I know it would be nice to see a lot of elements from the first film. However, I don't want a rehash of 'Tron'. This is a new movie, and not everything from the first film has to be or should be in the sequel. Personally, I think the virus angle from Tron 2.0 is the direction this film should head in.
A lot of people seem surprised that the light cycles aren't moving at right angles in the trailer. The only time they moved like that in Tron was on the game grid.

Excellent. I've always had this littlwe theory with myself that the reason the cycles turned 90-degrees had something to do with the grid lines on the Game Grid.

A text adventure light cycles game?! That is so awesome! I can only imagine how it would be like:
You rezz into a strange room with white lines on the ground. a lightcycle appears around you and you begin zooming forward. There are other people in lightcycles.
>Examine lightcycle
It is blue.
>Left
You turn left. There is a lightcycle wall ahead.
>Shield break
'Shield Break' is not a valid command. You have crashed into a lightcycle wall! Game over. Reboot your system to try again. |
You know, that's actually not that bad of an idea. I might give that a try sometime.

Actually, to correct the statement I may have confused people with, ti was a text based adventure game with my own light cycles game. I remember the grid paper I was using to design the lightcycles on.

Greetings, xalener and TRACE on and welcome to TRON-Sector!
Light cycles - on and off the grid. I've missed a lot of conversation about this topic, but I'm guessing that the light cycles will play in both 90 degree angle and free-turn modes, depending on where they are or the game settings, if you will. That seems to be on par with what other people have been pondering as well. Good to see we're all taking the same angle on that one. he he

We had an idea where the son of Alan Bradley and Lora Baines was a programmer at ENCOM.
A protection system the MCP had held in reserve was found in the old files. The son was working with a team that was still dissecting the MCP.
This protection system was a part of the MCP meant to copy and rebuild the MCP in a new place if the primary version failed. The problem was that the MCP never started it before it failed.
When the team accidentally releases the protection system, it has no link to the MCP, so it tries to execute it's design without the main piece it requires and it's sort of crazy. It starts taking over everything and computers are shut down all over the world in minutes.
Alan Bradley reveals that the MCP is actually running on a completely isolated system, the old ENCOM server, down in the basement of the building. The laser is also stored down there.
The only way into the system to restore order is to use the MCP and the laser to break in. They enlist the aid of the MCP and they break in.
The game was intended to be a combination of shooter and puzzles. The final puzzle of the main game was a battle on the "NEW MCP" which was an insane spinning wall of blades that involved jumping and blasting guards and wall points with your disc.
Once you won the game, you turned for the heroic vision of the computer panorama where your tanks, recos, troops and lightcycles were all around and glowing in triumph....until....
Starting from the most distant troops you notice they are all turning RED!!
The MCP helped you get into the system, and it followed you in, taking over everything behind you and gaining control of the system for itself. So instead of being at the end of the game, you are really at the middle. Now you are trapped inside and have to find your way back out of the system while rstoring order to the computer world.
The ending I envisioned was that you get out, and you restore order, but the MCP and it's protection program are alive and well and hiding in the dark recesses of the cyberverse. Waiting for the next game!
I wish I'd gotten to make that game. |

That sounds kinda like Portal, actually...
*****WARNING! SPOILERZ (Although it shouldn't really matter, as that whole game's plot is an internet meme now..)!*****
After completing the final test chamber, you think the game's almost over, until GLaDOS tries to dump you into a fire pit, and you escape. At that point, you are halfway through the game, and the rest of the game consists of you going through the inner workings of the facility and trying to escape using the skills you learned in the testing chambers.

Yeah, only bad part is that Portal doesn't leaev an opening at the end for a sequel, unless you take "Still Alive" seriously.
