Chikan Wrote:Hmm... Okay then... Do you think it would work if I just created a couple little like 1-2 second clips, and you just put those in at the beginning of each video? Like, have a lightcycle coming straight at the screen or something, and have it play that at the beginning of each BTS clip? There would be a load-delay of course, but it would give a similar look.

Hey Chikan,

If you want, I can email my lightcycle model to you or you can use your own model.

Hmm.. I'll probably just use mine... Mine is missing a few details, I've noticed, on the sides.. (I'll fix that one of these days.. lol) But if it's coming right at the camera nobody's going to notice. LOL

In fact, I may even use that sleek, newer, black lightcycle model I have... Another little egg for those 'in the know'

I just had an idea for another egg - I could try and stop-frame animate my Medicom Kubrick figures doing something or other... I've tried it before - they're fairly posable, but they're a bastard to do a walk cycle with. So I might just have them gliding around, dancing, or just doing something odd. I'll try something over the weekend.

That sounds neat! My ex-friend and I used to make LEGO movies but we never finished them.

BTW, I'll get that commentary image uploaded any minute now. Stay tuned!!!

It's an annoying game. When I used to make claymations, I'd spend a long time on the models; not making them really detailed, but making them so that they could stand up and move without falling too much, with proper armatures and stuff. However, as soon as I'd begin to animate, the models would topple over, or a member of my family would come in and interrupt or knock something over, at which point I'd give up and put the model in a big box of ol' plasticine to fester and gather dust. And dust is hard to get off of clay

Hopefully, the Kubrick figures won't be too tricky to animate. The joints are pretty stiff, but a bit of petroleum jelly should soon see to that.

Great commentary image! Now it matches the main menu image, and everything is all happy and uniform.

Putting it in place in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...

Image in place!

I have videos of me, 7 or 8 years old, trying to animate a movie with my mom and dad's old VHS camera. Mind you, there was no animation or stop-motion button so the animation was extremely crappy. I remember one time I was trying to animate a clay figure of Wallace (from Wallace & Gromit) and I was doing so good with the animation and suddenly, he fell over; I yelled in frustration and when I played the tape of my animation, I realized I didn't stop recording when Wallce fell and I recorded myself screaming at the clay figure!

WE MUST SEE THESE VIDEOS!

Me and my brother managed to break the family camcorder by 'animating' that way (pressing the Rec/Stop button twice in quick succession ).

Now where was I... oh yes! WE MUST SEE THESE VIDEOS, NOOOOW!

I concur! We want vids! LOL

Sad thing, isn't it? Here I am, what, 10 years older than you guys? And I used to do the SAME THING... I don't think I ever BROKE my family's camcorder, but I remember tryin to do stop-motion claymation stuff with the old Rec/Stop method... LOL That was back when those X-mas specials with the california grapes carolling were popular on TV... LOL (Showing my age here) For the life of me now though, I can't remember WHAT it was I tried filming... I seem to remember it having something to do with my G.I.Joe figures, but I can't remember for sure now...

Oh, and I've got 2 clips done here... One is the regular lightcycle, the other is the sleek black one. Both come flying at the camera, clips are 1.5 seconds long. Should be good for putting on the front of our commentary clips or something, to give that 'animated menu' effect..

I'm watching my old tapes right now. Man, I haven't seen these in years. I've must have been high when I made this crap. LOL.

I was really, really big into the Aardman thing when I made these tapes and I did everything from Wallace & Gromit, to "Morph" (and even "Rex the Runt"! ). I tried to imitate a British accent, and of course with my 8 year old high pitch voice, I end up sounding like a British SpongeBob.

BTW, I found a "Morph" segment that I did that I might upload on YouTube.

Great minds think alike, I suppose, huh, guys?

LOL! Hey no fair, you gotta show us too!

Out of curiosity... Without giving too much away, did you guys happen to notice the 'eggs within the egg' that I made? Took me a while to find them all myself, but they're in there... Damn random generators anyway.. LOL

No, I didn't.

*checks Chikan's easter egg*

Neat. I found three of them, but I don't know if there's more or not.

Heh... Yea, there's one more...

As for the videos.... Eh.... Yea... First one was kinda... odd... But no worse than my childhood attempts... LOL

The second one though, was actually not bad... Your 'modeling' skills with the clay were pretty dang spot-on.. Impressive for a 9 yr old... lol

The second one was all right - it was choppy, but the models were surprisingly good! My brother had a Wallace and Gromit modelling kit, but we failed miserably trying to build them. I still have some of the tools and the clay that came with it in my plasticine box. The clay has gone rock solid.

The first one just creeped me out.

Anyway, I got my FireWire cable today, but I think I might have knackered the FireWire port on my camera, as the connection is very temperamental, and the computer won't detect the camera anyway (I broke my old cable when my camera fell off my desk, and the connector snapped off), so I might try and open it up and take a peek inside, see if there's anything that just needs a bit of soldering, or whether I need a new camera!

Thanks for the compliments, guys! Actually, my mom helped me out with the modeling a little bit though.

@NoExcuses
Yeah I used to have that set too. The clay (believe it or not, was from a company called, "Harbutt's" ) is known for being really hard, but it you put it near a heat source it will soften up.

Yes, my 10 year old brother said his "eyes were bleeding" when he watched that clip. If you don't mind, I'm going to take that down to avoid further embarrassment.

Man, that sucks. I hope you get your camera working.

BTW, I'm rendering shot 01_11, which is the longest shot I've shot so far. I'll try to upload it soon for you guys!

Talk to you later!
