I don't think it WAS based on the internet. The new Grid is a private server. Now I'm not sure how far "private" spans, but it is not the whole world using it.(Like the Internet)
Yeah, I was about to edit my post, Thanks for the assist. But my point is, I think if ANYTHING is based off something on a computer -- A machine built to let man experience color, power, life, And communication, It should be colorful.

I think you need to lay off the illicit substances sir. You're seeing color when few or none exist.

And while Tron Legacy had arguably less color compared to it's predecessor (though I would say it was more colorful in some bits than the original), to say that it ruined Tron is absurd.

The environmental changes to The Grid make complete sense and actually fit with the story.
The first movie came out in 1982 (as we all know). Back in 1982, our own computer systems were very basic, simplistic, and the graphics engines were very low performance.
The world of The Grid is entirely based on the programs, machines, etc of the physical world. The fact that our graphics back then sucked completely explains why the environment the programs lived in was not very advanced (and the fact that the CGI back then sucked).

Hey guys! Check out my awesome new computer!

The Grid has gone through several OS upgrades and Kevin even talks about how The Grid has changed (Kevin's white light cycle is from the 2nd generation of The Grid OS, not the first). The fact that the world of Tron looks very streamlined, lacking of colors, etc. is a great comparison to our own technology. Most laptops retail stores sell are black or gray, or mainly very flat, non-bright colors. The nicer cellphones...black, gray, white.
The fact that the old light cycles had a solid wall behind them, and now they have an opaque wall is kind of like going from the windows in XP to the windows in 7, specifically the Aeroglass feature. Now that our graphics cards can support it, so can The Grid's.
Watch this video to see some truly amazing CGI (none of it is real, it's all computer animated)
http://www.todaysbigthing.com/technology/2010/11/18
Now not everything is going to fit perfectly, like my examples of laptop and cellphone color, but you have to remember that the visual production crew is going to use cues from our own world and try and make a world that kind of personifies our own technology. It's to make a comparison to our world. Not the In-Movie world, but kind of a comparison to how we currently live our lives with our technology. The Grid is always dark and gloomy looking, and it's probably the writers way of saying "Technology is cool, but it can corrupt and dependence on technology is bad and depressing".

Okay...I think I'm done not making sense.

You do realize that up until the late 70's and early eighties most computers used monochrome displays. So maybe the B&W was right on.

It did not ruin TRON, it just was not as creative as the original.

I've been a hardcore fan of Tron and the Tron universe since 1982. As many of the original memebers of this site that have been here since 2001 or before.

To aswer the question of the original post.

No, Tron Legacy did NOT ruin Tron. Period. End of Line

Greetings programs! No Tron Legacy didn't ruin Tron it put new life into it!
It's just awesome how they continued everything from Encom and Alan and Flynn Dillenger etc.

I think Legacy was colorful... flashing lights.. fireworks...
light up drinks... at End of Line club...

Best movie ever!

Yeah anybody who says Legacy wasn't "colorful" is obviously color blind. Lightcycles and Light Jets? Blue, Orange, Yellow, Green... Looked pretty colorful to me.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

OH come on, don't fool me. Legacy is by far not the best Sci Fi movie ever and it was not very colorful compared to the original TRON.

It is colorful, indeed. However, the new adidas neon stripes style was not meant to be as playful as the original. Especially the two big transport sequences "outlands and solar sailor" were way to dark and lacked of some color tones in the landscapes to actually show the audience how vast the grid really is.

I know, the Outlands sequence had big shots and actually showed the vast grid. However, not as eye-catching as it could have been.

Sorry but they didn't have pink and purple lightcycles in the original Tron so I don't see your point. Have a Skittles and get over it.

Well, I guess I got the advantage. I've watched original TRON yesterday to compare it to Legacy again.

Most scenes got more color than Legacy. Which, as said, might be based on the different styles the movies used. This does nothing have to do with personal opinion, this is a film fact.

I fail to see how Legacy "ruins" the original Tron. Been a fan since 82 and I like them both.

I do NOT say Legacy ruins TRON. Read my first comment in this topic...

Its just .... the outlands scenes really were very boring because one just saw black cliffs and nothing else. They really lacked of color.

I think that Tron:Legacy was definitely a darker premise than the original Tron which was more campy and colorful. I do not believe that T:L ruined Tron. Perhaps it was the fact that CLU turned the Grid into a police state and I could sense a depressive environment within the entire computer world. One program even decided to commit suicide rather than being returned to the games. Overall, the movie did have a darker feel than the original film.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion
