I speculate that the prop is a Rez-In Station for what are basically updates of the Guards from the original film, and they're calling them Sentries.

Looks a bit plastic-toyish..

..About a Tron game. I'm sure they'll make a nice game (level oriented, the movie being the interlude/introduction of the tron world/principles, game standing on itself new unrelated to movie characters etc. never do a tie-in like matrix game carrying parts of movie story. its not about future/past collide in tron game. tron is a static timeless world, the movie is irrelevant nor is the mythology, no subliminal matrix stuff/symbolism, movie never happened. tron just is. if there's stuff like subways/travel tubes/cable cars in tron world, they dont have to be used directly in movie, but more as a visualizer in background.. limit on people/crowded cities, its hard and they need dialogue, limit people to core cities and games gatherings.. doesnt always have to be buildings at the horizon, or centered when looking out window), but they need to realise the potential here (thinking ahead). Disney doing tron stuff inhouse = good. After doing a general Tron game, they need to create a Tron engine/game that redefines games in general, focussing on walking, cycles, jetsflying (by nature, but only at specific roads, more rare.. it need a cool factor, like seeing something at a distant highway, a ring you can jump into which transforms.. very much excess), and disruptors preventing you to fly at specific areas (maybe virtual roads), maybe fly underground (underground maze/sectors/portal to other mazelocations), and the world.. (and additional secondary vehicles you can step (beam) into, be it hovercraft/helictopters/recogn/tanks or whatnot.. hovercr. w/ deep humming noise (with something yellow, no more trails pls, keep trails to cycle, game isnot about trails)gliding over flat is great), and freely exploring a large world extreme, something of speed, and that flows.. Something you step into, like Quake Live/Unreal Tournament (but not a monthly payment, and not starting as player in a appartment/home cliche thing), random respawnpoints in universe.. I see a very static/solid empty world, not too occupied (people like in GTA, are always hard to do in games, just not include them), but when encountering some player, you could chase him around on bike, ending up in air (land on hovercity highways above ocean, before energy runs out), or he disappears underground sections/corridors (like deathmatch Tron style, in a large world).... For some reason I really want to see a Tr2n game for next gen consoles/PCs (emphasizing on Raytrace/large (generated) worlds/3D stereotopic option, realistic detailed faces), cool looking vehicles/worlds, cockpit view (f.i. hovercraft/tank/heli,but not neccesarilly see arms/legs), outside (pan-around) cams (with mouse).

And btw, that lightcycle design has style. I like those 3D ridges in wheels.. It reminds me of those old cartoons/mangas where walls/floors have those line patterns/ridges, perhaps Tron needs some of that. Gives it style.. I'm not sure how faces/helmets work now.. I like the idea of realistic faces in helmets, lit from inside (and 1st p. viewmode). Now I'm affraid they changed it, and put a headlight on it (instead of keeping light on cycle). Not necessarily a fan (like RT mic-voice), but imagine players scanning their face in 3D with webcam (or a more-or-less scan that can overlap a prefab 3d face).. Or a VR helmet-thing, providing true 3D immersion (as well as Realtime scan of playerface as option, or just eye tracking on a simul).. And as a player/program in the world you recieves occasional messages/orders in helmet (true 3D spatial audio, multiple speakers, subwoofer at the back). Tron from comfort of couch, with regular controller.. No steering wheels.Maybe rings on your finger for virtual hand tracking/throwing discs/press buttons.Not jumping around like crazy morons.

99% of real life props made for use in movie production are made from hard foam, molded plaster, and some material similar to polyurathane, and so look a bit plastic-y.

It'd be very expensive to make them out of more costly materials. In the actual movie or tv show those props look real with the proper fx lighting and digital wizardry.

..About a Tron game.
I've been fantasizing about an MMORPG set in the Tron Universe. It's the perfect setup:
*The idea of different "worlds" existing on different servers makes total sense here
*There are an endless variety of professions that a player could pursue
*The bodies of dead players disappearing not only makes sense, it ADDS to the realism instead of detracting from it.
*The build point system from Tron 2.0 would carry over perfectly as a way to level up with experience.

and i'm sure there are other ways in which Tron would make a great MMORPG. I would play it. I would play it so hard.

I *highly* doubt the Tron Legacy game will be an MMO.
I predict it will be a fairly straight-foward action game or an action-adventure game.

Now,

I'm hoping the effects artists incorperate the awesome glowing circuitry patterns on to the characters' outfits,
or digitally composite them onto their skin; like on their arms, back shoulders, neck; kind of like glowing circuit pattern tattoos.

That's what I'd do if I worked on the film's digital fx.

I doubt it'll be a MMO either.. I'm not a fan of MMOs actually (i dont like ranks and buying stuff and different characters/professions, I prefer a generalized concept that flows). But Tron has interesting multiplayer component that needs to be explored.. As well as large world exploration that needs be explored.. A lot of Tron specific potential that makes it distinct from others.. So it'll be somehing like MMO, but not one where players are all over. The world is bigger than a typical MMO (its' infinite, there's no frontier), it's not focused on players having homes/houses either, nor chat.. Maybe there's experience points by participating in games (or credits and shops, with for instance a turbine upgrade which hovers around cycle), or gain passes to access new sectors (walk through one-way-laser-passage specific for player). Maybe bit as a save/respawn point.. or bit is reserved inside tanks/recog..

