Or........
Wait for it........
We can just wait until the movie comes out and find out the answers than. I mean come on guys, I'm all for the ARG and having fun with it, but maybe all that jazz on the monitor was not meant to be broken down and deciphered, maybe just added stuff for that scene. Just saying.....

Well I do know under the linux environment for sire since it is based on Unix environment for the commande line which is it's base and the gui interface as being the second on top of the commande ling It will come up as for two users itself. The reason that I know this and I can give you this as an example of this under my linux box itself. It is directly off of my linux box itself here.

So a single user can have 2 users online. It just makes oneunder the command line and the other as in the gui interface.

In this most recent trailer (and also the previous teaser trailer) when Sam enters Kevin's workshop in the arcade and finds the mainframe, he wipes away the dust, and the uptime counter goes away, and we see a shot of the screen of active command windows.
After studying the onscreen data in that shot, I noticed something peculiar. It's kind of hard to make out, but it shows TWO USERS logged in to the mainframe server.
I took a screenshot and highlighted the area I'm talking about. I hope it displays correctly below:
TWO users? Hmm...
This is a STANDALONE server, so wouldn't that mean that a second user would have to be physically logged in there in the workshop?
I thought Kevin was the only person who knew about it? (I'm assuming he was the only one, but I could be wrong on that.)
So the big question is WHO IS THE SECOND USER??
Is this second user preventing Kevin's escape?
This could be nothing, and I may be making more out of this than there really is, but I find it interesting to think of this as a possible clue to what really happened to Kevin Flynn. I guess we'll all find out in December.
But in the meantime, does anyone else have any thoughts or theories on this? I'd like to hear other people's take on this. |

Anyways... The two users thing could just very well, be something to fill the screen when same wipes the dust. Just something else I thought of (after also reading other comments) since it is based off an old OS (DOS maybe?) from the 80's. Disney may have also over looked that aspect in the movie. As well as the "Up 8 days". That 8 days could have been when that computer, thinking of it as a prop, was finished being built.
But, if it's refrenced to in the movie, I'll still hold on to the idea that the "up 8 days" was for someone trying to contact the outside, and even though it was made in the 80's, and the technology may be outdated, but what if that was more reliable then today's technology? I'd rather still have some of the analog mediums then the digital mediums we have today.
And as the two users, one being Flynn and the other Alan, I can't see Alan being a bad guy. He raised Sam and in one of the ARG movies, with ING, he stated that he loved Sam (like a son). So I really don't see him trying to take advantage of this. True, he was jealous of Flynn for being with Lora, yet in the end, they all became great friends and Alan still married Lora (considering the ARG part where Cindy made an appearance). So the two users either have to be Flynn and Clu, or as Compucore stated, that it was the computer setting itself up the comand line, and the gui inteface.
And sorry if that seems a bit like a rant... ^^; I had given this a bit more thought and wanted to tell and that's just how it came out... ^^;

neomanga, that's a good point. I never thought of the screens as just being props. They could very well mean nothing at all. I guess I'm always looking for things that "mean" something since Kosinski said they hid all these "easter egg" type things throughout the film. The screen shots are, from what I can tell, definitely modeled after a circa-1989 version of Solaris, which is a Unix-based operating system. And as you said, the 8 days could very well be the uptime of the underlying "prop" computer.
But, if it's refrenced to in the movie, I'll still hold on to the idea that the "up 8 days" was for someone trying to contact the outside, and even though it was made in the 80's, and the technology may be outdated, but what if that was more reliable then today's technology? I'm definitely with you on this one. I hope that it's referenced in the movie just so we can say we figured it out beforehand! LOL! And as for outdated but reliable technology, I wish I still had some of my "old" technology just to play around with. It isn't fast by today's standards, but it sure was reliable! I can't say that about a lot of the "new technology" today. LOL! And to quote Dumont, "Yes, I'm old....old enough to remember when the MCP was just a chess program. He started small and he'll end small!" LOL!
And as the two users, one being Flynn and the other Alan, I can't see Alan being a bad guy. He raised Sam and in one of the ARG movies, with ING, he stated that he loved Sam (like a son). I don't see Alan being a bad guy either. But you never know. The, "Wouldn't that be something?" comment just came across weird to me, as if he knows more than he's letting on. And of course, the writers (from the show "Lost") are known for writing in very unexpected twists and turns, and keeping the viewer guessing. I think the two users are either as Compucore pointed out, the command line and GUI, or Kevin having two instances of his login, or another mystery user that we don't know about yet (but we'll find out about in the movie!), or the Disney props department just messed up! LOL!
And sorry if that seems a bit like a rant... ^^; I had given this a bit more thought and wanted to tell and that's just how it came out... ^^; |
LOL! No, it's great! That's what I wanted...other people's opinions! I know I feel a little crazy sometimes analyzing stuff like this ad nauseam, but I can't help it...welcome to the world of A.D.D., LOL!

