Hi Carl!
Thanks for the kind words!
Sorry, i mixed you both up, i meant Ed.
Ive read on his homepage that he uses 3dsmax and Blender.
I already got your lightcycle-model,
but i cant convert it to another format
my 3d-package could read (almost any other).
There are a few converters, but all only
can read povray 2.0 files.
I'm happy that i can manage Lightwave3D a bit,
but povray leaves a big questionmark on my forehead.
Must be something about old dogs and new tricks...
Recently i bought an update of Lightwave3D, and with it,
my old interest in Tron flamed up again.
I plan to do many Tron-models, so i can do some
animations in a appropriate surrounding, too.

Hi Dirk
Just let me know if you want any of my models and what the best format is for you, and I will convert them for you. I have been meaning to ask you if i could use your 'TRON' logo image for something I am working on at the moment. ( i will post it soon!!), and your recognizer is looking good too.

You guy's renderings got me into the tanks again... I Completely reconstructed a Tank model that was posted on 3D Cafe for use in Dedit/TRON 2.0.
This is a model of CLUs tanks that I'm working on to go into a TRON 2.0 custom map I'm making. I'm going to be modeling the tank interior also so when it gets done I'll post it for you guys.

Ed I have a 3d studio max question for ya. I use R7 and im trying to figure out a way to do the glow effect for a tron character. On my previous models of things like recognizers and on the disc I can just assign a material to a group of faces, assign a material and effects id to just those faces then add the glow in post. Here is an example:
Now the problem wtih this is if I used that approach on a biped character I would either have to model the circuit paths (no thanks, id like to have a life hehe) or come up with a way of applyng multiple materials to teh same set of faces, ie 1 "glow map" and one "masking map" to block the unwanted glow...again very intensive work. Any ideas here would be appriciated. Thanks

tron_fanfare:
very nice disc. I was going to suggest making a circuit image in photoshop, and using it as a mask. I use this method sometimes for things like glowing windows on a spaceship. However I am also trying to make a convincing TRON figure myself, and my first version was to select the parts I wanted to glow and add the material to those regions. But as you say this is not ideal. My latest version is to apply the glow to the whole figure and then the masking map (white with the crcuit drawn in black) and masking the black areas out.
It looks like you are way ahead of me on this though, so maybe I should be asking you!!!
good luck and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
