Well, there's a good reason for it feeling Zimmerish, they thank him, among others, in the liner notes, for his "generosity." I'm guessing he helped with some arrangements.

I'll pipe up that I'm also underimprssed with the score. I never expected it to be a 21st centrury re-tread of Carlos' work (which is among my favorite top 3 scores), and I applaud DP for not trying to do so. However, the type of music they play necessitates repetition, adn that doesn't work well for a score (other than repeating themes throught separate tracks). It's just a 140+ bpm 4/4 pumping bass fest - for the most part. the orchestration feels forced. It plays like avideo game score. Those aren't necessarily bad, but they don't work on the same level as a movie score. Games require interaction, so they can repeat, repeat, repeat until you complete the right activity or encounter the right character, adn then change. You just can't do this with a score.

Overall, I expected better. It's not horrible, but it's not excellent. Feeling "meh" about something creative is worse than hating it though.

That encapsulates my feelings nicely. I don't hate it, I just don't like it. It has no zip for me and I was expecting some.

I'm a die-hard Tron fan since I saw the movie in theatres in 1982. Now I love the Wendy Carlos score for the film too. But I have to strongly disagree with Dave. I am a fan of Daft Punk but I'm not an obssessed hardcore fan of them.

That said, IMO Daft Punk's score is brilliant. It's deep, reverberating, majestic, and rousing. In my view the music sounds like a blend of aspects of Vangelis, Wendy Carlos, and Philip Glass. The music when syncd with the scenes of Tron Legacy that I've seen it enhanced and give the visuals a great vibe and atmosphere. I love the way it mixes Taiko-like drums with violins, brass horns, etc, incorperates those with layered digital rythms and tonal formulations, with touches digital bit crush in some of the tracks, are in my view very well woven to create a audio tapestry that really put's my mind and mood into the realm of "The Grid".

This is one of the best movie scores I've listened to since Lord of Rings, The Matrix, and Tim Burton's Batman. I rate the score/soundtrack a 9.5 out of 10.

anyway, i happen to respect both soundtracks in different ways.

Well, the thing with TRON that made it memorable wasn't just the movie or the soundtrack, but the combination of both together. Everything was just so unique and memorable compared to other movies in that era.

The majority people I have heard saying that TL has an "amazing" soundtrack are pre-TL DP fans. I saw numerous times in the comment sections of the trailer from youtube and other movie sites that the DP fans overall didn't give a damn about TL and said things like "get rid of the dialogue and make it a 2 hour DP music video" and "everyone bring glowsticks to the theater and make it a rave".

Since the soundtrack has been released the box office numbers will tell if the hype was more successful at selling DP or the movie. If the movie does poorly, but the soundtrack sells very well don't be surprised if the TL sequel (if there is one) is turned into a musical and the DP fanboys get their 2 hour music video.

Amen....One thing I think has me kinda down on the DP version is the whole Electronic and Classic music mashup thing. Back in 82' it was not that common if at all to hear Electronic music combined with classical instruments and choirs so Carlos soundtrack was just as pioneering as Tron itself.

What I can appreciate about DP score is that they tried to get a Leitmotiv going that ties the action together with the music. That is part of the repetitiveness but that also can make for a score that captures action so yes, when listened to with the film, I am sure those musics will be alright.abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

After hearing this cd a lot of times, It made me like Daft Punk even more. I loved the way they handled this soundtrack. Everything from the CD (also CD2 and the other 3 tracks) met my expectations. Some of the sounds has a resemblance to the Wendy Carlos soundtrack. The tracks I really dug the most... Solar Sailer, Adagio for Tron, C.L.U(especially at the 1:01 mark) . Thank you DP, for making a great album!

I'm totally happy with the OST, Daft Punk owned it...
I'm just not happy with the American version of the OST
I thought it was lame the American version was missing tracks and the
CD packaging is CARDBOARD. Screw that !!!!
I'm setting out to ordering the U.K. version with the additional tracks
and perhaps better CD packaging.

Having listened to the American version many times, I'd have to say that "End of Line" is the standout track for me. I've very much wanted to hear this in its pure form, ever since they did the Light Cycle debut in 2009. Like a lot of Daft Punk tracks, it's a deceptively catchy piece. The slow, repeating cycles really begin to groove after a few iterations, and by the end of the first 60 seconds I am invariably bobbing my head or tapping my foot in time with the track.

I understand that taste counts, and i am sorry that for some, this soundtrack will not be to their taste. But as an electronic music consumer since the late 80's, I'd like to argue that this soundtrack stands up. No, it's not Wendy Carlos. But just as Legacy is not meant to be a copy of the original Tron, this soundtrack is also not meant to be a copy. It's its own artistic work with its own sound. And hearkened -- for me anyway -- to some of the great symphonic electronica soundtracks by Vangelis. With a little synth-pop discoteque for good measure.

Bravo, Daft Punk! Bravo!

I haven't listened to the soundtrack yet. But, I do like Hans Zimmer and Daft Punk so I'm guessing I'll like this one. I liked BT's work on Stealth. How does it compare? And remember DaveTRON, in here, your not allowed to have a negative opinion about anything Tron Legacy related until you see the movie. order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

Via various contacts and projects I am doing with Disney people, I have seen half to two thirds of the movie I think.. I'll know for sure next Saturday.

That qualifies me to have an opinion early.

Once again, I do not HATE it, I just don't think it's as good as what we were told to expect. I wanted something more vibrant and I don't feel I got it. That's all. Maybe the movie will improve that view, maybe not.

I don't have a problem with your opinion if you weren't pleased with the soundtrack. And that's okay. It probably that you were looking for something closer to Carlos' legacy. However, I think, IMO, watching TRON Legacy with a soundtrack like Carlos' would be akin to playing HALO on XBOX with 8 bit music and sound effects.

I'm hard of hearing so Carlos' work is very respectable in that degree in what she achieved and I'm sure Daft Punk's first time on the film project is a commendable effort.

Does anyone read what I say? It has nothing to do with the Wendy Carlos soundtrack at all. Didn't even consider it when listening to DPs soundtrack.

The thing I feel is missing from the music is the joy and power DP bring to their music in general. Once I discovered them I could feel this passion in what they produced. I liked the feelings it gave me. This music does not do that for me.

I wish people would stop over analysing what I say. I just don't feel it, that's all.

Glad others do.

Nothing more to see here, move along.

Love this soundtrack. I've been listening to it for a few weeks, but today I got the iTunes version. The bonus tracks are nice. Father & Son is basically a more tender version of the theme in the overture and used elsewhere. But the REALLY exciting track is Outlands Part 2. It starts off sounding similar to other parts of the theme but about a minute in it becomes this really cool throbbing soundscape.

Can't wait to hear the tracks from the UK deluxe version. I haven't gotten a physical copy yet because I'm kind of hoping they might release a complete score eventually.

In the End of Line Club one, it sounds like I hear some sound fx from Dr. Mario.

I take it back. I think "End of Line" is tied with "Disc Wars" for my favorite. Both tracks make me have goosebumps, they are so evocative. Especially "Disc Wars" which is a bit reminiscent of Iron Man's soundtrack, when Tony is building his suit? Anyway, great soundtrack!
