(1) A heavily damaged tank turret (I'm planning a awesome destruction scene. )

(2) A low-poly MCP model (I just need that "gray shell-armor" part surrounding the red beam modeled) for the very end of the movie.

(3) Maybe a low-poly Sark's Carrier for shots when it's far away.

Well.... well... Too bad! I'm already almost DONE with the city! LOL... (Told ya I figured out a faster way... Heh)

LOL! I'll take it, I'll take it!

Which ever one is easier for you.

Sark's Carrier... I was actually thinkin about doing that just as a pet project... So this gives me an excuse.. (Not to mention, having something on screen when I film my BTS clip... lol)

I'm on the job!

Thanks, Chikan, I knew I can count on you!

Well, it's 1:10 AM, shot 01_03 JUST FINISHED RENDERING.... that last stupid frame took 10 MINUTES!!! But it sure does look nice! I'll upload it tomorrow.

Man you guys are awesome! I was gone for Christmas and you've finished all of this?!? I can't wait to see it when it comes out. If there's any way I can help, just let me know.

EDIT: I downloaded blender and I am going through the Noob To Pro Manual. Man, the interface on this program is amazing! I wish all of my programs were this well designed!

Welcome to the world of Open-Source, my friend! Now if only we could get some of the big commercial software companies to do this kinda stuff, eh?

Sinistar: MCP and city have been sent. Work on the tank & carrier are now commencing. I included details in the email, so I won't post them here.

Curious though, how MUCH damage did you want this tank to have? You mentioned "heavily", but does that mean this tank needs to be totally screwed up? Like, unable to drive anymore, turret broken, etc?

EDIT:
Thought I'd give you guys a slight taste to whet your appetites...

And yet another update...

I'm not quite sold on the red glow yet... This new method I'm using put some edges in where there aren't supposed to be any... So I MAY end up going through and doing it the old, monotonous way...

Although, you said you only needed a low-poly one for distance shots, so I guess it would probably work as is...

I'll let you decide... Good as it is, or should I re-do the glows?

Chikan, that is an absolutely great job! No need to redo the lines; I don't think anyone is going to notice any imperfections, in any! Man, that model is so good looking, I have to do some close up shots of that baby.

I also downloaded the MCP and city models; EXCEPTIONAL JOB!

@NoExcuses
How is your HDD holding up? I just realize that all of my video and audio that I've done for the movie so far is 7 GB. Fortunately, I have a 250 GB External HDD, but I want to make sure that you have enough space.

BTW, here's the shot that I will forever know as the "Pain-in-the-butt" shot , 01_03!

I think you guys will like this shot a lot!

Ok then... I'll shoot the carrier over to ya in an email...

Between finishing the city, and doing the MCP & carrier, I've been blending for the past 8 hours or so... I think I'll save the battle-damaged tank for another day.. LOL

Thanks, Chikan. Yeah, I don't need the tank for while from now, so take your time. Be sure to get your eyes a rest after all that blending!

Wow!

Sorry I don't post here often, but I do poke around this thread from time to time to check out the COOL frickin' SWEET TRON imagery, videos, and audio you guys have been working on.

Every time I see another piece of the puzzle, I sit here grinning ear to ear. VERY cool stuff happening here. I'm so glad to see this thread grow and grow with creative excitement and energy!

One thing that always bothers me though. My old, slow computer can't play the video clips very well because their bit rate is several megabytes per second more than what my computer can handle. It sounds like my hard drive is going to die each time I play a video - you can actually hear it chugging along trying to keep up with the video data. The videos play very choppy because of this as well.

I think I may have mentioned something about this before, but isn't there some kind of video compression method that you can use that won't hinder image quality much AND allows slower computers to play them?

Even digital video (DV) only plays back at bit rate of 3.6MB a second, and I've always thought that was a bit on the high end.

Well, compression or not - the imagery and videos look sweet! I'm looking forward to seeing this thing all stitched together!

Hey, Todd! Always great to hear from the master!

I have to admit that my computer is slow too and I can't play back the clip without the video skipping most of the time.

I'll make a compressed clip with all of the footage that we made so far and so you guys with the slower computers (or people with very small hard drives ) can watch our stuff.

