True Grit has been getting FANTASTIC reviews. It may not open big, but it'll easily play long.

True, but the star power of pretty much everyone in Little Fockers (especially Ben Stiller) has fallen a great deal since the last movie. AND it was quite a while ago that Meet the Fockers came out. Plus, it doesn't seem audiences reacted as favorably to Meet the Fockers (63% like on Flixter) as Meet the Parents (79%) and a lot of it's box office can probably be attributed to the success and enjoyment of the first movie. Little Fockers is coming along 6 years later after a movie that got a so-so reception, even though it made money. I don't know, I think it's far from a sure thing. I feel like the buzz for it has been pretty quiet.
Gulliver's travels is postponed to a Christmas release, which makes me think the studio is a little worried about it. It looks horrible, but who knows maybe SOMEONE will want to see it. It'll be an interesting week to be sure.
Personally, I'll definitely catch True Grit at some point. I'll always show up for a Coen Bros. movie, even a western! But it does seem like a niche movie.

Seriously, Programs, I was completely blown away by this movie. If you haven't seen it yet, you have to get out and see it in IMAX if possible. It was absolutely amazing.
Keep in mind this is coming from a long time fan. I saw the original TRON in the theater in 1982 at 15 years old and it has been my favorite movie of all time. I have worked in the field of computers doing everything from hardware maintenance to programming to database administration for the last 17 years because of the original (and it was my hobby for the years in-between) so, yes, it was a major motivating factor for me.
But this movie brought me to tears several times and my heart was just pounding from the time Sam entered the arena until the end of the movie. It was amazing. It was incredible. I will never forget it.

I will say this....I feel Damn proud and happy. I had an accident in 2001 and nearly died, so I am feeling so fortunate that I got to see the sequel. I am also a bit melancholy because TRON was one of the first non-rated G movies I got to see with my father and while I don't know if he would be enthusiastic about TRON Legacy, I am sorry he passed away before it screened. |
glad you got to see it too man,. Sorry to hear what happened with your accident. Its good to see how much impact Tron has on others, through better and for worse.
Sorry about your fathers passing.....

Thank you Beef....Though both incidents were a long time ago, it still has a psychological effect on you. I am not gonna think about a bucket list but this is definately something I am glad I did. That and going to the Science fair on the mall and seeing the Lightcycle and Shiva laser props up close. |
Anytime man. Seeing the lightcycle(SDCC) and shiver at Flynn's/EOLC was amazing. Being close to the shiva made me want to get sucked into the computer world lol

The funny thing about that day in on the Mall was all the science fair booths and corporations there. After I saw the Tron Legacy props I almost quite literally ran into the Lawrence Livermore booth and started talking with a scientist about TRON. He didn't know Disney had brought the props to the Mall but he knew the first movie full well. He was an entry level engineer working on the real SHIVA laser and he remembers the days they shot the scenes there and how fun it was to be part of that atmosphere. Just in case anyone cares:
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=weekend&id=tron2.htm
TRON Legacy topped $44 million US in domestic ticket sales for the opening weekend.
No other movie even came close.
I am so curious to see what this week's numbers look like, and what the following weekend brings?
Bridges will be competing with himself when the remake of TRUE GRIT hits theaters this weekend. It remains to be seen whether or not Bridges as Rooster Cogburn can draw more box office than Bridges as Kevin Flynn.
In a perfect world, one imagines a Bridges tornado where people seeing the one movie turn around and see the other, just for Jeff's sake. Would fans of Westerns go for TRON, and vice versa? Maybe.
I also see True Grit as the only real threat to Tron's #1 spot for this weekend. Fockers? That smells like a dying franchise to me. They're reaching. I can't see it doing better than either True Grit or Tron. We'll just have to see what Christmas audiences are up for.
I have no idea what to make of Gulliver's Travels. Jack Black is not a guaranteed box office draw, and Gulliver's has gotten precious little PR in my part of the US. If it's well done it may be a sleeper hit, but if it's ad-lib humor relying on Black's zany persona to carry a weak outing, True Grit and Tron should both derez it. |

Yes -- it's very good... what would've been an issue is if it had opened like "How Do You Know" -- that stars Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson -- cost $120 mil to make -- and only made $12 mil this past opening weekend... major bomb.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online Castor from TRON: LEGACY - "Change the scheme..! That does seem really good. It'd be nice if it could maintain that for the next couple of days leading into bigger grosses for next weekend.

I was a bit surprised it didn't make more. Look at the movies that made under 50 million on opening weekend. http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/?pagenum=m4050&p=.htm Not exactly the greatest movies of all time. Tron doesn't have a lot of competition, except maybe True Grit. Hopefully, it'll pull in enough to get Disney to make a sequel. It's got to make more than 300 million before Disney makes a profit. And half of the box office sales goes to the theaters.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online Jet Lives! |

Many of those are franchise films Darth -- either were tie-tins to popular and recent movies. video-games, or were mass audience animation fare -- and "The Fellowship of the Ring" had a huge following with Tolkien's books -- TRON: LEGACY is basically a "baby" in all of this -- many persons haven't seen the original TRON or know what it's about -- or it confused them, etc., etc. -- and half of the box office does not go to theatres as you said. Also, the budget on TRON: LEGACY was $170 mil -- not $300 mil.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion Castor from TRON: LEGACY - "Change the scheme..! Also, it's best to only compare to movies that opened on a similar weekend. The thing is, the weekend that Tron opened on is good and bad. It's bad in that you don't often get huge opening weekend because people are travelling for the holidays. It's good in that you've got the holiday period to make money in so usually movies make more through the week than it normally would.
If you just look at December:
http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/month/?mo=12&p=.htm
You'll see that Tron has done amazingly well. Avatar is the only movie that's not based on a an existing property or a sequel above Tron. Now, yes, Tron is technically a sequel. But it's been so long that it really only probably gets a small lift from hardcore fans and nostalgia.
Also, you'll notice that no film in recent memory that has opened in the 40m range has made less than 200m total gross. This is VERY good news. If the film can reach 200m in the states then the film should be profitable when you add in the foreign gross too. (if you figure that production plus marketing was about 300m total.)
This should be enough to get a sequel. Even if Disney doesn't make a ton of movie off of the movie alone, once you factor in the merchandise and DVD/Blu-Ray sales they will make money. And it'll be a good foundation to make even more money on a sequel.

Fact is, the numbers at this point mean nothing. Movies that have done similarly and released at a comparable time have soared while other movies in the same position have tanked. Positive or negative, it's all just speculation right now. Give it awhile then revisit the numbers. That's when it will mean something.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Well they don't mean 'nothing' - if it'd had a bad opening weekend or a bad Monday it'd be bad news. So it's looking up - but yes, anything can happen.

True. When I say "nothing", that in itself is hyperbolic. If the movie had done 200 million (or 2 million) for an opening weekend, we would have our answer now (positive or negative). But since the numbers are relatively neutral, they're just not definitive enough to predict the overall outcome.
In a similar vein, I'm sad to see that the new Narnia movie has been met with such poor reception and low figures. I enjoyed the first two.