More like players doing their thing in the world (exploring/driving/flying mostly), going to locations, doing their individual missions (f.i. retrieve piece of puzzle, teleport codes, activate something, activate something with help of othr player, fly into building, underground stuff, meet people underground sectors), and the option to challenge someone (or participate together in some mission), or participate in disc game..I wanna be immersed in it, for hours upon hours. The world is the game.But that's in my head, the game will probably be an action/levels-type of game.. Which is good, for now. But.. Disney needs to realise...

I'd be happy if they just made a series of games based on parts of the movie.

Remember when the Phantom Menace came out? They came out with a few games based an certain parts. One of which was 'Pod Racer' (the only one in my opinion that was any good).

Anyways, it would be cool if they did something similar. Have one game dedicated just to light cycles, another to some other aspect to the film.

Usually games based off of movies usually suck bad, so instead of making it 'movie specific', why not just come out with counter parts that is somewhat based on elements of the movie and not really so much with the direct story line.

Of course, I could be wrong about this. It's just that I've seen way too many games adapted from movies that just wasn't worth the money.

Just my two cents.

Not all games based on movies are bad.. Some are actually pretty good. That new batman game is pretty good for instance. Others are casual, but still good.. Avatar has a game that is that is based on elements of the movie, and not so much a direct tie in.. Matrix was a direct tie in (which I don't think was a good idea, movies/games generally don't mix, just like I think 3D should be an option against 2D for 3D movies). But to me they are still just games, passing levels, cutscenes etc.. Looking ever more realistc, better voice overs/animation which make it look cooler etc.

But with Tron you have a universe, with rules that apply to this universe. It's this universe that makes it unique, the world is the playground. I can understand if a game has gameplay based on elements such as disc arena and cycles, and story and cutscenes.. and it's nice.. but if you see yourself immersed in the world, and walking around there, driving around there.. you have something bigger.. The coolness of the vehicles, ans the styleness (sterile/staticness) of the world, and just driving around in the world is 90% of the immersion. If you f.i. add dropships, or stuff that drops out of sky the rules are inconsistent with jets (and heli). If brake-flaps on cycles prove to be an issue (getting stuck all over), leave them out (same for jettrails).. And you need rare special vehicles (like jumbo in GTA:SA), maybe earn credits by driving cab..

With tron you need to think more globally.. Bigger than GTA:SA.. more abstract (no names of cities/not people everywhere, not hijacking/killing civilians).. Multiple ways to reach specific locations, be it on roads, underground passages or areas you can fly, limited without going flying freely. Progression through zones (unlocking new areas), sectors/coordinates/teleportation/beacons.. Rules/principles..

I think certain next-gen games will focus more on bigger areas/world (instead of levels), once technology gets fast enough (think exploring entire planets/flying to other planets in a solar system etc), or stuff like Rage/Fallout. With tron, being flat and abstract/stylish minimalisic/orderly, you already have a big benifit for going big/open ended (bigger than f.i. Rage/Fallout or any other, and you don't necessarilly meet people at bars/whatever, it's all very abstract and esoteric tron/computer with neon roads/highways/structures with huge rooms/corridors, underground sectors etc).. It's less complex.. It needs to drive/fly and flow.. Stay out in the open and you might get caught by a recogizer (or those stars in sky are observer-things), causing a carrier to teleport in (unleashing enemy jets, and which you can fly inside to explore.. maybe player is sole driver of carrier, or its on autopilot and the option to go to exit bay and fly out, do stuff in the world and return while on auto.. tanks/choppers to deploy, so you have to resort to underground.. Maybe there's a good vs evil thing or a war going on (and 'normal'/'good' people reside more underground (wher also bars etc can be found), while surface is more dangerous and reserved for emotionless/numb characters who go watch disc games).. Maybe you can chose to participate as ISO or as rebel or cybernaut (cycles/jets) or the other/gouverning side as recognizer-pilot, tanks/ , maybe everybody is equal (what i like).. retrothrusters..whatever.. Maybe there's multiple servers facilitating parallel universes (while in different space-time, similar looking/principles and infinte, or parallel universe in same universe, to which can teleport.. diff. colored atmospheres red/orange/purple, gasious/stormy, like far apart placed cities), there are trinity points (something that occures at a specific time) in which you are able to warp to other servers (there could be 1000s of tron worlds)... When thinking that large, you need to think in clusers (or server clusters).. When player is in range of you, he can communicate..

So long as they put the games in a MMORPG like Second Life has, for a PC game, I'll be happy. And it would be cool to have the Tron atmosphere in Blue Mars coming out soon. http://www.bluemarsonline.com/ The Beta client is open now also.

One could only imagine the fun you could have in that environment.

My gosh I hadn't noticed that. So it seems pretty obvious to me as I'm sure it does to you that these are Rez-In stations for guards/sentries. Good to see them returning to their roots with the Guard's Staff.

and in TRON 2.0 there was the nightclub called "The Progress Bar"...

Hmm...intresting. Did you notice anything in the concept test when the camera goes into a dramatic close up at Clu's face? In the sky there's these white star looking things that blink and move around.
