Well, I saw it... Here's my review....
SPOILERS are in the box...
I was really affected by the first part of the film. Everything from the first moment, up until they go into Tim Robbins' basement was REALLY intense and had me on the edge of my seat.
The special effects were great. When the alien craft first comes out of the ground and makes the "whooooooooooooooooom" noise was totally freaky. And they way people just disintegrated was wild.
The scene where he lets his son go was heart wrenching....
Then the movie, for me, seemed to totally make an abrupt turn starting in the basement.
I am still not 100% sure but here is why I think that is, but I’ll take a stab at it.
Up until then, the whole story was basically them fleeing from the aliens. The aliens and alien menace was SOOO overpowering.. and you really didn't see them much up until that point.
The basement scene went on too long I think. And then we started getting the fact that Tom Cruise's character was smarter than the aliens and that kind of took a down turn for me. There was too much luck and too much actual interaction with the aliens for me to enjoy it like I did the first half.
Most of the rest of the movie was a downer for me. It seemed to move too quickly and too much "luck" type situations were involved. His Son is ok. Boston, where his ex-wife is, is untouched. He just HAPPENS to have brought along grenades when he's taken into the "holding" pens.
Also.. and I know this was the original ending, but it just ended too quickly. It's like... all intense and then in the last 15 minutes they're (the aliens) dead. There's something about the way it was presented that just kind of left me wanting something.
OK, well having typed that out I think I have an idea of my reasoning now. I think what affected me the most was that the first ½ of the movie played as a war movie, with refugees and how it affected normal everyday people. The terror for me was how everything could just… change.. just like that. The second half, from the basement on was a Hollywood alien movie. Which is not bad I suppose but really just seemed totally different from the first half.
So… all in all first half of the movie: A+. Second half of the move: B. |

There were parts of it that were OK. I think at that point the film was trying to shift from war movie to alien movie, as there were a little bit of both elements.
I felt bad for what Ray had to do. I know why he did it. I'm wondering if people had to make that same decision in real life.
The whole "hiding" thing seemed a bit long though. Especially since it spanned two different scenes.

Yeah, that was long, wasn't it?
And the ending was quite crummy, if you ask me. They shouldn't have remet with the mom.... I mean, come on! I thought she died or something!!
That would be more realistic!!
But, it was a good movie anyway...where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

But I am sure not well met with test audiences. Maybe we'll see that as an alternate ending in the DVD

Yeah...I guess they kinda have to end it for the audiences and all..
Kind-of like the movie Dodgeball, where the "bad guys" were supposed to win at the end. Though, that would've been funnier...I laughed at the alternate ending.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

I just saw this movie a few days ago and I admit I was totally freak out by it...
But it was pretty awesome I liked all the effects...
There were some problems with the movie though...
Near the end the birds were attacking the tripod and why were the sheilds down????
Just because the aliens got sick, doesn't mean their sheilds should go down.
What was the vine stuff????
And if the aliens had been planning this extermination before humans existed, how did the aliens know the machines had to run on blood????
I give the movie an A. Not A+ but A.

Good question... my guess is that Cruise's character saw that the birds found a way into the alien ship that wasn't covered by the shields. That is why he yelled at the soldiers to attack that one spot.
What was the vine stuff???? |
Their food. They were using the earth as farmland.
And if the aliens had been planning this extermination before humans existed, how did the aliens know the machines had to run on blood???? |
The machines were not running on blood. They were shredding people and making them into fertilizer to spray onto the vines.

Heh... even though the movie didn't scare me, the night I saw it I had some pretty bad dreams...
It's strange how that works, because I was laughing at the beginning (I was expecting an updated version of the book...)
by the end of the movie, though, I realized that it was good, even though it didn't follow the book.
