When I was in 8th grade, I won 2nd place in a Star Wars fan fiction contest. It was pretty fun. SInce then, though, I've really tried to get away from fan fiction... writing professors don't take it very seriously, and I got tired of using other people's characters.

The last year or so I've been working on a series of short stories called Tales of Emerald City. It's about a few superheroes in a Seattle clone in a near future after the US has started a full-scale war against the Mexican drug cartels and the drug trade in the US. I think the superhero novel has a strong chance of taking off. A book gives you so much more room to play with internal conflict and that sort of stuff.

If someone told me that vampire/werewolves would be "in" 5 years ago, I'd have never believed them...I think that Superhero fiction would have more potential to be...more developed than twilight and it's ripoffs though. It's all there with Superheroes though, you have drama, action/fight scenes, moral complexity, and characterization- and in a novel, I think that they'd be a good format for that genre.
