Honestly, I like both. The first one a little more. Mainly because of how colorless it is, it kinda gives the Reco a "stealthy" look to it.

So am I, and me neither If you like the Recognizer, wait until you see some of the sets. Or the tanks. Or the light-jet. Or Kadij with the wings and helmet in motion. It's getting really exciting from a production standpoint because I'm finally starting to polish up useable assets, which will mean much faster production and post-production as we'll be able to prototype on set to make sure we're getting the shots we need.

LWSrocks Wrote:How long do you think this movie is going to be and when can we see the first installment of Morphology fan-fiction?

The length question is a difficult one. Originally, it was conceived as a 2-3 minute fight/effects extravaganza but Lesley and I are starting to fall in love with these characters and as I discover that I'm able to do more in terms of effects design it's opening up. 5-6 minutes is probably a better bet, but knowing Lesley and I a 10 minute short is not out of the question.

Re: Morphology fan fic, I'm going to be on a train a bunch this weekend and will be using that time to write. The first story will be titled Kai and may be up next week, although I'm kind of thinking that I want to wait until next weekend so that I can get some photos of Lesley and I done up for cover art.

LWSrocks Wrote:Speaking of which, I'd like to write some sort of fan-fiction to tie into Morphology and that's something you've expressed interest in doing yourself, I believe. If you just gave me the basic plot I could write something up for you nicely, as soon as I'm finished with the script for the first installment of Tron: Corruption, which won't take long at all.

Okay, correction. I will first write a synopsis of the story arc for you and then I will start on the writing

I agree with typicaltronname's sentiment about the "stealthy reco". I'd expect that for a Black Guard a stealthy ride would be required, such as the dark-painted helicopters special forces use in "the real world"...your models look great!

I am keenly following this project, it is great to see such a piece of work come together in front of your eyes...we won't even need a special features disc for the Blu-ray release! ;-) by all means keep us posted.

SWEET!!!!!!! Looking forward to seeing this.

As far as a name for the lead ISO, how about the following:
VIRTUS (means Strength/Power in Latin)
BHAGA (Sanskrit for fame, glory, strength, power)

Let me know what you think. Will be checking this out.

Out of curiousity, what editing software will you be using, and what kind of cameras? I'm a video production guy, and am fascinated by that kind of stuff, if you'd be so kind to share that info.Thanks.

Hey man...Aileron is no joke....Trust me, thousands of airplanes wouldn't be in service without them.

The movie will stand alone, but it'll have more impact if you read the shorts, so they're going to be released beforehand. Ultimately I want to have content to release in case the film goes off-schedule for whatever reason.

Also, sorry I didn't get the material to you was in Toronto for the weekend and didn't have a chance to leech wifi until now.

Love the names, may work them into the prologue short stories that we're doing. The name of the ISO, as LWS mentioned, has been decided though. Bhaga is awesome. Love Sanskrit and Arabic names.

In terms of the hardware, we're going to be shooting in digital HD, I'll get back to you on exactly what kind of camera we're using as I have to check with my camera guy and he seems to have gone AWOL today. Editing will be done in Adobe Premiere Pro, sound editing in Soundbooth and Audacity, 3D work in 3DS Max 6 (old, but it's the newest one I have a legal license for), 2D stuff in Photoshop, motion graphics, motion-tracking, VFX, and compositing in After Effects CS3. It seemed like a good idea to me, but if it's not, I'll change it. I forgot to ask the person who suggested Aileron in the first place if it was cool with him/her, but I figured it wouldn't be much of a problem.

Relax LW, I was just messing with ya. Although I am slightly crushed that the name of the ISO in Icon's project is not being called Aileron, I can deal. Feel free to use the name in your project. Sorry boss, when I ran the names past Lesley (my co-everything on the project) she pointed out that Niko works best with the aesthetic and evolving mythology of our characters, which pretty much clinched it for me as well. Aileron is pretty badass, though, so I'm glad that LWS is giving it some love.

If it makes you feel better, your name suggestion inspired the opening action sequence for the film, and it's going to ROCK.

Also, RenegadeProgram, the camera we're using is the Canon Vixia HF100. http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/canon-vixia-hf100/4505-6500_7-32786395.htmlon line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

Just to tease what you'll be seeing production stills of next, I am, as I type, digitally recreating a close variation of this set

to be totally ruined in the second phase of of Niko's battle with Kadij. Main difference? The bar at the back will have a window behind it that someone (or someones) will be crashing through.

I am really going to have to upgrade my computer for all the physics simulations... so far, it's looking like there are going to be some 220+ objects bouncing around as stuff is destroyed...

Probably in March, maybe sooner depending on how I feel like doing a trailer. If it's just CG, maybe a beauty shot of the characters, then sooner, but that's kind of a cop-out.

What you WILL see--next week--is Lesley and I in action, showcasing a sample of the fight choreography that you're going to see in the flick, as well as a bit of discussion about the characters, and a special episode of my podcast, Bent, at http://bentthepodcast.com, solely a roundtable review of Tron: Legacy between Lesley and myself that gives you a better idea of what we loved and hated and what will be pulled from T:L for Morphology.

EDIT: Also wanted to share, I started the P90X regimen this weekend as training for the flick and oh my God I don't know how people do it all the time. I'm sure I'll get into it but man... it's tough when you're starting out.

i don't mean to drop in here and crap in your pool but i have a bit of advice for the project.

you have everything more than well laid out but there's one shortcoming that might give you a world of grief: your camera.

