With his conclusions it seems to me that if Tron Legacy had been released a year ago it could have won Best Picture!

It was extremely slow, I kept almost falling asleep, the "action" wasn't really entertaining, and the only thing I could say that's good about it is that it introduced me to a wonderful and exciting world. The problem lies in that it's only a wonderful and exciting world if the story is. Oh, and the identity disks look cool. |
Wait, was this the first time you ever saw the original Tron? So you never saw it in the context of being a 12 year old kid, having never EVER seen anything like it before in the history of cinema? That's like criticizing Fritz Lang's Metropolis because it isn't a talkie. I'm not saying that the original Tron was an Oscar-winning masterpiece, but it was still a cinematic milestone.

The original Tron and probably the sequel, really only can be appreciated from a computer-science background, else like you say, you are to seek action.

for me, i didn't want to see avatar twice as much as i wanted to watch tron, buy the movie, soundtrack, toys and even cosplay as a character. i think there is a lot more story in tron (but it was put in a pretty confusing way) than avatar. but they're both equal in visuals. i think because a lot of people liked avatar more because of james cameron or something, and tron is a disney movie, because that's why a lot of my friend didn't really want to watch it (but in the end, they loved it after i forced them to go)

That's the thing....you're a young'un, and I think that was the fear as discussed here before with new Tron vs. old Tron and younger moviegoers, right?
I never saw it in the theater when I was 12 and don't know how I would've felt about it if I had (the movie came out a couple months before I did, so, yeah) but I may've just liked it and thought it was pretty badass (my partner was in love with it when he was a kid, after all) but I still think it's appreciable from a nostalgic point of view, especially since it's the same age as me. Anyone who still has a fond place in their heart for their Atari is going to take a kinder view to original Tron. On the other hand, someone who thinks, "what the hell is a Super Nintendo and a Sega? Zelda, what?" and who had a cell phone in their hand at the same age when most of the rest of us were learning how to use a rotary phone is going to be thinking very differently.
What do you want? I'm busy.

Ha! So true. I remember how cool the first home computers and game consoles were. I got my first computer the same year we finally had a VCR at home. I still remember loading games off tape and waiting forever, just to play Frogger.
The original TRON is not a "borefest" if you are acclimatised to the slower-pace of that era's films and can at all relate to the magic of the early digital revolution. The original Star Wars is also very leisurely paced by today's standards, but in its time it was a non-stop thrill ride. I saw Star Wars in '82 and TRON in '85, and they were both so captivating that the experiences never left me.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Exactly right. TRON caught the wave of a new cultural zeitgeist right at the right moment, and set people's imaginations on fire.Home computers were a new phenomenon, video games and the arcade scene were taking the country by storm, and consumer technology in general was entering a new and revolutionary phase. The home of the 70s was suddenly being invaded and transformed by cable TV, the VCR, the home video game system, and the home computer --all of which were brand new and hitting the market basically all at once. In just the first few years of the 80s, life was being changed at an astonishing, revolutionary rate by new technology and it had people excited and wondering what the future would hold.
TRON presented a vision of a world completely transformed by technology in a way that was utterly awe-inspiring. Nobody had ever seen anything like it. Even today, no other movie has ever looked like TRON. And that includes it's own sequel.
Even today, TRON is ahead of it's time.

Agreed. Thoughts will be different. LWS is 12 now, likely will be 13 this year.
Means he/she was born in '98/'99, so LWS grew up and is still growing up where the practice of CGI in film is very popular, and by comparison, Tron will suffer.
So, of course its boring to him/her, fortunately he/she wasn't old enough to see Deep Blue Sea, or Jar Jar in The Phantom Menace.

when I saw the original TRON, I had about 10-11 years old and, even though I did like the movie in general, I didn't really feel a connection to any of the characters. In the end TRON is a gorgeous but flawed movie that set up the basis for the current CGI in movies today.
Avatar doesn't really tread new paths, but both movie universes are rich enough for people to want to spend more time learning about them. That said, yes, I agree that TRON:Legacy would have given Avatar a run for it's money at the Academy Awards based on plot alone.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pillabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

I enjoyed Avatar, yet I enjoyed Tron Legacy a whole lot more.
Now It's sort of ironic that the scene with Jake links up to his "avatar" showing a digital worm hole is very, very Tron-ish...where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Tron Legacy blows Avatar out of the water!!
I only saw Avatar once and thought it was WAY to long!!
I didn't like it as much.
It was cool don't get me wrong..
that living tree thingy looked good in 3D...
But Tron Legacy not only has a deeper Story...
but it also showed what 3D can really do!
Plus the music in Tron Legacy is way better..
Plus Gem is way prettier than the girl from Avatar

Yeah, I'm the same. I first saw Avatar at a midnight showing when it first came out, at the time I thought it was a pretty good movie. Just got it from Netflix, and boy have my tastes changed since then.
I ended fast forwarding it through plenty of places, because The pace of the movie was so slow.

I absolutely adored Avatar on IMAX theater. It was a tremendous thrill ride, more than it was a "movie" for me. For exhilarating factor I still give it to Avatar because it's still the best 3D motion picture I've seen since the original Captain EO at Disneyland, back in the late 80s.
Things just popped perfectly.
For story and plot however, I enjoyed TRON so much better. While the visuals are wonderful, the 3D effects were lacking immensely at my theater with "Liemax" technology.
The music was/is awesome.
I love trance, electronica and ambient music. Used to produce it myself. So the movie soundtrack was a real treat! Daft Punk is such a wonderfully talented duo.
I wish there was MORE.
As for Avatar, in the end, I never ended up buying the DVD because I wasnt too attached to the film's story and furthermore I felt it was a film i could only enjoy in IMAX 3D. And not in any other format or screen size.
Tron Legacy however, I must own! The mythology is incredibly seductive! "So, nice-looking ship you got here ." |

This is amusing. I'm tied, on here Tron wins, on the Avatar forum, Avatar wins. I think it's a little biased! But seriously, everyone has different tastes, and after reading such strong Pro-Avatar arguments (they claim Avatar has a deeper story) it's nice to see people defending Tron Legacy. I love em both ^-^ (hence the signature)where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online
