I'm really torn and conflicted about how to feel about this news. On one hand I'm ecstatic, but on the other hand the fact this footage was shot before the film's release and before the Disney bean counters started getting box office results, I'm not sure this means a sequel is guaranteed. I sure as heck hope it does mean we will get a sequel but I feel like I can't totally celebrate yet.

I think your later statement Oscar is what gives me hope. Logically speaking (and I say this with a wide berth because Hollywood can be highly illogical) if they shot the footage before the movie started making money and then released the knowledge of it existing then they want more positive buzz concerning the franchise. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean a sequel is coming. They could put this on the TRON Legacy DVD and say that this was footage that they omitted because they went in a different direction or they could even say that it was footage that they hoped to use in a sequel that is not going to happen. However I think they intend on giving us that sequel. I think the powers at Disney see this as yet another franchise that can bring them money and if that is the case, they will milk it for all its worth. Sounds mercenary right? Sure, but we fans get something for their avarice, a product that hopefully will be worth every penny they put into it, and plan on getting from us viewers.

I remain positive, although not getting overexcited.I mention in another thread how short sight Disney can be nowadays. They need to make sure they get money now rather than thinking long-term.

Looking at the box office, the result is decent, but of course not going to what Disney expected. The budget is big, they have to consider the budget problem.

Those are factors that led them to resist announcing Tron 3 now. But if they think it clearly, they already have technology now, also they have actors ready, they already have the story set up, also Jeff Bridges and bruce boxleitner may not be able to wait years more. It'll be stupid not to give a go now rather than waiting it to die down.

Even more so when my sister, who works at a Disney store, told me that there is a TRON 3 listed on their release schedule for 2012.
