In today's corporate world, I believe Interscope owns the Black Eyed Peas, which is owned by Universal Music Group, and somewhere down the line is Disney.

I feel you. I can;t really stand anything thats "crap" today. If you want real hip hop..look underground or back to the 80's. I don't like how BEP used a lightcycle. Its almost as bas as Kanye singing on a Daft Punk track...uhhggg.. get original "Like the man says, there's no problems, only solutions. " ~ Kevin Flynn |

Well not quite as good if the Black Eyed Peas are hated for selling out :P
As they say, guilty by association. I can tell you one thing...TRON is no sellout ! |

honestly, the only thing that bothers me about this video is how it doesn't sound like a live performance...like, not one note is out of place...sounds exactly like the track...
the lightcycle does seem a bit out of place, but i wouldnt like, lose my mind saying they are stealing and uncreative or anything. If i was an artist you can damn well bet i'd throw some circuit lines and some cycles in my videos.
What about that one music video that I saw on here once that was shot entirely in a recognizer set a while back? Didn't we all like that? I sure did. Hows that different?

I've just been accused of being "negative" on one thread so I might aswell get accused of being positive on this one. Whilst I don't like the Black Eyed Peas, I saw this footage on a 3-D demonstration disc in a UK store advertising Sky-3D. I thought it was cool seeing the lightcycle and hope it will help etch the movie into people's consciousness.
Every little thing will help to make this movie huge and if the Black Eyed Peas inadvertently help, so what? I reckon that there was a reason why the replica was there, too.

I never cared for the way pop music, hip-pop, hiphop and Rap musicians for the past 10 yrs have "borrowed" New Wave songs from the 80's using the exact music unchanged and just re-writting the lyrics, or "borrowing" things from totally unrelated sub-culture aesthetics, and unrelated mis-fitting genre elements and wearing similar outfits or having a video set in a genre totally unrelated to hiphop, pop, or Rap and presenting it like they are sooo "original" or "unique".
For example; A rap artist that copies the costumes and enviroments from "Mad Max" and "The Hunger" and "The Matrix" and re-writes the lyrics to "Hungry like the wolf" but uses that song's music and adds in a rap beat IMO does not equel "original". What's next Kanye West covered in glitter with wig of long blonde hair, fangs, a black poet shirt and black PVC pants singing a basterdized version of Duran Duran's "Her name is Rio"?

lol! I find myself agreeing with you again.
But it's nothing new; artists getting influenced by pop culture. I remember groaning when singer Gary Numan recorded an album called Warrior (I think that's the title) and styled himself on Mad Max as seen in The Road Warrior, and then Duran Duran did it with Wild Boys. Duran Duran got away with a little as they did a kind of Mad Max style sequel to Barbarella (without that character in it) called Arena.
The Black Eyed Peas thing is a bit different, because the video just shows the lightcycle being shown overhead doesn't it? (I can't access the video here, for reference)

There is no logic behind any thought process that could make someone offended by this... It's completely ridiculous. You all make me ashamed to be a fan of Tron.

All I read here is "WAAH I DON LIEK BLACK EYED PEAS AN DEY LIEK TRON AN I HAET DEM CUZ DEY TRY TO LIEK WHAT I LIKE WASDKJHAKJGASKJDGKJHGAJSGD"
It's god damn childish. It's absolutely pathetic. It's the kind of thought processes behind Disney suing the teacher that showed a disney cartoon to her students. It's the kind of thought process that censors Crysis and changes the human Marines in Half life to robots in the German version, and makes the scientist sit down and shake their head instead of fall over and die when shot. It's just stupid. It's absolutely idiotic.

...I really don't know what to say about that as seeing how I am completely clueless about how the music world works.
On one hand, it's good if it's getting attention to encourage people to see Tron Legacy.
On the other hand, they're not exactly affiliated with the movie, are they just using the lightcycle prop because it looks "cool"? (I feel somewhat puzzled about this point because I can't judge the music for myself.)
Regardless, there's quite a variety of option expressed in this thread. You can take my comment as being strictly neutral. :Porder abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

I could not care less if they like Tron Legacy or not. That's not what people are talking about at all.
We were talking about the unusual and questionable use of an intellectual property by rich musicians that may not of had persmission to do so in a commercial, hugely money making capacity.
A kindergarten having a painting of Disney cartoon characters on it's walls is not making money off of people viewing the kindergarten school, like they aren't charging people to see the school.
It's about the context and the purpose behind it.
The little kids are ***not** dressing up as Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto etc, while singing "Poker Face" and charging $80 - $100 to each person to see them perform. The teacher isn't charging the kids $10 each to watch the DVD of some Disney movie.
There's a big difference between fair use, and use that crosses the lines of improper use. Then there's trying to basterdize somthing which amounts to trying to mix oil with peanut butter, and all one gets is "ickiness".
Censorhip used improperly is stupid though and sueing a school for showing "Dumbo" or "The Lion King" or whatnot for free to little kids during "movie day" is stupid too. But that's a tanget and another discussion entirely..
But dang.. try to calm down there Xalener....order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

That people are throwing such immature, drooling fanboy hissy fits in this thread is offensive to me. It was A PROP used during A SONG. It's not like they're going around telling people that they did the soundtrack or are officially endorsed by the filmmakers or anything like that. Pick your battles already!
Also, I don't remember anyone throwing tantrums over The Strokes like they are for BEP...in fact, I seem to remember people thinking it was pretty awesome.

I thought you guys might like to know BEP have new album coming in 3 days! Prepare yourself for the beginning!!
Good call, FusionAddict. I forgot about that. Would be interesting to see the old thread on that here, as I don't recall much negative reaction to it. Or I wonder, what about all the other Tron influences in pop culture. There's not a negative reaction or wondering from the fans, "Did SouthPark get permission? Did FamilyGuy, or Tony Hawk, or Honda, or Cheech & Chong, or G4?, etc."... yet they took things from Tron.
I'm getting out of here right now, and you guys are invited. -----^ |

God damn, thank you.
Tron is a part of pop culture, and people will throw back to/ borrow from it whether any of you like it or not. That being said, the IP doesn't belong to any of you, so none of you have the right to be pissed about this. Liking the IP doesn't give you an excuse to try and "defend" their property by whining.

No one is "getting pissed". Maybe more like slight annoyance.
No one here is saying " Oh I am sooo pissed off they did this! grr!"
Again, there's a fine line between *homage* and what's questionably not a homage...
