After reading the Marvel comic of The Betrayal, I've looked back at the trailer and thought about the infamous Dillinger touchscreen desk for Flynn's server. That clock countdown means something and does track how long he was in there.
BUT. What if the clock represents the time until power shuts down? Think about it. The server needs power to continue to be plugged to the wall jack. Maybe Flynn know the End of the Grid is coming and is trying to get out ever since and knows this secret that Clu doesn't.
And Sam has to save the grid from being shut down. After Clu is dealt with or reforms from his errors.
EDIT: by the way, while reading the prequel comic, the Roman myth of Romulus and Remus came exactly to mind for Tron : Legacy.

That is an interesting theory. I know that the movie involves a fight over power, as in an energy source. Like the grid is running out of power or something. But the thing is, computers get shut down from a power source all the time, and it doesn't delete anything or cause any major damage. So even if the power is shut off, everything in there should still exist, but may be in a frozen state or something. Could still make sense. After all, so often everyone fears the end of the world, and so often, the end of the world does indeed come. I just found out about this Betrayal comic.
Is it still out? Wow I need to call
my local comic shop and hope they still have it!
Because this is something I must have!!
