Does anyone here meditate, or anything similar? I think I'm going to need to try it...

I have before. I actually may try a few new things next time. Unfortunately I'm not very disciplined so nearly half the time I fall asleep and the other half I'm too hyped up to relax.

I don't formally meditate, but I do drop into something I call The Zone; usually when I am immersed for more than a couple of hours in a creative project of some sort. I love The Zone. Feels like I am rezzed up to a whole new level, and it doesn't take drugs or weird chanting to get there. It's like my brain just kind of settles in to this cruise mode, and my breathing slows and everything starts to feel more immediate, more tangible.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlinewhere to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Yes I meditate usually once a day if not more.
I have been in appreciation of many forms of Buddhism and
Jainism since high-school. I mostly observe Shinto and Zen
practices in my daily life. I am also a big fan of Castaneda's
writings as well.
My wife has been geting into the basics of eastern philosophy
for about 2.5 years. She was pleasantly surprised to see the
same kind of meditation cushion she has in Kevin Flynn's
hideaway.

I used to dabble in it, but I freaked myself whenever 'weird' stuff started to happen, thinking some kind of astral-projection thing was about to happen, weird head vibrations, sounds etc. Whenever I got those sensations, my anxiety levels (whether positive or negative) would stir up, and kick me out of whatever trancey type of thing I was in.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

i do it in my shower.
it's a concentration and listening exercise for me and really calms me down.
i make sure my head is inside the cone of water and i focus on either hearing only the water, or tuning it completely out and listening to the rest of the house/outside.
you can also fine tune it to a very small target area, and practice listening in specific directions.
practicing it helps me immensely on noisy film sets, workshops, nightclubs, and audio mixing.abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

I've tried, but I can't seem to quiet my mind enough to really concentrate.

I don't necessarily formally mediate. I run a lot / working out. Which can really put me in what I call my, "Zen Place." Sometimes I can feel like I'm running on air. I can get in the Zen at the gym too on the Machines. Although, with my workout style Zen, I tend to daydream a lot, so that's not per say a cleared mind state. It was kinda cool the other day though, I was on the ET Machine, while "Finale" from the soundtrack was playing. I kinda felt like Quorra LOL. (Except not leaning/hugging on Sam and it was sunset not sunrise.) But that's just details I guess. LOL I used to swim more which could be like Zen too. Being around water can get me Zenned if I'm able to have the safety to zone out. I sometimes do the shower Zen Out too. The right music, if I'm in the mode to zone can relax me. I've been listening to a lot of techo/ambient lately.
Outside of that. I could stand to do some more formal mediation type stuff. I have a mind that tends to go all over the place like hyper drive. LOL Could do me some good to get more meditative. I have some Bodding Balls, Chinese Medicine balls. I sometimes use them before going to sleep, along with deep breathing and some stretching.

i have a zen thing of sorts but it's more of an ability really: Patience. Not many have, lots give in & give up, others fail miserably. I on the other hand relate to how kevin flynn told sam in the film, "we wait"
Good things come to those who wait; patience is a virtue.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

It's good to see quite a few of you do, or at least something similar. I find it very difficult to clear my mind, and I daydream a lot too, but "knocking on the sky and listening to the sound" sounds so appealing.
So, what is Flynn's meditation cushion called? If it has a particular name...
And what websites would you recommend to break me in?
I like the thought of shutting out sounds, which would help at work, or focussing on one sound. One night I woke up far too early, and I heard the birds, and because of my recent love for birds, I spent some time just listening to them... It was wonderful. I did the same thing once when walking somewhere. I managed to pick up all the birds, but have always been in such a rush otherwise.
I would actually like to be able to fall asleep through meditation, at night anyway, and I'd welcome strange happenings.
I am always stressed, worried, nervous, anxious, or in a rush to or at work, and have 'severe depression' so I think it is something worth taking seriously.
How often do you think is reasonable to meditate?
I think I'd like to get to bed earlier, meditate to sleep, get up earlier and meditate before starting the day, so I'm calm and ready instead of in a huge rush, and meditate during my breaks at work, in hope it may help me get through the day.
I admire Flynn. I, too, can see his reasoning for waiting. Why rush head-first into everything? Why rush anything? I'd like to learn to take it easy... (Man) where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

As a set the cushion and pad are called a Zafu and Zabuton respectively.
There are tons of material out there on meditation and self improvement.
I am sure a local library would have many good boks to get you started
with.

I meditate to pass time, as i honestly have to much time to spend, and occasionally do it concentrate on completing an idea, or problem, so on.
As far as method goes, i generally over focus on individual senses, progressively fading them out. Meditation is OK, its definitely depended on person.

Lots of responses. One thing I like to try is to close my eyes and imagine drifting through space. It was a nice start, but I'm always in a rush or busy... so i need to actually make the time to stop for long enough.
I like the sound of those cushions, though I could probably make something similar myself.
This is something I really want to do, and i like the sound of all your other methods.
As for the upside down on the couch - I don't think that's weird. This is a wonderful thread.
I meditate fairly regularly to help keep my stress at bay. I own a film production company here in Austin, Tx, and when juggling the responsibilities of maintaining it, and staying on top of the world with freelance filmwork, it's stressful. Also, just working in film in general is stressful.
Just about a 15 minute period is all I can squeeze time in for, but I revisit my most tranquil place in my mind, and let nothing else take me away from it.
Lately...a few tracks from the Tron Legacy soundtrack have helped me get there more easily, actually. "You're messing with my zen thing, man!" |
