I really think that they should go for a perfect balance between realism and the trademark abstract look. This was very evident in the trailer and I hope they keep that.

Also, anyone notice that the clouds have gridlines in them in the trailer and in that concept art, in a way that is similar to the original film?

I believe that Kosinski has a sense of proportion. (c)Kosinski: Yeah, I think fans of the original film there’s going to be a lot in there for them to discover. It’s a movie that even if you haven’t seen the original ‘Tron’ you’ll be able to sit down, watch this, and get totally wrapped up in the world. But, if you are a hard core fan, there are a lot of things hidden in the film that you’ll enjoy. Our crew worked very hard to make sure that everything kind of lined up perfectly with the ‘Tron’ legacy.

That's one of the things I'm most worried about. The whole "If you haven't seen the original, you can still understand this". I can see why they're doing this, and it's to get a larger audience, and I suppose that kinda makes "TRON Legacy" work better than "TR2N" by default, but it just kind of feels like they're pushing the real fans aside to make room for the larger "new audience" that they really want to drag in with this film. But the sad truth is, if they didn't do that, there'd be a very small audience and the people who hadn't seen and understood the original wouldn't understand this. I believe the main issue with the original was that most people saw it as "Hey, this looks really cool", but they don't understand the storyline because it's executed throughout the movie in a terrible fashion. The main idea behind the writing of the sequel so far just seems to be "Hey, this looks really cool", and nothing else.

At the Tron Legacy Panel in Hall H, Director Joseph Kosinski said they are going for a photo-real and a photo SURREAL look.

It seems like Joe is having Daniel Simons go for blending Photo surrealism with realism to blend some surreal elements into the design of the vehicles and enviroments in the movie.

I think the test footage (in some aspects), and what little concept art they've shown sort of seems to be going in that direction to me.

I'm sure Steve Lisberger will push for them to not go too "realistic" with the world of Tron Legacy.

Here's my thoughts on TL...

I think that with me, I'm getting use to this new world of Tron beforehand through the production concept and the still images from comic con 09. Will help for me to enjoy the movie without saying something like, "This isn't the TRON that I remember." However, I'm still wondering where the glowing circuits went to on the character's outfits. It looks more like racing bike suits than anything, but that's just my two cents.

I really wished they'd not modify the Recognizers as much as they have. I do like the new concept but I'd rather them do just a small amount of updating than the extreme that they have... but I can't really judge by one movie still so I'll have to see the movie first.
