One thing to keep in mind... Some of us old folk have been give'n the run-around so many times on a squeal that when something like this slaps us in the face, we still have some doubts weather or not something is going to happen..

Even happened with Tron 2.0...

It's just a mind-set. I've been dealing with sequel news as far back as 1996 and been dragged on that road for so long...

Many, many projects get to this stage (and further) without getting the green light. I suspect your contacts can tell you this.

Dont remember the films, but it has happened that the studios have in fact torn down finnished sets because the greenlight switched to red.

It was a test reel. Proof of concept. I've even had one made for a property of my own. Yet I don't have a television show. I'm telling you right now, there are a host of reasons footage like that could be produced and shown without a film being greenlit.

lurkinghorror is right, though. We are definitely closer to a sequel than we ever have been. Disney just needs to get the movie suited to the main audience that will enjoy this movie, and that is us computer nerds/people stuck in the 80's/etc. and not the audience that most of their movies lean towards. In my opinion, the trailer hit all the right notes, except for a few misses, like wherever Flynn was and some of the geometry (I thought most of the game grid geometry/ramps/etc. were great), but it was great overall. If they can manage to retain that style when (if? ) the final film comes out, then we have epic win written all over this masterpeice.

I'm about 78% sure this will be greenlit. 78% says that Disney actually paid a guy to direct a TRON film, and Disney doesn't waste money, so it's unlikely they'd just fire him for no reason. Plus, you've got all of the positive reaction from ComiCon (the AICN article says that the convention center went nuts).
