TRON: LEGACY's box office take for its U.S. opening weekend is $43.6 million -- a good, solid opening (especially given that it doesn't have a wildly popular book series franchise and/or the like to tie-in to) -- I'd predicted circa $40 mil about a month ago. LOL... that Reuters article author saying that TRON: LEGACY was "trashed" by critics is completely inaccurate -- some liked it, some didn't... pretty much the story with most movies that come out for that matter -- TL's gross is right on track for where it should be.

Everyone else who saw the movie in 1982 had to wait 28 years. I was 10 when I saw it in 1992 and had to wait 18 years. X_x

I think TL has a good chance to have a strong Xmas weekend, because look at what's coming out:

Little Fockers: This will probably do decent business, but I can't see it being a smash hit. Ben Stiller isn't exactly a huge box office draw.

True Grit: Sure it has a great cast (including a grizzled Jeff Bridges as Rooster (Clu-ster?) Cogburn) and it's a Coen brothers flick, but it's a western, and Coen brothers flicks have always been somewhat niche movies themselves.

Gulliver's Travels: I smell crap.

So no real tentpole blockbusterish movies, and no SF/action movies (unless you count Gulliver's Travels, and if you do, then you're nuts). Hopefully, people looking for that kind of movie will flock to see TL.

I had an accident in 2001 and nearly died, so I am feeling so fortunate that I got to see the sequel. I am also a bit melancholy because TRON was one of the first non-rated G movies I got to see with my father and while I don't know if he would be enthusiastic about TRON Legacy, I am sorry he passed away before it screened.