AVCHD is a notorious pain in the ass for cs3. you're going to have to transcode the footage into a codec that will be much easier to edit, chromakey, and color correct.

mainly avchd as a codec wasn't introduced until cs4 and even then it's a monumental pain to work in. (like getting 2 frames per second.) you'll basically tear your own hair out with how slow it is to work with. it's high quality but it bogs the cpu down trying to decode it in real time.

you're best bet is to convert the footage to something easier like h.264, quicktime files using animation preset at high quality or even uncompressed .avi which will soak up hard drive like nuts but a completely lossless conversion.

and sadly it's not even the only issue.

the camera just isn't made for this kind of work.

you need complete manual control out of it. no zooming, a real report of your focal length (50mm, 85mm, etc.) and a report of your sensor size to properly line up your rendered scenes with your footage.

i'd highly recommend Mark Christiansen's after effects cs3 compositing book, which at this point could probably be found dirt cheap used on amazon.

being a creepy infowhore i went and looked up the manual to the camera to give you the best settings to use while trying to capture footage for this film.

you want the recording quality at FXP giving you the highest detail, that'll record at a full 1920X1080, where the other modes record at 1440x1080 meaning you'd have to work your footage at a pixel aspect of 1.5 but your 3d work would be square.
(1.0) just use FXP and both will always match up without dealing with any headaches.

use 24P and 1/60 shutter speed for most scenes and a higher shutter for action scenes.
for the amount of keying work this is going to require it's best to get as much motion blur removed from your footage. (it's shutter-priority mode)

in fact i'd recommend 30P for any action scenes you wish to slow down a bit with speed ramping.

avoid cinema mode in the camera like the plague. it's unnaturally bumps up color saturation and contrast, which makes it very easy to blow out the brights and generally makes your footage extremely tough to color correct in post.

white balance manually each time you set up a new scene, changing the lights around on a new setup can change the color. just use a nice piece of office paper or cardstock to balance off of and it will save you a ton of trouble while editing.

so to condense my ramble down:

FXP quality, 24p, 1/60 shutter for most scenes, higher for action. AVOID cinema mode.
manual focus, manual exposure, manual white balance, turn off all image effects,

i know this seems like a rather chunky bombdrop in here but i come from the vfx world and i'd just like your project to be as pain free and enjoyable for you.

Dude, that's almost the complete opposite of crapping in my pool. That's like pointing out a floating turd so I don't dive into it face-first.

Transcoding it is an excellent idea. I have yet to work with AVCHD, and that's a bullet I'd like to dodge if I can.

All in all, I really appreciate your thoughts, and the time you took to write that out.

About the book -- I've seen a couple by Christiansen specifically about compositing in CS4, but only one for CS3, Professional Studio Techniques. Is that the one you're referring to?where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

yeah, well that's actually quite toned down for how i actually speak.
in reality i'm quite a gross creature verbally.

yeah the compositing in after effects book was the first book i owned for getting into this field. also the dv rebel's guide was monumental for learning vfx "tricks" as well.
once you have a few math tricks down and take notes, the rest becomes easier.

i practically spend half my waking day cramming more books, tutorials, etc. in some OCD race to become a one man fx shop.

but basically you can ask me anything, and i'll try to help to the best of my ability.

Fantastic weekend here, everybody! We have choreography locked down for about 3/4 of the movie, the script is getting tighter by the day, Kadij's makeup is decided, and Niko's costume has been figured out--finally. Some photography for the short stories has been completed, and storyboarding has started on the big VFX sequences.

We've also decided to add a little bit more depth to the movie itself--it was originally going to be solely an action piece, almost without dialogue, but we're adding a couple of characters and extras to flesh out what's going on and how it's all tying into the mythology of Tron and, indeed, into the rest of the story we've created for Niko and Kadij. Expect an appearance from a couple somebodies we've seen in Tron before, as well as some generic bad guys to get derezzed. All things we had no plans to do, but as we learn a bit more about the tech we're going to be using and get things taken care of well in advance of the shooting date, we can afford to do a little more.

Also, we're pushing the shoot date back to mid-March in order to get the choreography much tighter and give us time to make slightly more elaborate costumes. Might push the release date back, but it'll also give us time to polish the digital sets more and generally make things better across the board.

I'll post some video from our preproduction meetings this week so you can meet myself and Lesley and get a sense of the mood on this show. We're having a ton of fun doing it and I think it'll show.

Oh, and we're getting access to a more production-level camera. Thank goodness. More on this later, and look for a longer blog post from me including some video and shiny renders at http://spillwaybrain.wordpress.com later this week!

BinaryZero, I wanted to thank you again for your advice and support. Hey everybody!

So here's what you didn't get last week that I promised:
-the first short story
-the footage Lesley and I shot last weekend
-the photos of Lesley in her Kadij makeup

Here's why:
-school overload
-I needed to shoot some bookends and interstitials to tie the footage together and I was horribly ill
-the photos are hella low-quality because my still camera is fubared; fortunately will have access to a sexy DSLR from here on in for stills.

Here's what you get instead:
-a new blog post with the first bit of video test-rendering I've done
-a bit more insight into how the design process works

And I'll post some still renders here of what I've been working on the last couple of days, aka the light jet, once I've refined it a little more.

Also, BinaryZero, just got Mark Christiansen's After Effects book in the mail from Amazon -- holy crap is it awesome. Great suggestion! I love all you guys!

EDIT: You also get some prose poetry I've written over the last little while if you keep reading down the blog, just so you get the idea that I can actually write and this might not be total dross after all :Pwhere to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online