Here you go!

Todd:

I think this was touched on a few pages back, but a big reason they're so high-quality/large-sized right now, is it's best not to lower the quality or do any compression until the final cut is made... The more you compress, cut, re-compress, etc. the worse the quality gets as you go... So I think our general plan was to keep the quality as high as possible until the final thing is done, then we can release multiple versions of different quality...

So don't fret! The day will come soon! LOL

Speaking of, hey Sinistar... Have you come up with a finished script/storyboard so we have an idea how many shots there will be total?

Unfortunately, I haven't finished most of the storyboard. But, I did finished a couple of pages, but the drawings really suck. I'll scan them for you and NoExcuses though. Thank you for reminding me though, because I'm should be doing some more storyboards. Expect those scanned storybaords in a couple of minutes!

I was wondering that just after my posting. It would make sense to render full-frames if these were the actual files to be edited together. I often render frames as TIF files, using LZW compression. These frames will not loose quality and are a lot smaller (all together) than full, uncompressed video files. I import the frames as animations in to my editor and work with them like that. I've literally got hundreds of thousands of TIF files on my hard drives as a result. We've all got our methods though. order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Thanks, but I'm not exactly a master. I'm just insane enough to spend hours and days and weeks and months on some projects, until I either get it right, or have to throw in the towel because it didn't work out. Most of my projects (not including QuickVids) never get completed and never get shown to people because they didn't work out.

That would have been the same story for this movie if it wasn't for the great community and admins of TRON-Sector and with NoExcuses and Chikan.

"Old & Busted" Tank has been sent.. LOL

EDIT:

On a side note, I got bored... I decided to render out my rendition of Andy Probert's original concept drawings for the tank... The body is all his design (or as close as I could get to it based on the drawings) and the turret is a mix of a couple of his different ones, with my own flavor thrown in... LOL

One thing I DID discover, is this new method for doing the glowing edges CAN be refined.. Which means I can go back to Sark's Carrier, and I SHOULD be able to remove the edges that weren't supposed to be there... Make it look just that much cleaner..

But without further ado, what do you guys think?

Whew - I go away to a LAN party for two days and come back to face a flurry of posts!

Chikan:

Excellent carrier! The glow looks fine, but if you want to refine it, sure. Can I ask - I occasionally use Blender, and I made a Recognizer in it a while back, but never got around to glowing the edges. What is the new method you're using?

I've never seen the original tank concept art, but I like the model!

Mr. Sinistar:

My hard disk is doing fine - just 2.6GB for the TronOS folder. 01_02 and 01_03 are both great shots - I've been doing some cutting and transitioning and fiddling with audio levels on the project and it's really starting to come together on my end. It's looking really good! And don't worry - I'm not going to go George Lucas on you and fit in as many cheesy transitions as possible.

I never got that PM you sent me - what was in it?

Todd:

Nice of you to drop in! Sinistar and Chikan have been doing a great job, haven't they? I feel like I'm not doing enough!

Sorry that you can't see the clips too well on your PC, but I hope Mr. Sinistar's rough cut has given you some idea of what to expect.

Certainly! Glad to be of service!

My new method, (much better than hand-creating glowing tubes along each edge), is to create the object first, be it the body of the tank, head of a recognizer, whatever. Once the object is finished, I go out to "Object Mode", and create a duplicate of it, in the EXACT SAME SPOT as the original. I give the first one, whatever texture it needs, like the dark blue/grey, then give the copy the bright red glow. I then parent the glowing one to the original, so it stays with it.
And finally, the last step is on the "Materials" panel, towards the lefthand side, right above where you choose the color, is a button that says "Wire." Click that one while you've got the glowing layer highlighted, and viola! When you render, the glowing one will only show up as a wireframe around the edges of the original!

The latest thing I discovered, working on that new tank, is that I can actually go into "Edit Mode" on the glowing object, and delete faces/edges as necessary if lines show up that shouldn't be there. So that's the 'refining' I may end up going back to do with the carrier.

Hopefully that isn't too confusing. LOL Anyhow, I've gotta run out of town for a couple hours, and then I'm off to bed... Graveyard shift sucks! LOL
