I don't think they work that way. If the film does well, all they have done is prop up a competitor. Typically, studios have no problem pushing things further back down the schedule. Lasseter cutting out Pixar seems unlikely.
I could be wrong here. Maybe they outsource things all the time. Not my branch of the industry. But it is a bit suspect. Particularly considering the absolute lack of evidence to support the rumor.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Not that I'm in any way, shape, or form an expert on Pixar, but from what I've read and watched about their history it would seem that outsourcing work would go totally against their grain.
In my opinion, that's a good thing.

And basically you don't get a job by showing off someone else's resume. That said, Lasseter could be working outside the Pixar umbrella. The ins and outs of how he conducts his business are not known to me.
As you say, time will tell.

Lassiter is the CCO (Chief Creative Officer) for the Walt Disney Company... meaning he lords over both Disney and Pixar animation now. He has his hands in *all* animated films for Disney/Pixar. He even consults on the Theme Parks now.
There is an interview with him on Aint-It-Cool-News while he is advising on Bolt! for Disney Animation. I'll see if I can find the article.
As big of a Tron fan as he is... make no mistake that he is involved.

Generally speaking, I agree. As some on this forum can attest to from discussions we've had online or at conventions, I've been saying for years that Lassiter has wanted to get a hold of Tron and that Disney has been the one holding back. The Pixar/Disney merger simply made it impossible to casually dismiss the concept.
So you have a point. If this film actually does get greenlit, then (as you point out) involvement from Lassiter on some level is inevitable. But if the company that produced the trailer is involved, I doubt Pixar will be along for the ride.
Time will tell. There are still many pitfalls that can kill this possible project, despite it being further along than any other attempt at a Tron sequel. Test reels are common. Hell, there's one based off of one of my (non-Tron) comics. And I still don't have my own TV show.
Right now, online reaction seems mixed. Support for the concept would be a good idea, and now might be a good time to add a petition to the main page. Or some such thing.

I personally think if Lassater's name was seen as attached to this project, people would put 2 and 2 together and come up with "Pixar are doing tron?!", But as other have pointed out, John Lassiter is a fairly big weight to make this happen. I think he was on the interviews for the Tron 25th Aniversary DVD from last year saying how much a fan he was and how this was the future.
If Pixar are involved, they are going to be doing one specific part of the movies effects. Digital Domain's work seemlessly merges CGI with real life judging from previous J.Koslinski videos (check his web site, honestly, its impressive stuff), but someone still needs to pick up the vehicles and landscape CGI, AND 3d stuff (if it happens) will be done in house as well.
I guess its all going to depend on two things. One, the story has to be bulletproof, and two, the gaming possibilities have to be mind blowingly addictive to warrent licensing it to online gaming fans.
can a new tron movie do this? Hell yeah! Imagine a world of warcraft based on tron with light cycles, disc wars and perhaps a few new things in there we havent seen yet!
Seriously, I honestly believe the new movie will be successful because of its gaming possibilities and not whos doing the effects

I was there the first time Steven saw TRON 2.0 the game, and it was finished at that point. They may have asked him questions and gotten a small amount of feedback during Production, but I don't think he had any direct hand in the story for TRON 2.0. I will confirm that with him.

DaveTRON,
It'd be VERY interesting confirming that, I mean, such tidbits as the level of involvement on Mr. Lisberger part knowing Monolith had already devised a whole story for the TRON 2 game... What where his thoughts about that story as a whole the first time he read it? What he loved about it and what not? Did he talk with Steve Englehart? What about the original artwork he and Richard Taylor did for a Tron 2.0... Still has some use within the actual TR2N project? Did he work any new story ideas on TR2N with Bonnie McBird?
I thank you in advance for trying and asking about things for the rest of us. You need to check out the COMPLETELY UNOFFICIAL TRON TIMELINE!

Bonnie MacBird should be forgotten in the TRON world. My POV. She's not been part of the TRON world since 1981.
I doubt the artwork for TRON 2 that was on the 20th anniversary DVDs will ever see film.
I onlyintend to confirm the TRON 2.0 game story aspects.
I can't say anything about TR2N. A: Because what I do know I can't share, and B: What I do know isn't much.

Gotta say I am really buzzed about this news. However we all know that movies have gotten to this stage before and then canned. Look what happened to spiderman before that was released. I think the original planned date was 1995 but it stayed in limbo for ages. Same as a Dune remake thats in limbo at the moment.
BUT unlike those movies Tr2n seems to have alot of progression and more and more information being released all the time. So I really hope this works out and reboots Tron for the 21st century, because we all know Tron was ahead of its times and who knows it might do well enough for new games and perhaps a 3rd installment.
And btw I found a slightly better version of the trailer, its larger but still a little fuzzy.
