Waiting for Germany actuals. France get on the grid 2/09/2011. I wish I could talk to the Disney people. They really don't know how well they've done. People would make fun of the original, now here we are. On our way to 400 Million and above. Damn bean counters. They couild make a sequel for 120 Million, with advertising, and bring in the same. Come on Disney, let's do this.

"Consider, for example, Touchstone's Gone in 60 Seconds, which had a $242 million box-office gross. From this impressive haul, the theaters kept $129.8 million and remitted the balance to Disney's distribution arm, Buena Vista. After paying mandatory trade dues to the MPAA, Buena Vista was left with $101.6 million. From this amount, it repaid the marketing expenses that had been advanced—$13 million for prints so the film could open in thousands of theatres; $10.2 million for the insurance, local taxes, custom clearances, and other logistical expenses; and $67.4 million for advertising. What remained of the nearly quarter-billion-dollar "gross" was a paltry $11 million. (And that figure does not account for the $103.3 million that Disney had paid to make the movie in the first place.) "order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

Ouchie. But if that math were always true, how in the world could movies like Ghost Rider get a sequel? "You're messing with my zen thing, man!" |

I suspect that the math is more or less always true. But if you read the entirety of the article, you see an important qualifier. Very little of a modern films revenue comes from the box office. Video sales and rentals are a huge part, not to mention every other aspect of licensing.
Legacy does not need to make it's money back in the box office to be a success. But people have a tendency to obsess over these numbers because our culture has made sure to hype them as if they were the points scored by a sports team. The real economy of the entertainment industry is vast and complex, and largely invisible to the public.

"Movie Ticket Sales Surpass DVD Revenue
The digital age was supposed to destroy the movie theater business. Why drive to a multiplex and stand in line to buy four $9 tickets when it's easier, and perhaps cheaper, to buy a $29 DVD and watch it at home. The DVD is the gift that keeps on giving because it can be watched endlessly if a consumer is so inclined.
But for the first time since 2002, movie ticket sales have surpassed DVD revenue. According to data from Adams Media Research reported in The Wall Street Journal, "Americans spent $9.87 billion at the box office in 2009, 10% more than in 2008." Meanwhile, DVD sales fell 13% to $8.73 billion."

I keep trying to find a site that I can track DVD revenue at. Anyone got a recommendation?

Yes, but the reason the theatrical sales figures have taken the lead is because the DVD sales figures have dropped (according to your source) 13%. In terms of recovering costs for producing a film, this is bad news. Theater sales increasing 10% while DVD sales drop 13% is a loss. You want to see those sales grow, not shrink. And there is a potentially higher profit margin in those sales then there is in theatrical revenue.

How much did Germany open at?
Domestically we are at 163.7 million, we could get to 170 by the end of the run hopefully. Oh and worldwide total is currently at 344 million.

Yep - this is dead on. Countless theories and speculation are just that: countless theories and speculation -- "I think" or "it might" etc. definitely don't gel -- especially if one is unfamiliar or inexperienced with the actual workings of the biz. on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online Castor from TRON: LEGACY - "Change the scheme..! I'm going to go see it again this weekend (Screening number 4 for me) to help do my small part in getting it over that 170 million mark.
Maybe we should all go see it one more time, maybe this weekend, before it finishes its theatrical run, just to give it a little bump.
I really wish there was some way we could get the word out to fans nationwide, where we could have another informal designated "TRON Night" again, and push it back up to number one, even if only for a day! That would be awesome! KInd of like a flash mob in a way, but just enjoy the movie on the big screen one more time before its gone. Think of the news and headlines that would generate: "TRON: Legacy hits number one at the box office 6 weeks after opening!"
