Toyota TRON-ified

on Wednesday, March, 02, 2011 10:48 AM
Currently there is the Autosalon in Geneva (3-13. March), the European pedant to the Detroit Motor Show.

At this show, Toyota presented its new car: Toyota Yaris Hybrid (hot stuff btw !!).
For the image / concept film of this new car, they took a TRON-like setting. In my opinion, though this highly looks like pure rip-off, this video is cool and it shows how well Legacy made in TRON's popularity. Finally, it gets the attention TRON deserved 28 years ago.

And now, enjoy.

Oh, btw. I'll buy this car in 2013 !

TOTALLY Tron-like. Seems like a ripoff to me. I mean, for heaven's sake, parts are even reminiscent of the scene where Sam is taking Flynn's lightcycle into the city. (If it were green I'd say maybe Matrix ripoff. If they'd chosen another color, I might give it to them as non-ripoff, but...) Too bad it's a....Yaris. If Audi had done this, I'd be falling off my chair and saving my pennies. But a Yaris...

Hrm, so when I saw the Prius display in Detroit and said "look, it's Tron turquoise," I maybe wasn't so far off base after all:

I dunno in which country you life and how old you are...

However, Toyota Auris and Yaris are VERY popular in Europe. Though they are not the most beautiful cars. Why? Because they are fuel-efficient and still can be kicked to 160 km/h.
In comparison, we do think all the Scios and Infinity and pickups in the USA are highly ugly and dirty.

The new Yaris includes a hybrid engine, means it only uses ~ 3.9 litres / 100 km - 52 mpg.

I'm a car driver for 5 years now and I really do not like people driving some BWM, Porsche, whatever sports car or pickup which is like 20 mpg. So the Yaris, now looking good if the concept goes real, is a good alternative.
And Prius always looked TRON-like.

Especially if you see that a gallon in Germany is about 6 Euros. (1,50 per litre)

yeeeeeah.
Very very very obviously "inspired" and derivative of Tron Legacy's visual graphic style and effects... Even the music was very reminicent of Tron Legacy's music.order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

Well, it's a COMMERCIAL looking to SELL a car, so...

And as far as the Yaris: it may be fuel-efficient, but the looks still leave plenty to be desired. Don't make me post the picture of the Civic concept too...

Fuel-efficiency is the only thing that is impotant these days. And Toyota is (was *cough*) quite reliable. Ok, I agree. Toyota is not good in designing a hot chick of a car. However, the '10s Detroit Civic model is kind of ugly.

Looks way too edgy for me and does not have 5 doors.

Nah, Toyota wins this time. The '06 orange Civic concept was better.

I guess I'll add some reflection or light stripes when buying this Yaris. Make it even more TRON.

For those with a family, SAFETY and COMFORT is most important. How well does it hold up in crash tests?? Can you sit in the car without your head scraping the roof, or your knees jammed against whatever is in front of you? If you run into the back of a freight truck, will it decapitate you?????? LOL. I've seen many cars like that.

Fuel economy is really a convenience more than anything else. I know a guy who just had to replace his huge pickup with something. He got a Saturn Aura. He loves the MPG...but he misses being able to 'stretch out' in his pickup. He's about 6.5'...so he needs ROOM.

I have a Toyota Camry, myself. But with my family growing up, the kids are getting a little cramped in the backseat. Probably going to get a minivan in a year or 2. A big step DOWN in gas mileage, but we need the room...although not sure if I'll be replacing with another Toyota. LOL

Seriously, I would have used this type of commercial for a sleek sports car. Not an 'eco car'. The car seems so out of place in it. To each his/her own, though.order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

Civic's quite comfortable for some of us. Way more room than I need 99% of the time since I never use the back seat and rarely the trunk. And any car will have you decapitated by a truck, sorry. That was a pretty cool commercial, though I'm not much of a Yaris fan. I'm old school. Give me a gas-guzzling, faster than greased lightning, V8 monster all wrapped up in a beautiful sleek body (Chevrolet Corvette comes to mind) any day!

