Seth Rogen's superhero flick "The Green Hornet" has been stung again.
Nicolas Cage, who was in talks to play a gangster bad-guy, has dropped out of the project after what The Hollywood Reporter calls fruitless negotiations with studio Columbia Pictures. The comes a week after filming began in Los Angeles.
The movie has suffered a series of setbacks, from original director Stephen Chow demoting himself to co-star and then dropping out altogether, to a series of delays in the movie's release date. Most recently, Disney moved its long-awaited sequel "Tron Legacy" to directly compete with "Hornet."

fruitless negitiations? i really hate how overpaid big name actors are, and the swollen egos that ensue. at this point in nick cage's life, you'd think he could just make movies because he loves being an actor, but i guess not.

Because someone is successful at what they do, they should do it for free?

of course not, just be reasonable.
then again, its not like being a good actor is a vital or even important occupation. We pay actors and sports stars millions and millions of dollars to essentially "play" for a living, while teachers, police officers and firefighters go without. I really hate how backwards our society's priorities are. that's all, i'm off of the soapbox order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill |

Why isn't it vital or important? We're on a forum about Tron, a thread specifically about an upcoming release. the level of excitement here is high. There are people on this forum who have been desperately hoping that such a film would get made. I think people might argue about teh importance in our society for athletic and artistic achievement.
Do actors and athletes get paid alot? A small percentage of them do. They also trade in their privacy so that others can be entertained. The work they do is theoretically highly specialized and they have no retirement plans.
I'm no Britney Spears fan. But look at what she has been through in recent years. Anything and everything she does will be in a haze of cameras and reported and dissected on multiple websites and television shows. She has no private life because an entitled populace won't let her have one.
You call it play? No. People who work in the entertainment industry work. They work hard. They sacrifice and spend money like crazy just in the hopes to be in a position to make those millions. And most simply make a livable wage. They make a gamble, and when it pays off, why should they not be entitled to their earnings?
There's a famous story about Picasso. A guy wanted him to do a drawing on a napkin. Said he'd pay for the drawing.
Picasso did a quick drawing on the napkin, handed it to the guy and said: "One million dollars, please."
The man was displeased. "A million dollars? That only took you thirty seconds!"
"Yes," said Picasso. "But it took me fifty years to learn how to draw that in thirty seconds."

That's why there's a news section where updates are posted. This is a discussion thread. And discussions drift.

Amen. I used to act and though I'm not exactly famous, I know how it feels. People who do entertainment industry work risk alot. Once a film flops everythings over for practically everyone who participated.
And we've been waiting FOREVER for this good news to get here. I practically cried when I saw the trailer.

Sounds to me as if Flynn's has manifested itself in the TRON universe??

Maybe this explains how Sark was able to play a Lightcycle game at Flynn's and then rez over to Sark's Carrier (in the beginning scene of Tron).
|
This brings to question if the TRON universe has just metamorphsed into a virtual exaggeration of the real world. Or, maybe Flynn does somehow have the original laser inside his old arcade and that's what Sean found behind the TRON arcade game, and the digital manifestation of Flynn's serves as an I/O Tower?
  |
Am I the only one who thinks this might be important?
  |
I tend to agree, Cam. I think that in TL, the arcade will serve as some sort of bridge between the real world and the digital world. Specifically, this is how I see it playing out (within my own overactive imagination, that is).
I think Kevin Flynn may have the Encom 511 mainframe in that room behind the TRON game. The way I see it, in the several years that passed between when Kevin took over as CEO and when he disappeared, he moved the mainframe to the arcade. Also, the digitizing technology (the laser) had improved in those same years that passed, so maybe there was some other more efficient method of digitization, or just a more compact laser (one that didn't require something the size of Lawrence Livermore Labs) that Kevin was able to fit into the hidden room there at the arcade. Since the mainframe was cut off from the outside world, when Kevin was digitized back into the digital world (into the mainframe), no one knew about the hidden room nor the whereabouts of Kevin Flynn. So the arcade gets boarded up, no one knows about the secret room, and the evolution of the digital world on the mainframe takes place over the next 20 years.
In that time, Kevin Flynn within the digital world recreates the arcade (which I think is some sort of I/O tower, a modem maybe?) in the digital realm. I'm thinking that even though the mainframe was cut off from the "Internet" per say, I think maybe there was a phone line attached to it which allowed Kevin to send the fax from the number within the arcade. When Sam finds the hidden room and enters, he discovers the mainframe and the "digitizing technology" his dad set up in there. He messes around with it, gets zapped into the mainframe just like his dad, and the movie takes off from there.
Of course, that may not be how it plays out at all. I'm just relaying the rambling ruminations of my poor little addled ADD brain. I'd love to hear what possibilities or ideas others have come up with.

Just remember that the negotiations may have concerned far more than $$$, including plot and character points as well producer credits and issues with locations, etc.
I'm not saying Cage hasn't become a prima-donna, just pointing out that there are other things that actors of reputation are able to request during production.

It looks like it's big enough for a person to stand inside, and those panels on the front look like doors. Some kind of transport, perhaps?

VS means that the song has the option to be combined with the other said song. I figured it was kinda relative since they're doing the soundtrack for Legacy.
