Hey DangerIMMN! Welcome! Good to see ya here at the Sector! I agree about the Sirens. It's interesting how they move in tandem, and almost march up to Sam. They have almost robotic-like movements. I think it adds to the whole, "you're not in Kansas anymore," feel to the scene.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

Good to be here. There are some awesome resources here! (Not the least of which was the link to the 7 1/2 mins of footage. I paid to get my butt down there and waited in line for 2 1/2 hours and STILL didn't get in - this is freakin JUSTICE to finally see it)
By the way HooDoo - the Tron costumes thread is still going on the RPF! I'm waiting to see if I hear back from someone at Quantum Creation FX about the Tron costumes (they made em).
I must admit though, I am beginning to reach a point where I'm not sure I want to know much more about the story!

I think that if the halfs of Sam's regular clothes weren't deleted and merely sucked into a kind of "storage bin"; then when he's re-formed in the "real world" he'd be clothed, but maybe his clothes might still cut down the middle symetrically.

Is it like the transporter beam's buffer in Star Trek, where the full code is stored upon breaking the person/object down, but allowing for the changes to the code where the person's brain is concerned, so memories of experiences and knowledge are retained?

The 8 minutes of footage does look cool. For all you naysayers out there who are skeptical, remember one thing. This film is for US, not the average joe going to the theater on the weekend.
I do remember back in 2000-01 hints of a sequal, and we were all excited. And now it is here. For all of those people saying, 'it doesn't look the same', 'oh, no, he has clothes on?' 'what is with the rain' 'face don't look real'
Look at the depths Disney has gone to make this movie for us.
#1 We have Jeff Bridges
#2 We have Bruce
#3 We have light cycles and recognizers
#4 We have groundbreaking technology, again...
They are just as excited as all of us, with the above mentioned, the budget, the cool as hell ARG, this will be good.
Have faith all you Tronners out there, the time has come, it is here.
Now sit back, relax, and let the juices drip from your mouth.

True, but it also seems as though in this cyberworld the only currency is energy, so giving programs a rest cycle to preserve it is a wise move. Hence the active and inactive states of the Sirens.

True, True, True c1 - and let's also not forget how Lisberger, the original (or one of the original) creators of Tron is closely involved with this.
You know, whenever I wonder about the look of Tron Legacy, the more I refer back to the preliminary sketches on the 20th Anniversary DVD special features - and you know what? They actually match what Lisberger actually wanted the first time around but was unable to do, due to technological limitations at the time. I also heard that the way Sam enters the virtual world was also how Flynn was supposed to enter in the first TRON film. All I know is this. . .I'm already putting down installments on my pre-order of TRON Evolution for PS3 and I'll be one of the first people in line on the night of Friday, Dec 17th to see TRON LEGACY and I'm excited!!!!! I also have some faith as again, Lisberger is involved, and they seem to be taking their time (especially working with PIXAR and Fincher to improve the story) - I'm sure the film will be done well. IsoLine Wrote:ShadowDragon1 Wrote:IMO that is a really kind of silly of thing to complain or be
upset about.
The cyberspace realm of Tron Legacy world does *not* take place inside the 1982 computer mainframe under absolute control of the MCP anymore.
This is Flynn's own computer system, HIS cyberspace world he designed and tailor made... he made the rules of this new world. Clu took over and bent those rules and maybe even added/altered some. "The Game has changed" and so has The Grid.
Flynn wanted a human/User to retain their clothes after after being digitized. It doesn't really make much if any difference to the overall story IMO.
He's a stranger in a strangeland, but to the Program's he's just another stray Program without an Identity Disc, his regular clothes don't mean anything, it's superfluous.
IMO It doesn't matter he's in a black leather jacket and jeans i.e. regular clothes for all of 4-5 minutes.
I for one think the sequence with the Sirens was very very cool. It pays homage to the formation of Tron sequence and Sark's speech to the "new recruits". |
I think the Siren sequence is also cool but more over important to the function of how we see this new world. In the original movie, everything just "happened" what ever logic may have been intended was never fully explained and that could be because the MCP and Sark controlled the domain. Now we have a new regime. A world where a warrior doesn't just get teleported to some sterile but cool game grid for a deathmach but instead walks to the arena and becomes grouped in with the other combatants before the duel. This is the redefition of the first movie's "Spartacus" sentimentality many alluded to back in 82'. It becomes a "carry your shield or come home on it" moment. One that is punctuated when Siren Gem answers Sam's question with a one word answer "Survive". I don't know a whole lot about the adult Sam but he seems a bit reckless and prone to acts of daredevilism (from the few shots we see of him on his father's cycle). He is caught between a world fraught with danger that gives him an adrenaline rush and the memory of his father that suddenly disappeared and the associated longing for said father. His being propelled into the world of TRON and the game grid is going to force him to grow up a little bit more. |
IsoLine,
I like your explanation very much and it very well may be one of the most spot-on and logical explanations of this film. To me, when I saw that footage, basically the Sirens, though they are not aligned with Clu and his forces (or are they, since they work for Castor?) are fulfilling some of the functions that Sark and his Red Guards did in the first film, to some extent.
I, too, think that Sam Flynn may have become reckless as a young man, and in some ways is carefree and fearless like his Dad, Kevin was, in the first TRON film. Once that Sam realizes what he's up against, he'll have to grow up pretty fast, as his life inside the server depends on it. I do like how Lisberger is involved. I liked the extras on the DVD with him talking, seems reallly smart.
Looking at imdb to see what he has done recently and their is a large void between 1989-Tron Legacy. Maybe he got sucked in the Tron world during this time. What was he doing?order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Other than this, there's not any public info on what else Steve Lisberger may have worked on over the years.
Some creative types can be very private and be pretty reclusive people.
But it's nice to see him out and about and involved with Tron Legacy.
It's sort of like Merlin or Rip Van Wrinkle himself disappeared and then came back, for a little while at least. But I do think he's a very very smart man.

