RE: Custom Tron Legacy Figure Resource

Last night I finished fooling around with my green Sam Flynn. I originally wanted to find him a different head, but I settled with just changing the color on his face-shield and call it a day.

The tricky part is that the material doesn’t accept the coloring too well, since the plastic is way too smooth for the paint to adhere to. I decided on applying a coat of matte spray to the inside, so the color would have something to cling on.

I started by masking the outer side to avoid getting matte varnish on it, as it would pretty much ruin the look of the piece.

Using spray cans on such small pieces can be rather messy, so I attached the masked piece to a plastic stick to facilitate handling.

When the varnish dried completely, I applied a coat of diluted green glaze, as evenly as I could with a brush. Once that was also dry, I sealed the interior with transparent acrylic.

The end result:

Thank you, Abraxas. He does light up green

The method used was pretty much the same as the visor, only this didn't require the matte prep on the inner surface. The Sam figure has an almost colorless torso piece, and the inner surface is rugged to better disperse the light. All I did was apply coat after coat of green glaze until the hue was to my liking.

And yes, the color is applied from the inside. This figure kind of dismantled on me when I pulled it out of the Lightrunner seat, so I made the most out of the situation.

@ BobaFetuccini: I used Games Workshop/Citadel's Green Glaze. From what I hear Tamiya clear is also a good option.

@ Abraxas: I did not mess with the electronics on my figure at all, just applied the glaze to the inside of the torso.

My figure pretty much came apart on it's own, but I guess all of them could be opened by applying leverage at the shoulder/hip sockets. Avoid exerting pressure on the head though, as the neck ball isn't really engineered to withstand too much mechanical force. where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Would that glaze work for a Rinzler/Tron? Anybody know of a robed Star Wars figure that might make a good base for a robed Clu?

The LED in a Rinzler is orange, and so is the plastic. No amount of glaze will make it possible to do a Tron like that.

There aren't really any Star Wars characters with robes of that nature. He kinda has a unique robe that doesn't have any opening in the front or seams. I've considered just making a cloth pull-over with some fabric paint circuitry.

He's got a hood, but I've never seen a Zartan with a full-on robe before.

Here's my near complete Clu using the Gi Joe Chuckles head Mr.Sci-Fi posted on page 7. I resculpted the hair to the best of my ability, but it's tough working in such a small scale. I know the hair is too dark, but I don't have any light brown paint at the moment. When I have a chance to goto the hobby shop I'll fix the color.

That looks awesome! There's some great info in this thread, thanks for posting your customs. I'm going to likely take a stab at making a few of these to fill out the line, so I'm glad that there is some good info out there.

I hope someone is able to make a redeemed Rinzler

I don't know why the first picture is messed up but you can see it in the proper ratio by viewing it in a new tab.

Yeah it ended up a little bigger than I would have liked, but like I said it's a tough scale to work in. I might try to sand it down a bit before I fix the hair color, but I probably won't be able to take much off without losing the hair style.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

I spent the evening recoloring my Clu to a warmer yellow hue so now the lines match the color used in the display base. I will be leaving the sword as it is, though.

I could've sworn his circuitry was white in Legacy, just like Sam.

Well first of all you are watching a washed out bootleg cam that has been uploaded to youtube of a scene that has been obscured to look like a flashback. When Rinzler falls into the sea of simulation his circuitry is a light blue glow. I've had the same debate about Sam's circuits numerous times as they do appear more white in most scenes than others, as does Quorra's but I'm pretty sure it's just a very very light blue as well, otherwise why are all of the toys and posters blue? Besides, Tron was blue in the first film so...

btw - I found the perfect Anakin head to use for Sam at Target. It's the one that comes in the Geonosis 2-pack with the battle droid. Much better than the kid-looking vintage Tatooine farmer Anakin.

Which shade and brand of paint are you using? I picked up some Testors model masters yellow insignia that I'm going to use to repaint a light jet.

Ooh! I hope that goes well for you! We could certainly use some more bodies.

Also, do you have a resource showing you how to do that? I finished a helmet sculpt that I'd like to double-up as a keychain, and I don't want to keep sculpting em individually.

I ran into an unexpected problem when trying to do my helmetless Tron. I hadn't realized that Rinzler's neck is leaning forward, which results in head transplants looking down. I tried a GI Joe head and a Star Wars head and both are stuck looking at the ground. I know I've seen people with helmetless Tron's that look straight ahead, so did you do anything special or just get lucky with a head that happens to sit on the body properly?
