Hey programs!

Just wanted to give you guys a heads-up that there's some cool stuff happening soon with a short fan film currently in pre-production.

Set after the creation of the second Grid by Kevin Flynn, Morphology follows one of Clu 2's prototypical Black Guards called Kadij as she pursues a fleeing isomorph.

Some dates to keep in mind for this short:

Edit (May 10): As you can see, there's some pushing-back of dates happening to accommodate things like life, school, dating, etc.

Casting is done, crew is tentatively assembled, design is largely complete, and most of the core CGI is laid down. Choreography is probably about 35% done. Script is fairly short, and just about locked. The weekend of the 28th will see the script locked.

EDIT: Just realized I didn't actually give you any kind of release info :P I expect the film to be locked and online in April if not earlier. The post-production is going to take some time, just by virtue of the types of stunts and CGI we're doing.

I'm looking for interesting ideas for the name for the lead Isomorph. I had an absolutely amazing name that started with A a little while ago, ran it past my codirector, and then promptly forgot what the hell it was. So I need a new name, preferably with some interesting meaning behind it. For example, the main antagonist of the piece is essentially an early prototype of Clu's Black Guard. Kadij is a derivation of the name Kadija, which means "prematurely born."

Any and all feedback from you guys and gals is seriously invited. Of everywhere I've looked online I think Tron really belongs to tron-sector, so I want to do right by the community here. So, if you have ideas--shoot! As the project develops you'll see more and more go up on Spillway so please give me your thoughts and impressions.

I'll throw up a more detailed plot synopsis there soon, so if you have specific thoughts it would be great to hear them.

I think we've got a pretty solid opening scripted at this point, but I'd still love to see it. Maybe hold your iPad up to a webcam?

Anyways, there's some more production news up on the spillway for you guys to peruse. The project's moving right along, and I'm going to try to get Lesley, who's my co-director and who will be playing Kadij, to write up something about the choreography R&D that she's doing. to give you a sample:

There are always problems that arise when it comes to doing any film project, let alone one as effects-heavy as Morphology will be. Especially things like combining live-action with CGI in the same character, as we'll be doing with Kadij. You've already seen her final draft, but there's more to Kadij than just the helmet prop. I'm not even talking about the glowy Tron-bits on her. She's going to have an articulated set of wings, based loosely on the set that Sam used to base-jump to freedom with and that these guys glided around on..

Hey everyone! A few quick updates on the project.

1) The ISO's name is now Niko. LWSRocks, you've won something for that suggestion. I will figure out what that is in the near future :P
2) The ISO is not exactly an ISO.
3) What the hell that means precisely will be explained in a series of short stories, and Lesley and I are deciding whether to release those before we launch the film or after.
4) Kadij is no longer just a program. Similarly, this will be explained in fanfic form and will most definitely be released before the film's done.
5) I'm putting the call out to anyone who plays Tron: Evolution, Tron 2.0, or Killer App to help with the design process. (Also if you've only seen the movies I want your input too.) What is your favourite level/map/area? What's the coolest Tron environment you've seen thus far? What environment would you most like to see get f'ed up in a big way in the film? If you have screenshots, that would be much appreciated; if not, I'll be able to hunt them down. And now that I've decided to start giving away prizes to people who suggest stuff I like apparently you're entering to win

Should have some more renders/artwork, and maybe some more character news, tonight or tomorrow for you guys to enjoy.
