Looking back at that scene, the bombs are set, but we don't see the explosion until CLU and gang are on their recognizers leaving.

I estimate it took CLU and company like 1 minute or two to get to their transport, so I think they had enough time to escape.

CLU was smart, CLU wanted them both dead, but if they ended up surviving, CLU also destroyed their livelihood, which is the Club.

I think Castor and Gem are gone, unfortunately. Yeah, we could hypothetically devise some theoretical way he survived or escaped, but the movie scene cuts are meant to tell us he's gone. Through the timing of the film cuts, I don't think we're meant to believe anything other than them being gone.

The film cuts are similar to Sam going into Flynn's arcade. He's downstairs, music playing... then camera cuts to him upstairs by that handheld game, but the music doesnt chop up. We're just supposed to accept. Then back downstairs with the music not cutting. Then goes through a network of tunnels to get to the secret area. But when zapped to the digital world, he busts open the door and is instantaneously on the street without going through all the tunnels and main arcade room area. Fancy film cuts, and we're just supposed to accept nothing happened and no time passed between those cuts. Similar to Castor/Gem, imo. We're just supposed to accept the timing of the cuts and accept they are gone.

At least when Flynn 'dies' at the end of T:L, we're given a shred of hope he's still alive (Sam downloading the grid; Kevin's disc being used to get out of the grid; etc.). Or when Rinzler/Tron 'dies', he turns to blue.

But with Castor/Gem, there's no similar straw given to us for us to grasp onto. There's no scene showing Castor and Gem hiding in some cubby-hole, or rocketing down a chute. To try to bring them back in Tron 3 through some magnificent escape would seem fanfic-ish to me.
