Greetings, programs and Users.

I had the idea to make a TRON fan-fiction film, which takes place in the very beginning of the MCP's reign and the "Gladiator" lightcycle games. The film was going to take place entirely in 3D with no live-action material; just lightcycles, tanks, and recognizers. Some of you might remember me posting a small demo video that I posted on YouTube. That demo was for this movie. Unfortunately, the program I used to make the movie (my very own program) was extremely simple and was basically a small game engine. As you would expect, the results weren't that great. And the process I was using was laborous and required a lot of animation troubleshooting. Sadly, I decided to call it quits; but I was hoping to "rerezz" my movie in the near future...

Recently, I watched a short film called, "Elephants Dream". Now, this isn't your regular computer animated film. The film is actually open-source and is created and animated by "Blender", the famous open-source 3D animation program. Now, while the film itself is rather "artsy-fartsy", with practically no film plot, the animation is well done and the visuals are some pretty nice "eye candy". After seeing this movie, I was "recharged" and ready go work on my movie again!

Now, I decided to make my movie using Blender. I did some tests (one or two of them I think are so good that I'm going to put them in the movie) and I absolutely love the program. Now, I also decided not to make my film, open-source, like Elephants Dream, but I will make the actual Blender files (*.blend) that I'll use in the movie available to everyone so anyone (this means you!!!) can be a part of this movie! If you want to be an animator, or modeler, or even camera or lightning guy or gal, send me a PM or an e-mail and I'll see what I can do!

I also want to make clear that this is a project that I want to complete. If you can't use or operate Blender, then please don't sign up to be a part of the crew. I don't want to have half of a whole crew of people who don't know what they're doing.

Right now, I need animators, modelers (I need them REALLY BAD!), and maybe a music guy. These are my jobs for this moive:

Chikan, I have a couple of questions though:

How do you create the red colored edges on the recognizer and on the turret on the tank? I've been trying to do that with my lightcycle model.

Also how do you import previous-created models from .blend files to other .blend files?

I'm currently working on modeling a lightcycle for the movie. It's not perfectly accurate, but it's look extremely close to the original.

If anyone wants to work on the movie with Chikan and I, please tell me!! Thanks for the compliments, halofreak. I'm going to see if I can finish the lightcycle model tonight. If I do finish it, I'll make some quick animation tests and upload them to Tron-Sector.

Hey guys, sorry I've been away..

Sinistar now has my recognizer & tank models in his arsenal, so we can get this thing off the ground...

Oh, and speaking of which, I'm sure you'll figure it out when you load my files, but those red glowy edges are actually a separate object (tubes, mostly) that I had to create & move into position along the edges of the mesh... PAINSTAKING work, but well worth it... Course, knowing now what I do, I would've joined the meshes afterwards so there wasn't so many pieces, but I made these when I was still a n00b... lol

I also forgot to mention, I've done video work on the side.. (editing, sound fx, etc) so if you need help in any of those areas, let me know too man!

PS: About importing: Look under the file menu up top... There should be an option called "Append"... This is your import tool for other blend files... UNFORTUNATELY you can't just point & click on another file... You have to select each individual object, texture, light, etc and import each piece separately... So if you're importing something with lots of complex parts, it's kinda annoying..

Ahh yes, Audacity... Yet another freeware program that kicks butt! I use it for most of my sound editing as well...

Sure thing! If you have a program that can edit and export the movie fully uncompressed, than let me know! Windows Movie Maker (the program I use to edit my movies all of the time) make my 3D animations slightly grainy, and I really hate that.

WOW dude... I just sent you those models like.. what, yesterday?! That's freakin awesome! I never knew my models could look so good! LOL

Yea, movie maker is the p00p when it comes to editing... About the only thing I use it for is importing video footage to my comp from my camcorder... I do all my effects/editing in Adobe After Effects, and sound in Audacity... I can't do full HD (2064x1080 or whatever the hell that resolution is) but then again, I'd HATE to think of the render times trying to do a 3d animation in full HD... lol

Actually, if you're proficient in Premiere that would be awesome.... After Effects is great for adding special effects & stuff, but that's what it's designed for.. It wasn't really meant to be an overall editor like Premiere is... AE is better for cool nifty effects, but Premiere gives more options for mixing video/audio/transitions, etc...
