What was Flynn's original intention?

on Tuesday, March, 08, 2011 9:18 PM
He told a young Sam that the Grid would be for programs and Users. Was it his intent to have humans visit the Grid? What would they do, sign up? ENCOM employees only? What if the government found out? You could kiss that anyone stuff goodbye.

Since time travels faster on the grid, Flynn could conduct an 150 year long scientific study in 3 months.

Since time travels 50 times faster On-Grid

If you're not him, you've got a peek at what he was like. He drove me nuts sometimes, and as a newbie, I might have left, but I wanted a nice active Tron forum to play on.So I stayed despite his rudeness.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Y'know, I keep wondering that myself. Just what, exactly, did he think bringing the two worlds together was going to change? He must have had a lot more faith in humanity than I have, that's for sure. I can just imagine a digital Paris Hilton running around with a digital chihuahua in her digital purse....THAT is what bringing humanity into the Grid would result in. And apparently he had some sort of ideas that I'm not coming up with myself, because while it'd be cool to go hang out with Tron and Ram, it's not exactly a life-changing or world-saving event... In fact, I could see it becoming problematic as some people would probably spend more time in the Grid than in their real lives.

What do you want? I'm busy.

Program, please!

I answered a part of that, I believe my response is the second one on this thread.

So the cure for many diseases would likely be found in those 150 years on-Grid

One thing and, I agree with you, humans running around on the Grid would be 100x worse than one Clu. All that potential and the greedy would take over. Military applications? Maybe, let's see. Creating wonderful things....that only the rich could afford.

Was Flynn too altruistic to see the truth of things? Yes, because the minute he's gone, ENCOM is changed away from his free system world to let's sell copies of what people have already but raiss the price.

He was jamming, man. Building utopia. I'd say he was idealistically naive in thinking that was possible for the Grid let alone the real world. All it takes is one bad apple to spoil the lot.

The guy was removed? O_o

(I had been away for a while, so it appears I missed quite a bit)

EIther case, I've been wondering the same thing, but I'll have to wait till I can get to watch the movie on Blu-ray. (For those who do not know, I'm deaf and barely can lipread because it's more of a guess work than actually "understanding". So I really did miss out on a great deal of dialogue except for that one random lipread moment of Flynn saying "Tron.")where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

it might be a boon for mathematicians. philosophers etc.

but for medical researchers. how can anyone bring cell samples into the grid?
that would imply that human cells are directly moved into the grid, which
means flynn's (supposedly) digital copy is composed of cells.

i'd say for research purposes the time dilation effect is useful for
disciplines that rely on using the mind. to have enough time to hash out
theories or form new ones etc.

also scientists would be devoting a lot of their time to finding out
what exactly the grid is. is it another universe? is it a simulation?
is it another dimension? what are the universal constants if it is not a simulation?
why can energy be easily manipulated into solid objects etc.

At the beginning of the movie there is a short clip of Flynn addressing a huge audience in the same maniacal manner as Clu before his army as to what they believed their destinys were. Both of them wanted to lead invasions into the other worlds.

Well, we know Flynn has altruistic visions, even if at first all he wanted was proof his games had been stolen. But I don't think he wanted to invade. In fact, I would think he would limit the numbers of humans he would let into the Grid.

Now Clu, I wonder what he expected his programs to do once they got there. What did he really know about Flynn's world? Was he going out there to attack Users? Like the armies of the world would even allow that.

Actually, I knew who JediTray was because I was a member of www.originaltrilogy.com, where there was someone there named JediTray that I knew. When he got banned for deleting all of his projects, and used "User897" to post until the mods busted him. THAT'S how I know. I'm guessing this LWSrocks fellow and him had some feuds, which makes sense because on OT.com he was always trying to start shit with other members.

Okay, for anybody who doesn't believe this is true: go to http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Let-JediTray-back-in/topic/12165/

But I wonder, does stuff work the same way on the Grid as in real life? Like biological experiments and such? Why would cells and such behave the same way in a digital environment? It'd be so long before the FDA and such would trust it after and uber-ton of testing...

