Can't wait to see the numbers from Germany and France. The French are a bit upset with having to wait so long. The original release date was set for January. Daft Punk will be a big draw for the French. As for the Germans, they love new and inovative ideas and technologies. The shear scope and fantastic 3D world should give us some strong numbers. Hello 355 Million.

I am wondering if Yogi Bear got a bit of a bump from moving into second run theaters. I noticed it is entirely gone from the first run theaters here and a lot of the cheap seat theaters have a 3D screen now. It makes me wonder if Tron will experience a slight domestic bump when it hits the cheap seats as well. I wonder if there are lot of people who want to take their whole family to see it but can't swing it in their budget until it hits the second run theaters. If you tried to take a family with more than a few kids it can be a pricey endeavor. If a movie is popular enough it could stay at a second run theater all the way up to the home video release. Not sure if this theory is sound but I wouldn't be surprised if that is what gave Yogi Bear a boost. People weren't paying as much for a ticket but more people could afford to go see it and take their kids. I know that a lot of times if there is a movie I kind of want to see and it is has been in the first run theater for more than six weeks, I will hold out until it moves over to the cheap seats. I suppose it is possible that its second run theater stint could cause it to break the $200 million mark by slowly crawling there over a period of a couple more months.

With TR3N being green-lit, I am going to back off on bird-dogging the box office totals. I am quite certain TRON Legacy will pass $350,000,000 world-wide by the end of January. I also believe that the total box office could reach as high as $400,000,000 by the time the movie leaves the theaters. But the main reason I hawked the revenue was to see if Legacy could pull enough money in to justify an additional film, which it essentially has. Well done, and I can't wait to see what they do with TR3N.

from variety.com

Paramount's "No Strings Attached," a comedy about two friends who become unlikely lovers, brought in about $7.3 million in 5,018 runs on Friday.

Following it in the No. 2 position was Sony's "The Green Hornet," which earned about $5.1 million in 3,584 engagements. Universal's "The Dilemma" took in about $3 million in 2,943 runs. "The King's Speech" made roughly $2.1 million in 1,680 engagements. Paramount's "True Grit" rounded out the top five with about $2 million in 3,464 runs.

Fox Searchlight's "Black Swan" took in about $1.8 million in 2,407 engagements. It was a toss-up for the No. 7 and 8 positions; Paramount's "The Fighter" (2,275 engagements) and Universal's "Little Fockers" (2,979 runs) both earned about $1.2 million.

Two 3D pics completed the top 10; Disney's "Tron: Legacy" collected about $928,000 in 2,018 engagements, and Warner Bros. "Yogi Bear" earned about $753,000 in 2,510 runs.

Box Office Mojo is saying that Legacy made an estimated 3 million this weekend. The estimated domestic total is 163 million now. Worldwide is 333 million. All we need now is at least 7 million more domestic and we balanced our budget here!

I wonder when they will update the foreign totals...

I do wonder what will happen once Tron: Legacy hits the 2nd run theaters. Yogi Bear has been in second run here for almost two weeks now, but in most places T:L is still in the 1st run theaters. I'm wondering if it can squeeze another 20 million from a month at the cheap seats.

I think it's going to be tough to get much beyond $170m, even after this weekend. That being said, I'm very happy with how it's done.

But here's my two cents:

Dec 17–23 1 $68,222,205
Dec 24–30 3 $44,325,666
Dec 31–Jan 6 3 $25,574,547
Jan 7–13 4 $13,116,178
Jan 14–20 7 $8,320,894

At it's current rate of progression, with it making an est $3.7m this weekend, it'll probably make about 1.5 million tops during the week, and probably about 2 million next weekend. That would bring it up to 166.7 million by the end of next week. And it'll only get tougher after that to reach 170m, because each week it'll only make less. It's actually going to be a tough haul to get to 170m, and dollar theaters don't add much. I do think it'll make 170m, but I kinda think it'll end about there. I'd be very happy to see this proven FALSE, however.

I'm still really rooting for the movie in the foreign markets, esp. since there are several territories where it has yet to open.

Is there any place I can check online to see how it's doing in China? BoxOfficeMojo doesn't include the Chinese grosses...

I got curious what hitting the cheap seats theater did for Yogi Bear. I don't know if this will apply to Tron or not but I'm hoping it does. While they aren't the same type of movie, they are both rated PG and were presented in 3D

Yogi Bear's weeks:

Dec. 17-23 $28,014,839
Dec. 24-30 $25,355,497
Dec. 31-Jan. 6 $15,425,185
Jan.7-13 $7,954,551
Jan.14-20 $8,080,131

The last week was its first week at the cheap seats and it got a bit of a bump and its decline stabilized. Yogi Bear probably sold way more tickets than Tron but moviegoers probably spent half what it would have cost to see Tron, because Tron is still at the first run theaters. I don't know how much longer Tron has before it moves but I'm guessing what it hits the cheap seats it may have several more weekends of three to five million dollars before it is done. My guess is it will sit at the second run theaters until it comes out on home video. I could be totally wrong with how I'm looking at this though. I guess it depends on how many larger families have waited for it to be less expensive to go and how many people have waited to see it a second or third time when they could go for less money.

Budget's already been balanced. Production costs were 170mil and marketing is estimated at 120mil.

That's ignoring the fact that Disney only see part of the gross.

From what I've read, and I forget where I read it (oops!), Disney has a rather large stranglehold on it's theatrical revenue, where they make almost all of what is shown in theatrical grosses, leaving most of the theater's revenue up to the concessions.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Interesting. What incentive do venues have to go along with it?

I suppose it's that you're slitting your own throat with families if you don't show the latest Disney film. You'd sacrifice snack sales and any chance families will visit your venue to see a non-Disney film in the future.

Don't doubt it. Most people think gas stations make a large percentage per gallon sold. It's actually only pennies per gallon. Theaters love big movies like Tron: Legacy. I've spent about 300 bucks so far, with half of that goint to popcorn, sodas, and goobers to put IN the popcorn.

I always thought this was true, hence the high price of popcorn, etc. in theatres. Still, the accountancy in Hollywood is notoriously slippery, so who knows what the bottom line on the film really is.

FWIW, I thought Tangled was another great Disney film this season, so hopefully Disney are overall pleased with their U.S. summer ROI. (Tangled's budget isn't nearly as big as what is claimed.)

I meant that we might earn the 170 million production budget back domestically, sorry 'bout that.

Yes, theaters generally charge those crazy prices on concessions because that is where they make the bulk of their revenue. Second when it comes to Disney, they are definately not immune to the slippery accounting of Hollywood, however they have a slight leg up on the other major mopic studios. They generally have full distro rights overseas and not just Domestically. So in the math game that means that their overseas profits are not being split amongst other distributor studios and they get all of the money from international releases. That is quite a revenue stream when you think about it.

It looks like with Monday's totals it has pulled ahead of Little Fockers. It should stay in the top 10 this weekend if LF stays behind it. I'm thinking $180 million domestic is within the realm of possibility.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill
