The CGI they've shown us for both Kevin Flynn in the real world as a younger age with Sam and with CLU look so UNBELIEVABLY RUBBERIZED AND FAKE!!! If there is anything that will kill this movie, it's going to be that Disney spent all their time and effort into making the "TRON World" itself, and not enough into these younger Jeff Bridges characters!! I am very nervous now for TRON: Legacy.
I mean, think back a few years and films ago...remember the de-ageing they did for "X-Men: The Last Stand", where Professor Xavier and Magneto were "younger" when they met Jean Grey for the first time? And how about "The Curious Case of ? Benjamin Button"? I mean, the photo-realistic effects were completely believable with Brad Pitt ageing and de-ageing.
Why couldn't have Disney gotten the same quality either one of those films had for TRON: Legacy??
Color me a little sceptical at this point, but don't get me wrong...I am still 100% a die hard fan for TRON: Legacy. I have been a fan of TRON since 1982 and I was 14 years old. I'm just a bit worried for the performance of the younger Flynn/CLU characters. | Actually, from what I understand, Disney DID use the same software that was used in "Curious Case of Benjamin Button". |
Well...if that's the case, then the Disney CGI department needed to take some training courses on how to use that software correctly and effectively. When I look back on footage from "Benjamin Button" and compare any of it to what I've seen so far from TRON: Legacy, it doesn't even look like it's in the same ballpark.
|
uhm i'm sorry but the effects on the curious case of benjamin button looked nowhere near as good as the effects on Jeff Bridges for Tron Legacy...and honestly for both that movie and the footage we've seen so far, i can tell it's CGI....i don't see how someone can look at the benjamin button movie and not clearly see it's effects are not as good as the effects on jeff bridges...also don't see why ppl are worried..the film is not finalized yet.. |
Captain CR,
I'm actually going by a youtube video that someone on this board posted a link to over a month ago where there was this forum, and there was a guy doing a demonstration about the technology/software used in Benjamin Button (which I was told was the same software used in TL). I even made a joke abou t how the presenter even used the words, "we had to appropriate some software" comparing him to the MCP.
I'll say this - yes, the CGI looks pretty good, but after repeated viewings of the trailers, there is something weird about CLU 2.0's face and young Kevin Flynn's face. However, that IN NO WAY is diminishing my excitement and enthusiasm for this movie. I (like a lot of other folks) have been waiting 28 years, and I didn't get a chance to go to Tron Night, but from what I've heard the footage in Tron Night was mindblowing. Keep in mind, they may still be doing some final adjustments to the effects, and making any final prints, edits and renders. on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online Fighting for TRON, The USERS, Both Flynns, Independents, and the mighty ISOs since '82. |

I remember 6 years ago being on this site, back when members would be actually happy about a Tron sequel, enjoying Tron 2.0 on PC, and many would not be so focused on super-photo real CG... ah well... V_V *sigh*

I gotta admit, I didn't notice the issue at all when watching the trailer on youtube for the first time. I was probably too busy gawking at all the pretty lights. But if this many people are noticing the problem, there must be a reason for it, and I don't think it's, "I don't like TRON, therefore I'm going to find anyway to pick it apart."

Don't go that far. After a dozen or so "cheapquels", direct-to-video sequels to classic animations that Disney has done, plus all the crap based on old franchises that Hollywood has been spewing out, I was utterly terrified of what would happen when Disney finally decided to give TRON a serious look again. I'll hold judgement until I see the whole film, but IMO Disney has more than proven that they actually care about the franchise. And although it primarily seems to be targeted at the youngsters, its still a serious film, which is very impressive for the company that in the past has produced gems the likes of "Sharkboy and Lava Girl", "Spykids 3D", and the however many talking dog movies. Tron:Legacy is lightyears beyond realistic expectations from Disney, whose only quality live-action film franchise for the past decade has been Pirates of the Carribean.

I think Sean Bailey is a major factor (along with Pixar & John Lassiter) as to the major shift in quality in Disney entertainment properties (other than the teen/tween fluff of the Disney Channel and Hannah Montanna fluff)
Ok. So, out of 600 comments on the official TL Facebook page, I only saw maybe 2 posts complaining about Flynn and Clu's CGI. ( I could not care less what the bashers and haters and trolls on "Ain't it Cool News" or i09.cpm spew in their posts)
I'm willing to admit that in the *trailer* 35-39 ish CG K. Flynn is slightly "off' just slightly when stared at intently, but Clu looks great IMO.
Now this is odd because other clips like at ElecTRONica and Tron Night (IMAX 3D), to *me* and others it looked alot better.
Now how can one explain that? Why is it that to me and others at Tron Night and at ElecTRONica, CG Clu and K.Flynn looks alot better than in the trailers? Maybe it's a matter of subjective perception, i don't know. order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

It's mostly the mouth's movements that aren't right, but I kinda think it's how Jeff Bridges himself looked astheticly during the taping of Tron Legacy.
Isn't it because Jeff Bridges had a beard while recording through the whole movie? Wouldn't that cause a bit of trouble for the animators trying to smooth out or get rid of a beard, and try and figure out how his facial muscles move from underneath the beard? Also, doesn't Jeff, when talking normally, have a slight drawl to his facial movements?
Just a few things to think on for the ones talking about Clu's and young Kevin's face.
But I kinda like the roughness in the CGI look and movement. To me, it gives the character Clu a bit more of his own personality. As if he developed in a way different to Kevin Flynn's aging.
And as you said, this is not going to diminish your excitement for the new movie, and it won't mine. And 28 years is a long time to wait! I'm only as old as Kevin has been missing. :P |

I believe that was my post that you are referring to Renegade. I hope this link works:
http://www.tron-sector.com/forums/default.aspx?a=top&id=385928
And if I'm not mistaken, it may have been in another interview with the Digital Domain people, or maybe it's in that video (I haven't watched it again since then), but from what I understand, it's much easier to "age" a person with CGI than it is to "de-age" them. I seem to recall someone talking about how it is MUCH more difficult to make someone look younger than to make someone look older, mainly because we KNOW what they looked like as a younger person, but we don't know what they will truly look like as they get older. So, I think that's where the "uncanny valley" effect comes into play. For "de-aging", we have a younger reference for comparison. For "aging", we don't. I actually haven't seen "The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons", but the scenes they showed in the video clip I posted looked pretty good to me.
Personally, I'm not too worried about it. I have faith in the Digital Domain team. I think that they are going to make TRON: Legacy be absolutely the best it can possibly be. For me...after 28 years, it'll be worth the wait. The 11 year old boy in me will be very excited!

Hey, does anyone know where we can download this new trailer from? I tried a couple of different links that I've found thinking it would be the full .mov file, but it just keeps giving me the 1k file and not the actual movie. Any suggestions?

Streaming sites offer trailers in HD quality these days, so I think downloadables are starting to lose favor.

Definitely keepvid.com
you sould try it, they have this feature where you make it a bookmark, and whenever i watch a tron video i like youtube, i just click the bookmark and that same youtube tab will become a keepvid page that asks what format you want the video to be downloaded in. it's really handy.
so i guess right click on the vid at our current news page and click watch on youtube, then do the above procedure and you're good. Singing: All I want for christmas is a Tron Legacy Identity Disc Replica... |

It's not because you're positive about a Tron sequel, that's great. Not sure anyone disagrees with that. In fact, I think we're all positive about the sequel. (Okay, some are maybe just cautiously optimistic ) The problem is that you often flame and disrespect those who point out any negatives with the new film, which sometimes inevetibily cycles back as a flame to you. It seems you're aware of the flames at you, but maybe not of the flames you cast. Regardless, I agree that the flames are no good. Since they're cyclical and appear to usually start by the T:L protectors, how should we work through this? Seems to me either people stop posting negative critiques, or the T:L Protectors stop flaming when they see a negative comment. To me, the latter seems the most reasonable path to take on an Internet forum. Posting The Dude like you did there is a flame. Ad hominem... interesting observation, Imbruglio.
Hopefully Admins will create forum rules someday with one of the 10 rules being to ban users who provoke others into flame wars through personal jabs or inflammatory sarcasm (nip it in the bud). Right now, the Rules link just goes to the following error, so maybe you're safe to keep making things personal when someone doesn't like something with the new movie:

At any rate, time to move on. I've said my piece and have a new film to be excited about and critique. Neomanga, that is a very interesting point! I wonder if that is what's causing problems or making things difficult for the animators. Seems like they scanned his face around the same time they did the acting, like you say. Surely he couldn't have shaved it for the scans and then grown it back so quickly? So did they scan him with the beard?
I'm getting out of here right now, and you guys are invited. -----^ |

I never said " go see an optomitrist" and none of my observations was like " person A, and person B, and Mister C are being so and so. and are big poopyheads" or something.
Your blantently taking my comments and mis-representing it. I wasn't flaming any particular person by name at all.
Only saying that IMO, some persons (no persons refered to in particular) seem as if they are over-analyzing and being overly critical. That's a subjective *observation* not a flame. Someone saying "go see an optomitrist!" is a flame. It's fine line between posting a rude comment and what isn't a rude comment.
Your only futher exasorbating (sp?) the matter by stirring up things more. I've moved on.
How about drop it and stop throwing out accusations? hm?
