I was somewhat curious about the new Knight Rider TV show (or miniseries or whatever it is) when I first heard about it. I mean, they went for a continuation, rather than a recreation or reimagining of it, so it sounded promising.

When I first saw the new "KITT"... well, let's just say any excitement I had about the new show pretty much went out the window. I really didn't care for the new muscle car body of KITT. KITT was always about packing a powerful punch in a sleek, elegant, and cool package. One of the things I always loved about KITT was the fact that he (it?) was not anything huge or intimidating, but putting KITT up against pretty much anything else - KITT would always kick-butt in very cool ways.

Now KITT is a bigger, tougher looking, not so elegant, not so sleek car. Somehow that just doesn't feel like Knight Rider.

The trailer didn't do much for me because I already know what lies under the cloth covering and I'm not impressed with it.

I'll probably check out the show to see if they can pull it off or not. Hell, I watched several episodes of the amazingly awful new Bionic Shaky Cam... er, Bionic Woman, before I ditched it. As long as the new Knight Rider doesn't employ a stupid shaky cam style of presentation, I'll probably watch at least the first installment of it.

I just really wasn't that big of a fan of 'Night Rider' other than the fact that I loved the car. However, I think that an updated Night Rider could sell well if they do it right. I'm interested to see what they do with this.

I'm excited. It's hard to see the changed car style and the KITT voice that doesn't quite match, though... and KITT saying Mike instead of Michael... but maybe it will all work out. Is this going to be a movie, or a TV series, or both? I thought there was gonna be a movie, but the NBC logo at the bottom of the advertisement and just the 'feel' of the ad, in general, makes it seem like an upcoming TV series.

They do need to match KITT's voice better to the old version. That's what bothered me about KH2. I never played the game, but from the videos I saw, the MCP's voice was nothing like the movie's MCP voice... and it just ruins it for me. Looks like KITT will be close to the '80s voice, but not quite...

I know that it isn't certain whether or not GM is going to make a new Firebird off of the new Camaro platform. However, if GM was to do so and the producers could've waited, then the new K.I.T.T. might've looked something like this:

Man, I always did love those bowling ball hub caps. IMO this is far more sinister-looking than the Mustang, and maybe even a little more so than the Corvette. Plus, it'd have four seats like the original K.I.T.T. had.

The Corvette ZR1 should of been used, it's body shape looks more KITT like. I'm sure they made some deal to use the Mustang though. The Camaro conversion looks VERY slick. Yeah, they missed a chance there too.

I'm interested in seeing what the show will be like. All I know is KITT better have some nice moves and gadgets after switching to a Mustang.

Ford paid a lot of money to NBC for them to use the Mustang. Ford is kind of annoyed about how GM was so successful in making their products high-visibility by having some of them feature prominently in The Transformers over this past summer. Ford felt they had to do something, so they really fought for Knight Rider.

Still, a Mustang just doesn't look the part. I don't care how many body kit pieces they slap on, a Mustang just doesn't look the part. The bottom line in my book is that the car isn't at all sleek in any of its modes, especially in the 'combat mode' with all of those tacked-on body kit parts.

And I agree about getting rid of the Cobra emblems. It's supposed to be a product of Knight Industries, right? Yeah, I've never been a fan of the Ford "design language" either.

Ford has created some really good-looking concept cars, and a few really nice production cars (e.g. the GT-40 and it's evolution, the Ford GT; late 1960's Lincoln Continental; late 1960's/early 1970's Torino) but for the most part their cars just don't do anything for me.

GM has had and still has many, many more designs, both concept and production, that I pine over. Now that design is again more important than bean-counting for the first time in decades at GM, I anticipate more great designs (e.g. the new CTS; the Solstice/Sky; the G8 ) from them.

Chrysler has also had plenty of beauties, but lately not so much. The new Challenger looks set to change that though. The four door Charger is total crap but the two door Challenger is wicked. I hope they show it at the NYIAS this year, because I'm going again and I'd love to get a good look at it.

AMC had some cool cars, too. For example, the Javelin, AMX, AMX II, AMX/2, AMX/3, and AMX/GT.

Seeing the new, cool looking fan made KITT mock-up only makes me hate the "official" new KITT that much more. I don't give a crap about Ford vs. GM. For me, it's all about what looks good, period. I'm not a fan of the Mustang. I've just never thought they looked cool - not my taste.

As much as I hate KITT's new design, I'm reminded of how incredibly AWFUL the "Knight Rider 2000" TV movie was back in the early 90's (was it 1990?). I was in my early 20's then and much more forgiving when it came to really bad redesigns and just bad TV. This show was total crap - from the stupid sound of the cop sirens to the idiot sonic guns the future police used, to Devin Miles getting killed off, and mainly - a RED KITT? WTF? Helloooooo! Knight Rider is a play on the word "night", as in dark and - what's that color... oh yeah - BLACK! Frickin' red car. Oh how I hated that TV movie to the core. Whole thing sucked ass. I picked up on the fact that they were testing the water for a new Knight Rider show featuring a young woman in the Hoff's place in the stupid red KITT. Thank GOD pretty much everyone hated the damn thing!

I didn't know that the same people from the hideous recreation of The Bionic Shaky Cam were involved in this. That's probably a good thing though. They'll make it suck really bad and people won't like it and then we won't have to suffer the sucky-ass new KITT on TV for long.

I'm still planning on watching at least the first installment of this show... so long as they DON'T use the stupid shaky-cam crap. If I see shaky cam ala Bionic Woman - I'm done, right then and there. I don't mean if they use it during a chase scene or fight or something - I mean if they use it as the style (more like lack of style) of show presentation.

I hate to say this - but don't be certain that the show will tank. It is conceivable that a new audience, one not familiar with the original Knight Rider series, may find this new show to be just what they're looking for. If the KITT redesign is nothing more than the only KITT they've ever known - it might not look stupid or out of place to them. They might even find the original KITT funny looking after getting used to the new one before ever seeing the original.

I'm not familiar with the voice of Optimus Prime because I didn't watch much of the 80's cartoon series (though have memory of some of it) and never saw the film. To me, the voice sounded like an impersonation of the original KITT voice run through some digital filters. As for "Mike" rather than "Michael"... well, that's just another obvious departure from the original KITT and will probably be explained as an AI enhancement over the original. Personally, I think this and the other AI "enhancements" will be almost as much of a turn-off as the new look of KITT.
