I said it before and I'll say it again. Paying such an amount is only going to hurt the rest of us. Now that someone has gotten away with charging it, there will be no stopping it. The only thing now that can counteract it is if the items show up at retail (Target stores in this case) around the home video release.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen any sign that it will happen.
Saying that we cannot express ourselves about such a negative impact is downright irresponsible and impossible to avoid. |
I dunno. I think there's a way to voice your opinion in a respectful way...and in an 'ugly' way. Which way anyone would say that would be open to individual interpretation.
Personally, I don't see anything 'wrong' with what BlueLightCycle did. Yes, it will probably drive prices up. And??????? Nobody can say he did anything 'wrong' by making a personal choice. He got what he wanted, paying more than what the items are worth, but now he is set because he got what he wanted. I believe (as you do) that these items are TOAST here in the US. If any are released, it will be a very small smattering. Everyplace I go, these things are on clearance or just plain drying up. No stock in the stockrooms.
I think this is one of those 'hedge your bets' situations. I'm doing the same thing as Blue did (although not on Fleabay). Yes, it drives up prices....but it also ENSURES that I get what I want. Which is really what it's all about. If I DON'T buy it now, someone else will. There's tons of people out there with MUCH deeper pockets than yours truly. The prices will be 'driven up' whether he or I pay 'too much' for something or not. It really boils down to 'supply and demand'. As for me: I'd rather 'get while the getting's hot'....than not be able to get at all.
If I buy it now at a high price, I now possess it. And I don't need to do the usual 'store sweep'. Wasting time and gas going from store to store to store. Just to be disappointed.
Again: I don't believe we'll see any more Tron toys being released uniformly across the US at DVD/Blu release. Then again: nobody really knows for sure. So there's not much to talk about. Maybe some people complaining about Blue will be sorry they waited in a month or two...
Just sayin' my 2 cents Oh...and on topic: today I got...DIDDLY! And I did a serious store sweep. This stuff is going byebyes.
Best of luck to everyone in your own individual 'quests' to acquire the toys you want to own.

Guess people should have jumped on them when Kingplayer still had TONS of them for $15 USD. each. That's what happens when you come late to the party. You snooze, you lose.

Exactly. And for those that haven't noticed, Kingplayer is seeing what is in high demand...and is adjusting those prices. Up.
Right now is what I would call 'panic mode' for many Tron collectors. People seem to be perfectly happy paying full retail for this stuff everywhere. Target. Walmart. No sales at any of mine...and it's flying out the door!
Buy now....or pay more later. There might be that bit of luck, and some stuff is released again at DVD/Blu release. If so, the people who didn't buy early are happy. The people that paid too much early have a chance for an extra to keep closed. Everyone's happy. However...if luck is not with us....

Collecting is a mixture of:
1. Getting lucky and finding something at a bargain price or someone helps you out
2. Paying normal shop prices
3. Ouch my wallet!
I don't believe any serious collector has ever managed to get away with just sticking to 1 & 2, sometimes you have to pay over the odds for that last item to complete a collection and when you're bidding that high number you're certainly not thinking about how it can affect the market for anyone else - you're just thinking about completing/increasing your collection.
And as pointed out a few posts back, if you're not willing to spend high for an item, someone else almost always is - and you won't get it.
I'm very thankful to those that have helped out with getting the rare items from the US, without their help I would have had to pay over the odds for the items off eBay.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlineorder abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Well said, Glitch. There's also alot of stress that goes on with this, too. Especially when inventory starts to 'dry up'. Sometimes it's better to just pony up instead of seriously popping a blood vessel or something. lol.
I know tonight, it was fairly 'solemn' as I returned home with my boy empty handed. Again. And since there's no backroom inventory, it's pretty much time to hang up the store sweeps for Tron stuff. A sad moment...but inevitable. Yet if we are able to complete our collection buying only, when that package comes in the mail...no matter how much it cost at the time...it's like Christmas came early

And yet most stuff can still be had at bargain prices online from Disney Store, Wal-Mart, etc. The money you spent on gas is probably more than shipping.

Petrol in the UK is 2.5x as much as the US so the statement about the fuel costing more than the postage is definitely valid when the nearest store selling a handful of Tron toys is 15 miles away and the 2nd nearest is 30 miles away.
Being in the countryside I love buying stuff on the internet and it's true, there's not much that can beat the "NEW TOY!!!" feeling when you get that rare/cool item arriving in the post on an unspecified date
What's not cool is when the rare can-never-be-bought-again item goes missing in the post, which happened to me this year on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlineabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Today I got my Tron Evolution keyring light, it's pretty sweet!
Also, instead of paying $40+ shipping for the Sam + Arcade, I came across this piece on ebay.co.uk
http://tinyurl.com/4bl4ngt
It came out to about $30 shipped and being 6" I felt better buying that instead of the Sam + Arcade. Probably be a more limited piece too although it may never have the 'value' of the 2 pack.

That miniature arcade machine replica is sweet!
There's also a coctail cabinet version too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/120691398560
Shame they don't have a Pang3! or Pang! version, I'd love to get one of those for my brother's birthday. edit: but they have a miniature BTTF pinball machine replica!! Oh yes, definitely going to get that for him

I just checked the disneystore.com FAQ and it says they ship internationally.
Woohoo!
I assumed that because the UK online Disney store didn't that the US one didn't either.
Right, off to order some core figures...

While I am happy for Glitch and other UK members, it's a little unfair to North American members. Disney UK will not ship overseas, but Disney USA will?

The US online store must be a much larger operation than the UK online store, larger market and all that, they must be shipping so many packages that the step up to shipping interntionally was probably a small one considering the increased market it covers.
The UK store for the main part sells the same stuff as the US one with a few exceptions (Recogniser carry case & Pullback Light Cycle for example) so it would be extra hassle with not as much benefits to ship internationally when the US store already does.
Well that's just my theory, if someone has a concrete answer then please post!
edit: going through checkout, $58 of items will cost $50 to post! ouch, that pushes the prices to almost eBay levels, and if UK customs decided they want a cut it certainly will push it to eBay prices. Of all the international transactions I've done, I've found that the UK is the most expensive for both sending and receiving.
Not sure why that is...
