on it now. I have my materials, patterns, and a plan.. now all I need is the time. Oh yes.. and a DISC!! Can anyone tell me WHY... they seem to have everyone's disc BUT Clu's????

I am doing a Tron costume, I will be Tron I will make the costume myself and put magnets on batons and discs to make it look realistic. And about Clu's disc, I supose they were going to make one, but Spin Master cancelled the toy line and cancelled everything that was going to be made.

(a big thx to FlynnOne for the awesome pic)

Thanks so much LIT. Your costume sounds great!
Sadly, yes, I called Spinmaster and they said they cancelled everything. I'm not sure if a new company will be taking over for the line, or if whats there is there. That being said.. there is no Clu disc..

When Tron: Uprising comes out, they might make a Clu disc.

I'm sure the Uprising discs will probably be of a different style than the Legacy ones if they release it but plenty of people are selling modded versions over the internet. Sure they are expensive. What I did was bought a Sam disc and got glow in the dark spray paint from glopaint.com. They have it in yellow as well but I believe they are sold out of all of it right now :\. The rings are no longer clear but the light still shines through. You can also probably get away with using glass paint.

I myself am working on a classic Sark costume. You are right...it's never too early.

Six months of planning, a gargantuan budget, and three days to finish before I photobomb David Warner - and all I have to show for my efforts and agony is an arm warmer. 8|

I was reading my forum when I was interested in creating Flynn's black robe and then decided it would be too much work. At that time there were no screencaps and the DVD wasn't out so this thread helped me alot.

*shrugs* I'm just going to wear the costume I made for comic-con. If someone could help me find some reflective blue fabric tape, I would be a very happy spark. The kind of stuff that they put on security jackets and such. You shine a light on it and FLASH!

{A very big thanks to FlynnOne for the pic! And to Wulfeous for sharpening the details!*huggles both*}

Luckily for you, my fandoms are of this interest, be it law enforcement, running, or motorcycles.

Ask the Galls geek and you shall receive!
http://www.galls.com/style-DE125-general_catalog-3m-scotchlite-1-inch-x-150-ft-roll-available-in-reflective-and-non-reflectivehttp://www.galls.com/style-DE180-general_catalog-3m-scotchlite-1--inch-x-60--inch-striping-in-choice-of-reflective-and-non-reflective-styles
(bit pricey, though. And I'm not really sure if you could sew it.)

Or best of all:
http://reflectivelyyours.com/

If you don't want to buy online, I've also read online that you can get it at fabric stores and even use the stuff you get at automotive stores or for bikes. Might try a running or motorcycle shop as well. It might only come in silver, but going over it with a blue permanent marker should make it blue and still let the reflective parts shine through. You'd likely have to re-color it after each wash, though. Could be a pain in the arse. But I suppose you could make it a project for sitting watching TV, bored in class, or whatever.

What do you want? I'm busy.

Program, please!

Chaos.... good news.

After 4 days with less than 10 hours of sleep across, a pair of arm warmers turned into this - sans vest and shoulder pieces, because I can't take them off without help, whoops.

http://i55.tinypic.com/mka40.jpg
Still held up in my hotel room getting the armor and disastrous bum rush boots done, but oh man I will be ready come Sunday. 8|

Also ShadowSpark; if you're looking to buy reflective tape, most automotive stores carry various types of it. And if you opt for the waterproof/car-grade sticker kind, if you're doing a Legacy outfit with large/minimal circuitry details, it should hold up just fine if you're not looking to actually do back-flips off motorcycles in your outfit.

And if you're hoping for something more permanent but want to pass on sewing, there is an iron-on variant of the reflective tape sold as a screen printing novelty - if you google around for metallic/reflective screen printing supplies, you should happen across it sooner or later. I'd give you links, but I don't have them on hand at the moment, hurk.

Best of luck to you!

Wow it looks awesome! Makes the Sark I'm making look like poop. I just drew on the dance belt and vest since I can't sew and I wanted more glowing lines. Is that reflective paint? If so would you recommend using it?
