I'm also going to say that seeing Sam wearing street clothes inside the computer system was very, very weird. You never know, it may get changed. They can change things in an instant these days.
I plan on trying to do a full report of SDCC this weekend, assuming I can get over the jet lag.

I just don't get what the big deal is with Sam having street clothes on. I am perfectly satisfied with Sam having his User clothes because I am endowed with the knowledge that they wanted to that in the first film but couldn't. As a hardcore TRON fan I like this. I see it that, because the system has evolved so much, and there being no MCP in control of the Digitizing process, Users are allowed to be digitized in to the Computer World in their User World form. Saying that Jet Bradley didn't appear in User clothes is totally irrelevant due to Tron 2.0 being written out of continuity.
And no tronprogram, they can't remove it because they already finished that scene, and removing it would entitle half of the film being removed (not to mention those sexy Sirens).

Actually, they can remove it. They have the technology to film a scene from nothing, get the visuals done within a day or two and insert it into the movie. Just because a scene is finished, it doesn't mean it can't be removed from a movie.
I personally felt we didn't need the scene with the sirens. Sure they look nice and all, but are they really that vital to the film? I'm not fond of the Sam in street clothes bit either, even if that was the intent of the original film. But, it's not a deal breaker, just mildly annoying. And it's pretty clear that since we've seen Sam in his clothes not only in the 8 minutes of SDCC footage, but also in the actual trailer released to the public, that they're not going to cut it out or redo the scene now. I'm not happy about it, but I can live with it. Just as I can live with Evil!Clu, the computer world being darker instead of brighter, and so forth.

I never thought about that, but your right. The original had so much going on. The world was alive. Even when Sark was angry, his suite would brighten up to reflect his mood. The new suits just glow. At least in all the footage they've shown so far. I think it's all about merchandise. Now they can mention that the tech used for the glowing outfits is real and pitch the stuff to all the consumers. you also have to remember that they said the process they used to make the circuitry glow in the first movie was a very long and hard process and they even said back then that the process would NEVER BE USED AGAIN.
also they mentioned how alot of times when the circuitry would be pulseating that it wasn't inteded to do that. it was like a "glitch" but they felt since there wasn't anything they could do about it and it looked cool anyway, might as well go with it.order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill "You know you don't look a thing like your pictures?" |

But on the Tron DVD interviews they said they could do it in real time with today's special effects tech. The pulsing was not a glitch. It was when Flynn first arrives there is a flash that pops up every few seconds. They then realized that it was because they used the cells Kodak sent them out of order. And just because it wasn't intended doesn't mean that it wasn't a good special effect. Many special effects have been discovered by accident. Sometimes having too much control and no limitations is a bad thing.
"In 1896, French magician Georges Méliès accidentally discovered the same "stop trick." According to Melies, his camera jammed while filming a street scene in Paris. When he screened the film, he found that the "stop trick" had caused a truck to turn into a hearse, pedestrians to change direction, and men turn into women."-wikipedia on the stop trick effect.

I think if they were going to ignore previous cannon they should have just done a reboot. But they wanted the support of the fans to promote the movie to their friends. So, they came up with this whole "it evolved" theme to explain why they decided to abandon most of the look of the original film. Disney new that the general audience would not take a film serious if it looked like Tron or Tron 2.0. A world that looks computer generated. That's what kept the previous movie from being more successful. And the film was criticized by the film industry when it came out. But us true fans got it.
Well, at least the story sounds faithful to the original. And they do have lightcycles and recognizers. Like I've said before, this movie will be a great movie from what we've seen so far. And I'm very excited to see it. That doesn't mean that I'm going to like everything they do in the movie. But it also doesn't mean that I'm going to hate the movie either. Just wish they were a little more faithful to the original movie and didn't bulldoze over Tron 2.0.

I concur CaptainCR.
I also noticed that Sam getting suited up is very reminicent of the Tron formation at the very beginning of the original Tron.
I'll put this here as Steve Lisberger himself gives his thoughts on Tron Legacy and how it relates to the original...

haha tell me about it. People cannot except stuff the way it is. I'm loving everything they are doing with this film. With today's technology..it actually fits in well. That's a brilliant observation. I don't think it's exact in that process but it's close. I think it was meant as a relative metaphor for the digitization process.
As for the street clothes that Sam wore, I believe it is intentional due to the fact that the grid has evolved to a new server. Think of the original film's grid world as 8 or 16-bit while Tron: Legacy is probably 128-bit or higher .
So the more defined the digital world is, the more they can take on details. After all, the orange in the original was zapped into the system as an attempt for teleportation (if I'm not mistaken) and redigitized back with its entire DNA structure intact. This one was a simple shape and form but with a human, it's more complex. |

Eh, not true, internet was around as ARPAnet, it just happened to come around in 1983 as internet :P
I mean, come on, even 1982 computers already had dial-up modems! (There's even a modem on Flynn's Apple III when he hacks into the Encom servers-- why, yes, I'm an obsessed computer history nerd >.>)