IluthraDanar Wrote:Was Flynn too altruistic to see the truth of things? Yes, because the minute he's gone, ENCOM is changed away from his free system world to let's sell copies of what people have already but raiss the price.
Oh, dude. They should go into the college textbook business!

KiaPurity Wrote:So I really did miss out on a great deal of dialogue except for that one random lipread moment of Flynn saying "Tron.")
Well, that WAS the most important part.

episodic4 Wrote:Well, for what it's worth, here's my theory- ISOs are special because they have genetic constructs. Hence, the scene on the Solar Sailer when Flynn is explaining that the fact he could go into Quorra's Identity Disk to repair her DNA is what makes her so special. With this realization, people with life-threatening diseases could go into the grid, have their disks looked at, and- BOOM. They are now super-healthy. Thoughts?
But, their DNA is different from ours, AND it IS originally digital. I mean, really it's just a bunch of coding on her disc. (You could argue that human DNA is the same way, but still, in its original state it is made up of biological elements--do those translate well into code? Who knows if human DNA can be accessed that way?

Guys, do we gotta keep having the LWSRocks debate? Or can we at least maybe start a separate thread if we don't want to take it to PMs with the mods? I haven't a clue who the dude is/was--on this board I've seen him use different ages, different names (above he's called "Lawson." I heard someone else previously refer to him as "Lewis"), insist his brother made part of his posts, and I'm probably forgetting some stuff. I'm fuzzy on exactly why he was banned. I have no idea which new member(s) may be him with a new name. Not sure I care unless he starts causing trouble again, in which case I'm sure he'll be banned again. But I AM pretty tired of seeing the arguments in every single thread. Can we, y'know, maybe take it to PM, and then NOT publicly post all the PMs, and maybe involve the mods if it's a question of harassment rather than the rest of us since there's nothing we can do about it and it's clear such actions are a mere attempt to call someone out publicly, and get the whole incident over with??

What do you want? I'm busy.

One of the things I found puzzling is how excited Flynn was about the nebulous potential for the Isos to "change everything", when the Grid seemed like the real miracle.

Think about it. Problems with global overcrowding and lack of natural resources? Just set up a server rack somewhere and let people emigrate into it via digitizing laser. Food doesn't seem to be an issue there, and any material objects you need or desire could be rezzed up as needed. Interested in scientific advances? Digitize some engineers and researchers and let them set up shop in the Grid. They'll be working at a rate fifty times faster than the outside world, and they're inside the ultimate simulator, enabling them to test anything they design to perfection before construction begins in the real world. And while it's not true immortality, aging one year for every fifty cycles you spend on the Grid is pretty damn close... I'm not sure what Quorra is supposed to do for humanity, but it's hard to imagine it being more awe-inspiring than the Grid itself.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

For what its worth, this has happened to me before on other forums. An old timer will usually start the ball rolling and others follow. I left one forum when this happened to me, deleting all my posts beforehand. It happened on another forum, so bad the forum monitor (Anon? ;-) ) came in and told everyone the old timers had no moderator rights so keep it friendly or else.

When we all come to a place to have discussions on the same things, why not keep it friendly. You may even learn something and meet nice people. I've actually gone to conventions with people I met on forums. Good times!

Um...what was the topic again?

I personally do not care one iota about who is who or who got banned or whatever little internets drama is going on. Can we PLEASE just talk about Tron?

Yeah, I think Clu thought that he could use the biological data stored in the laser to construct an army of programs in the real world. Can you imagine though, if perhaps he did manage to squeeze, say 300 programs into the laser, and the laser used Flynn's biological data to form 300 miniature programs/humans instead of one big one?

Actually I can see it - if I had 300 Black Guard action figures (which I think if I wanted I could probably get cheap these days) I would make a photoshop thing.