THINK about it.

(Too big of an item to quote )
I didn't see where Kosinski said something about easter eggs, so that puts a spin on some things now. and I knew it was an old computer, but, I wasn't sure how "new" of a model it was compared to the new film. (And honestly, if they made coputers like that today, I would love to get one.)
Would be fun to say we figured out the "Up 8 days" before mentioned in the movie. Analog can still kick digital's butt in quite a bit of cases. And it is fun to use, and is reliable. Dumont may be old, but can still kick it!
True. "Wouldn't that be something", the way it was brought out, seems to have a deeper tone to it then being just casual. And if the writers put in many twists and turns, I just hope it's not tiny details that can easily be looked over to lead to big plot turns later on. And true, one can only wonder about it being kevin double logging, mystery user, compy's load up sequence, unknown plot, or just a Disney goof.
And I'm glad this is what you wanted. ^^ And don't worry! It's ok to analyze this type of stuff, it helps make it fun! Plus, I've got ADD too! And aspergers... kinda goes hand in hand sometimes. o0
And I'm sure you, and all of us, will enjoy it for what it is... A TRON SEQUEL! |

Could be as well from a linux or a unix environment as well. I had posted an image reference as well coming from my linux box as well. It is basically means that a single like you or myself who logs into a linux box or a unix box will come up twice. and up for 8 days is how long the systm has been running continuously. Or may have been in before it went into hibernation. Take a look at the link I had brovided a actual screen capture of an exmaple from mine.

Pilgrim1099, that was a good interview! Thanks for posting it! And it gave a little more insight into Kastor and his motivations. I'm definitely not ruling anyone out in this film. Kastor does throw a kink into the story line because it's almost like he's on the side of whoever can benefit him the most, so that adds yet another layer of mystery and uncertainty.
Compucore, I saw your screenshot, and I see what you're talking about. It definitely could be a single user that shows up twice. And I hadn't thought about the "hibernation" aspect of it. That would explain the 8 days AND the 20 years. Nice background by the way!

This wouldn't be an Easter Egg. An Easter Egg is a hidden surprise that doesn't add anything of substance, it's just a treat. The fact is I think this whole "2 users online" thing is absolutely meaningless, I think all that stuff is just randomly generated text so they'd have something to fill up the monitor. It's a common cinematic technique for computers, the video equivalent of "Lorem Ipsum".order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill The Clu abides, man...

That is defiantly not randomly generated text. So far, most of what has been featured like this in the trailers have meant something.
I guess we will have to wait until December 17 to find out.

They do seem to be paying close attention to detail. With the Flynn lives campaign they are definitely trying to encourage fans to look for clues anyway they can. I'm sure everything is intentional. Lost had lots of clues. They know the fans will be watching every detail closely. Not to mention that the original Tron had a lot of computer terms in it that the average person didn't get. I think as we watch the movie a lot of these clues will fall into place. Yeah when someone mentioned that there are two users on the screen from the screen shot. That would be the only thing that I can think of especially under the Linux and Unix environment over here. Well I know for sure if I wanted to over here. Which I haven't yet on my Linux machine. could do it if I wanted to do so over here. But didn't cause of stuff like always. Your welcome about that. Figure could put them to good use some where. Have them on at least three machines here. The one thing I always like to do is to just give little updates here and there on things like this from the Linux side since the average use may not know about the Linux side. (Thinking for the moment of Star wars of both the force. sounded like it though.)
