Is it just me, or did the announcer guy actually seem like he was forcing himself to do his job professionally - like maybe he's just not a fan of High School Musical at all and embarrassed to be there in front of an audience talking about it? You know - like when your good friend introduces you to his new girlfriend who's happens to be really ugly and smell a little ranky, but you don't want to make him feel bad, so when he asks if you think she's attractive you just say, "Sure" and smile while you try not to vomit.

When I saw this last year, I wasn't sure whether I should laugh or cringe. I think I ended up doing both.

Needless to say, the audience agreed with us. They thought the E3 2007 DIS DIMG presentation was craptacular.


Some highlights:

Hopper never smiles. Creepy.

Two volunteers have been brought on stage to sing. Don't recognize the song, and it seems like the volunteers don't either. Oh wait, there coming into their own for the chorus.

Wait a minute...THIS is who we heard rehearsing beforehand. These aren't volunteers at all. Disney is a sham!

The mood in the audience is a mix of incredulity, despair, and extreme embarassment.

Exactly. Companies that make games like this are the exact cause of crapware (yes, that is the official technical term for half-hearted games) on the Wii and DS. A lot of hardcore gamers are really starting to get tired of it and are begging Nintendo to put the "fun policy" from the 80's back into effect, but there's not much Nintendo can do if people are actually buying crapware.

The games market today on Nintendo consoles is exactly the same as it was for Atari in the 80's. Loads of crap games. The difference today is that people actually buy crapware, and here's why:

In 1981, people could tell that a game called "Tarmac Trouble" was not going to be fun.

Today, people buy games called "Wonder World Amusement Park" because it has the words "Amusement" and "Park" in the title.

I once heard the Angry Videogame Nerd say this (in his Back to the Future NES review):

That is very true, but the problem is that today, where we do have resources like IGN and EGM, companies are selling more and more gimped games and crapware than ever before. Why? Simple. All they have to do is say "this game is targeted for casual/non-gamers" in a promotional interview, not Harmonix it up, and BAM! There's at least enough sales to make a profit.

It's simple. Disney has no reason to stop making half-hearted crapware for the Wii and DS. They make enough money off of it to make a profit, and therefore Nintendo can't ban their crappy games. It'd be like this:

Sales money that goes to Nintendo: Hi there Iwata! I'm gonna settle in that there wallet of yours there and....
Iwata: NO! Your game is not fun enough! LEAVE!

I just noticed something about the video. When they're epic-failing at trying to get everyone to dance, did you notice how the two "volunteers" are talking to everyone in the audience like they're 4 years old?

Alos, those two "radomly selected volunteers" seemed awful sure of the choreograph, lyrics, etc.

MMM yea that supposedly took some time.. the whole jiggling thing and pom poms, but alas.. someone had a job to do..

heh. The point is, someone enjoyed whatever disney was paying for. lol. so Make a Tron movie worth watching you pom poms, don't make me cuss you.
