Has Dan stared in anything recently?

I can confirm this with Davetron here. She did post once apon a time on a topic of some sort long time ago. Of what I do not remember off hand. But she does visit like the others even Dan Shor. I thought it was interesting to see that from Celebrities.

What makes you think they don't view this site? Steven looks in all the time. I'd say he doesn't post mostly to protect his privacy, but there have been occasions where he has told me things to pass on here, so I can say with 100% assurance that you've heard from him here before.

I won't say that I speak for him exclusively, and I certainly can't pass on everything told to me, but when he says I can share info, I do. If anything comes my way, I will.

It would be cool if the Live Chat was really working, to do a chat live on this site. If the chance ever comes for that to occur, I will help to push the idea. I think Auric was working on the chat last week, so if it's really working right I will ask if we can pull something together.

Live chat would be an excellent idea, if it had audio.

Ok, so you assure us SL does, and that's great, but the list of people working on the new film extends further than Steve Lisberger, and the point I was trying to make is that in this day and age of internet saturation, having a ready made audience to test out ideas on and funnel their announcements through would be a great way for them to involve a major part of the initial audience. I mean, theres no way the people who visit this site arent going to see the movie!

The Dragonlance reference was a good example of what happens when fan sites are used as official sites for a movie, and then utterly ignored by the film company and film makers who then go and release a piece of trash that has NONE of the spirit or greatness that made the original so entertaining.

If the people involkved in the new project are here, SPEAK UP! Im not expecting advance knowledge and announcements before the rest of the world, but knowing that those people are listening to us, the fans, would be comforting, even if it was just to look at the thread on how we think they could screw up tr2n!!!

That's a great idea. Make It So! (oooo - wierd Picard moment there!)

I know several people who think forums are largely irrelevant, and in terms of actual influence on anyone - useless. However I disagree w/ my friends often, that's what we're here for. heh. Everyone is unique in that respect, and perhaps they don't want to ruin things for others due to one's inherent curiosities in the forums.. Plus I think it may be a bad publicity in a work environment. Several of those named are up there while we're down here.

there is no chance in hell they can screw up Tron. Unless they make it a glam show in 2 hours, which is why I think it should be lenthy. Besides it's been 26 years. I want to see what happened to the pretty glowy programs who were free after the fall of the MCP.

It's good in theory, but bad in practice. Any project of this size and scale has to appeal the the majority first and the die hardcore fan base must come second. Additionally, from a creative standpoint I think it is more important to follow your own instincts rather than let the committee of the internet dictate your work.

That said, utilizing this site as part of a marketing strategy would be a good idea.

Digidude, accept it, in the end, all you desire is to comfort yourself with some knowledge just a few select people possess right now.

If the people involkved in the new project are here, SPEAK UP! NOT ALL the people involved in the new project are here, just Steven Lisberger, and that'd be Mr. Steven Lisberger for you. DaveTRON just assured us that he's aware of and cares for this community and that something may come up if and when the time comes.

Be patient my young padawan...

I think there needs to be a balance struck: between what the creators of a project want, and what the fans want. The trick is to find the right balance, that pleases almost everyone.

I definitely agree that the creators' instincts are number one, above all else. Otherwise, what's the point of creating something, if it's done by committee. That type of project almost always turns out badly. It leads to compromises that ruin the cohesiveness of the whole.

But it would also be foolish to completely ignore input from the fans. After all, if you ditch loyal fans and saddle them with something that was purely made for profit: the negativity and resentment from the bad word-of-mouth can, potentially, really hurt your sales.

I think it's possible to create a sequel that appeals to a broad audience, while still keeping the more hardcore fans happy at the same time. Let's hope the people involved can find the right formula.

Folks, I need to make something clear. I remain in the good graces of people like Steven Lisberger because I know when to keep my mouth shut.

Because I possess that ability, I sometimes get nifty tidbits to share here.

I am aware a of a few items that I am sure I probably should not be, but I will NEVER share them until I am told I can or they become public via other means.

It's the way it works. I am trusted, and I will not violate that trust ever because it might harm something I care deeply about.

I should also point out that even though I know a few things, I really don't know that much. I usually find out about these things very close to the time they go public via other routes.

As for those who are looking in. I can't say for sure about the new crew as I have not met any of them yet. I know who pops in from the old crew to a good extent, and it's at least 10 people that have told me directly that they come over here.

It would be ridiculous to assume that Joseph Kozinski has not looked in here and at least read some of this stuff. He'd want to know what the fan community thinks. I'd bet there are others, and I would not be surprised in some of our recent active newbies are not part of that team. I know I wonder about certain things said here.

I do not believe for a minute that they have any desire to dive into the fan community for input on their film. I think they will make announcements and look here for reaction.

When we started TRON 2.0, I was told to join here and read what was said because nobody else at BVG wanted to do so. When we needed Beta Testers, it was my idea to run that out of here working with Auric. Maketing never wanted to post here and never liked the idea of running any events through here. They were focused on their mass marketing ideas like "hot girls handing out demos in Santa Monica" or "NOT getting the TRON 2.0 trailer into Disney thetrical releases".

I think this team is going to do far more than BVG ever did, and I think they will make a film we like, but I don't think they will depend on us in any way shape or form to make and market their film.

Just my opinion, and I don't mean it in a negative way, but I just don't think we're as important as we think we are!

What a lot of people don't realize is that this site is a big deal. If I'm correct, we've been mentioned several times in magazines and I know that we've been mentioned on G4 a few years back.

If I'm correct, we are the largest and longest TRON site on the web....

Remember the interviews the sector did with people who worked on the film?

Agreed, as DaveTRON stated, Tron-Sector is the first place that they should be looking for a reaction. Where else is the Tron fanbase located? You look up Tron on Google and the first unofficial fan website listed is Tron-Sector at the seventh link. And I know Koslinski and Lisberger (especially) aren't stupid as they will look here first. Tron-Sector IS the main fan input! It's not coming from much anywhere else.

In a way we all should feel a lil sorry for DaveTRON I am sure he would love nothing better than to tell us everything he knows and get us all excited. I've been in a similar situation where I've known things that other would love to know but told not to tell anyone (last technical job lol). It is really hard to be in that situation.

I also agree that we are not as important as we think we are. How many members exist in the sector? Compare that to the potential audiance this movie will have and you'll find out that we are a very small number in comparison. Our wants for this movie will always take second place to the mass market. But that doesnt mean that we will be completely ignored because this is a sequal after all. I am sure that there will be references and in jokes that only people who have seen the original will get. Who knows the sector might get an indirect mention (would be nice but doubt it lol).

If we are used in anyway it will be as an observation like DaveTRON stated. They will make an announcement and search for all fan sites to see the general reation. I am glad that DaveTRON is keeping his mouth shut because:

1) It keeps us in suspense
2) When he is told he can let rip and tell us what ever he wants its gonna be such a large cookie that we'll all be sick after stuffing ourselves with it.

Long-time lurker, first time poster. I am excited about the sequel, and have been a Tron fan for over 20 years. I wasn't sure how I would feel about a new movie, but now that it is so close, it feels right.

I have a different take on it... mainly because I've been hearing sequel news ever since the mid 90's (which most of the news back then was false). So I have a 'about-time' attitude about it.. lol...