Steven's directorial efforts are not many, which is kind of a shame. He only directed two other movies after Tron: "Hot Pursuit" and "Slipstream".
I never seen Hot Pursuit, but it's basically a John Cusack teeny comedy from 1987, so that pretty much explains the plot right there. I wonder why he directed it, to be honest.
Lisberger's last film, "Slipstream" (which I've seen about half of it) is a somewhat low budget dystopian film that stars Mark Hamill, Bill Paxton and Bob Peck. Gary Kurtz, who produced and directed the second unit on Star Wars, produced this movie as well. Unfortunately the movie didn't do so well. It was a direct-to-video release in the US, did poorly in theaters in England and actually bankrupted Kurtz, who shortly lost a divorce case around the movie's production. Due to that court ruling, Slipstream somehow got released into the public domain, so you can easily find the movie online.
After these movies, I think Steven started focusing back on Tron. I do know that since around the late 90s, Lisberger has been literally fighting Disney to get the movie made and I'm so, so glad his efforts weren't in vain.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Well DT, I can't allay your fears but do realize the interview is just one individuals POV of the film. What he feels is the crux of the scenes expressed are purely his own feelings. Personally I think he makes some good points and can accept the concepts he presents, but it is not the end all be all of the story of TRON legacy. |
I don't think anything he said is going to keep me from seeing the movie. There were several things I didn't like is all. And lets just say I'm not a big Joseph Campbell fan. I don't want to get into another debate. That's why I was vague. I don't think any of the criticism expressed in the forums is meant to be a call for a boycott. Or that we won't enjoy the movie. Just some of us are not liking some of the things SO FAR. There might be plenty in the film that makes up for the parts we don't like.
Again, not a judgment on the overall film. Jet Lives! |

Not to sure about that. From what I read on the Disney site the color of the glowing accents on your outfit designates you as one of four different factions. And there is also a brief mention that the only currency in the cyberworld is energy so I have a feeling that Clu who has been revealed to be somewhat in control may have a strict energy consumption regime in place. Much like when there is a drought in a particular state and the local government institutes water conservation measures. Perhaps it is even more dire and there is a rationing program. order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online "Word to the Motherboard!" - IsoLine |

Joseph Cambell's academic expertise in comparitive mythology, symbolism in mythological literature, etc; overall his work is vast, and so his work, and his books are pretty highly regarded and respected.
What is it about Cambell lead you to "not be a fan"?
The concepts and subjects he covers in his works are very compelling, hold great gravity and great merit and validity in the views of many in the academic & scholarly field.
Where you maybe meaning to say "not a fan of Joseph Kosinski" ? *scratches head*

No. I was referring to Campbell. But that can be a whole other discussion. And I don't put much faith in the academic & scholarly. They tend to surround them selves with only like thinking minds. This is a discussion that I've been in plenty of times before and don't want to go into another one again. It takes up too much time, and usually both sides never come into agreement.
But there were other statements in the article that had me concerned. But I'll wait until I see the movie to see if it works as well as this producer is claiming. While I think this movie is going to be great and visually amazing. I think it might end up being a little too different from the original Tron. Just my personal take so far. But will not hinder me from enjoying the film.
