All right, I thought there must've been some kind of misunderstanding or confusion here along the road because, to be honest, I just didn't understand your replies LurkingHorror, so I checked this thread's history too and on page 39 (back in October) ShadowDragon posted the exact same thing and I saw you didn't reply or something... so I too apologize if anything I stated seemed offensive in any way, that was not my intention, and as TRON.dll says "lets not go completely insane over small details"... Everything's cool man.
In fact, I'm kinda 'excited' to know that the franchise IS alive and kicking in the world of comics!?... Am I correct? SLG renewed the TRON license? |
At the moment, SLG has not renewed it's contract to produce new material. Whether it will or not is not a matter I could comment on. What I can say is that while the publishing license has (very) recently expired, the interaction between the two companies has not simply dissolved. There is still a matter of the as of yet unpublished collection. My impression is that both Disney and SLG would prefer that the previously created material is not simply swept under the rug. I certainly didn't intend to give the impression that new material was currently being developed at SLG. I simply meant that just because the rights to publish new material expire, it doesn't mean that all business communications are severed.
My personal opinion is that there will be more Tron comics in the future. But as to who will be publishing and creating them... time will tell. On the creative side, I would suspect that the direction of the new film would inform the direction of any future ancillary product.
There was an earlier exchange between myself and ShadowDragon, back in August. But it was minor and civil. I was associating a seperate argument on the same topic with him, and it cast his current statements in a unfair negative light. It was totally my misunderstanding. My apologies once more.

I would love for there to be more TRON comics. Either surreal & abstact, or a more straight foward
action-adventure TRON graphic novel would be sweet I think.
BTW; Digital Domain is going to use the latest method of digital compositing of an actor's face onto a "photo-real"
3-D model of a "human" (like was done for certain segments of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"), but this time for certain scenes with TRON 2 characters.
So I think some people here will probably like what they see in the final build of the EFX.
This does seem to have a lot of potential to be a pretty good and exciting film all around. I think that people shouldn't set expectations too high though.
I'm *predicting* a new teaser trailer to be shown with "Race To Witch Mountain" but if it's delayed. New teaser footage *may* be shown at San Diegon Comic Con 2009.

That is sooo coool. She looks soo real o.o.
Last month I showed my VFX history class the Tr2n trailer. Everyone went crazy because they had not scene it yet.
Can you believe that? A history class in VFX not seeing that? You'd think it would be the subject of the class. order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill I'm cold and calculating. Don't press my buttons.

What I like after seeing the small video and reading some of the information that was given. The throughput of the calculation was something like 2.4 teraflops of calculations a second for rendering. And compared it to a supercomputer that had that kind of computation throughput 12 years ago. Sorry if I get into the technical aspects of things like this. For me when I see things like this I usually like to know the kind of hardware that they are using for these things to get an idea of whats going on not only in the front but also on the backside. Which usually impress me on cases like this. Even if it some technical data.

Yeppers. And here is something slightly out of our leagues. But if money was no object this would be nice to have and to use. (It would be over kill to have this as a fully loaded gaming rig in all ways possible. When it is fully equiped and raided.) Here is the link from Cray about their. http://www.cray.com/Products/CX1.aspx Take a look at the small demo and the brochure of this product from them. To get an idea of what I am looking at here. And not to out do your thing either. Very nifty and good idea there for the animation rendering.

Can you imagine having a render farm made of those? The company would have to starve in order to buy enough of them.
Anyways, this does make in intresting related topic. Makes me wonder what the DD VFX artists are doing at this very moment.
Probably enjoying their Tron lightcycles, yes?
Edit: Oh, yeah. Not moment in my sleep do I not dream of using one of those puppies! ...or at least something beyond 32mbs of integrated graphics, LOL.
another edit: Digital Domain has made a slight update to their Tron 2 listing. Nothing juicy though. I'm cold and calculating. Don't press my buttons.

I would. Unfortunately I live at least an hour away from the nearest IMAX theater.
What does everyone think the bits (nibbles, bites, words, double words.... ) might turn out like in this movie? They might look similar to the original, star like maybe. White with their little energy trails following behind...I can imagine them already. Of course, I can dream right.
It would be awesome if they used a bit as the shooting star in the Disney logo. I'm cold and calculating. Don't press my buttons.

This isn't news . . . just an amusing anecdote.
I know for a fact that a number of Garrett Hedlund fans are lurking here, but have yet to post. Well, don't worry, we won't bite. We're not all sharks.
Yeah, maybe we're kind of hard-core, but you have to remember that we saw the film as kids and we grew up with it. We just want the sequel to do justice to the original, that's all. To update it, without totally throwing away everything about the original that we remember. Naturally, we're going to question and examine every new announcement, hoping for the best. And that includes the casting of actors like Garrett.
Oh, and apparently I put someone to sleep with my massive list of updates about the sequel. Well, sorry . . . but you have to understand, Disney was extremely cagey about whether or not the sequel was actually going to happen, for about half a year. So, naturally, we're all asking "well, is it or isn't it actually happening?"
So, don't be shy, and go ahead and post.

Disney just needs to release the lightcycle sequence in official HD already. Who cares if TR2N doesn't come out. Who cares if it's just test footage. Who cares if the sequence is not indicative of the sequence. From an artistic, creative perspective... and from a perspective of liking ... I would just like to see an official version of that footage released. At some point. Soon. It's been like half-a-year now... *yawn* It'd be one thing if that "bootleg" didn't come out; but it did, and it's no secret what it looks like now. I'm just tired of the grainy version.
PS: I would care if TR2N doesn't come out I was just teasing.
I'm getting out of here right now, and you guys are invited. -----^ |

"I discovered Tron late in life and now when I watch it, I really get a kick out of how retro is looks now. At the time it was, as you know, quite revolutionary and new, sort of the Matrix of its time."
This is the second time she has said this in an interview and I have to disagree. I don't think the computer graphics or designs look dated at all. Maybe the scenes in the "real world". I personally feel that Tron has stood the test of time and looks just as good now as it did back then.

She's confusing retro with authentic. It's not just that Tron has stood the test of time, but something cannot be retro when it's the genuine article. One particular dictionary definition sums it up quite well: "A fashion, decor, design, or style reminiscent of things past."
This is not unlike the Alanis Morissette song where she misuses the word ironic. Albeit on a much smaller scale.