But if you're really looking for a "TRON-ified" vehicle, take a look at this:

http://www.trucktrend.com/future/concepts/163_news080925_chevy_orlando_photos/photo_01.html

It's an early photo shoot of the Chevrolet Orlando, which I think has been canceled for U.S. production (but I could be wrong on that). I thought it was a bit weird that a minivan/SUV type of vehicle was chosen to be all "TRON'ed" out. I would have thought they would have gone with a cool sports car or something like that, but hey, that's just me. But then again, most potential buyers that would recognize it as "TRON-like" are probably old enough to be married and toting the kiddies around, so I guess the SUV makes sense. LOL!

Because I'm thinking about getting a Toyota in 2 years because my Opel is slowly getting old. (12)

I'm driving cars for 6 years now, so don't tell me about my personal taste.
Since I am in Germany, I'd only buy cars which at least does have parts from here.
VW is too expensive, BMW too, Mercedes... oh never mind.
Toyota got german engines and got the cheapest prices of them.
I need a small car, since I'm small too. I cannot drive big BMWs, I tried it..

Please have in mind that cars and gas are WAY more expensive in Germany than in the US.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

Didn't know that, guy. Bummer since it's getting uber expensive here, too. :/

As far as crashes, I think everyone can differentiate between a larger, more solid car...and a tiny 'crunch-mobile'. 'Nuff said. LOL

You also have to remember that I've been driving cars for: 35 years. LOL. My best auto I ever possessed was a 1969 GTO Judge. If ya have no idea what that is, I can't help ya ROFL It's a shame everyone can't have a chance to drive one. Just once.

Some short counts from by fu *oops* ing home country:
The Toyota Yaris (current version) with totally basic interieur and a 1.0 engine (70 PS) and 3-doors is about 12.000 Euros in Germany. Thats about 16.500 $.
If you want to have 5-doors, AC, navigation, parking assistence and - of course - 6 gears you have to pay 16.000 Euros. Thats 22.000$.

For a new Toyota Yaris 1.0L!
Please have in mind that it is common here to switch the gears by hand and not automatically by the car.

The gas prices are also HUGE here in Frankfurt. Americans complain about 3.50 dollars per gallon? Germans would laugh at you very loud.
We have to pay 1.50 Euros per litre. Thats 8 Dollars per gallon.

Now you know why driving a cheap and rather small car is better in Germany, especially for someone who earns average money for his/her job here.

Of course you always see people driving the new germany-only BMW or Mercedes or VW cars which only reach 20 miles per gallon. However, that is a minority and you barely see SUVs or a Pickups on german streets.

Is it permitted in the US.... to put some reflection / light stripes on your car like seen in Pimp My Ride? Or are these cars shown by MTV just for the show? This hybrid Yaris with some TRON Legacy stripes - AWESOME!

In Germany it is only allowed to have tribals which have mat colors.

I drive a pickup... and what I wouldn't give for a decent-looking car with better fuel economy. I've gone through $60 of gas this week, and the week's not even over. Poor guy. Why not sell this fucker and buy a second-hand 5-doors japanese / german car? Point goes to Toyota Yaris, lol. Or a newer Auris, which is big enough for families. What about a VW Golf? Do they exist in the US?
I mean, 60 bucks for gas! A week! Thats impressive, dude. I complain when my Opel (Vauxhal in UK, not a brand in the US) takes 70 Euros in gas ... a MONTH.

You weren't even allowed to drive such a "crappy" car on german streets.
In most cities, we have "climate zones" which says cars above a specific pollution level do not have access to the big inner cities like Frankfurt or Munich.

Plus, the german car control (you have to go there every two years) is very strict. So if your car goes nuts like you described it with your pickup, you have the permission to drive it to the next car repair shop but nowhere else, otherwise it will get very expensive for you.

Well, it's not really my decision to make. I'm still at home, and this is all I have. My dad won't get rid of it because we need a small pickup for the work we do during the summer, and my mom uses her car... so I'm stuck. And I'm a bit of a superficial guy, so I'm probably not going for a Golf or a Japanese, because they're just so ugly.
