I was thinking that it'd be fun to some day have a live theatrical viewing of the movie Tron right here on Tron-Sector.com. The whole movie! Maybe play it a few times a day for a solid week, to give people a chance to view it in different time zones and view it multiple times. Or 24 hours a day for a week? I dunno. And then have these movie watching events a few times a year.
I bet Disney would probably never allow it, unless we charged admission and gave them the proceeds , but alas...I can dream, right? I've mocked up a concept for it. Maybe only members would be allowed to see and participate in the chat. Not sure if the movie itself would be opened up to the world (I say, "Why not?").
I've never seen or heard of this done before. Would it be a worldwide premier exclusive to play a movie over the internet like this and have it be like a theater experience? ... or have you seen this done before? I think it could be a great revenue generator... you know, to "air" old classic movies over the internet (charging a couple bucks admission). If you target "fan sites", you get people who enjoy the movie and get them watching and sharing the experience together. Or if many in the world attend, even those who aren't typical fan site members, then there's some $. One could make it a very festive occasion... and well worth the admission price. Just look at the sample list of attendees below, for example! Maybe Lisberger would join us all online for a viewing some day
Yes, the chat information could be minimized...and the movie brought to full-screen. I thought chat bubbles could pop out of people's heads in the theater (instead of having a chat window), like that's us sitting there... but not sure if that'd be too distracting? Might be an option anyways.

(laughs) That's an interesting comment you have "me" saying there, and I'm amused that I'm one of the ones you chose to put on the picture in the first place... :P
(In actuality, I don't think I've even heard of K-Power Magazine...but I DO have authentic 1982 articles about the movie from _other_ magazines. Heh.)
That would totally rock, though, seriously, it would. Too bad we can't actually do it. Although I kind of wish I could see Tron on a REAL movie screen. You know? I never, ever have. I just _know_ it would be awesome on toast to see on a big screen, and I've never gotten a chance to. Ah well.

Or what else would be interesting as well. And I remember going for a showing of another theatre show was murder mystery in high school. called " arsinic and old lace" theatre type. But have cut scene of the light cycles, or areas of where there was a reco on the large screen. And combine the two together with the actors. Mind you it is an idea but combining with this should be interesting no? Call me crazy insane.

Right on! Nice to see everyone's comments I think it would be awesome to see the lights dim and the curtains rolled back to reveal the movie !
Actually, maybe advertising would be the way to go with this. Have a short intermission where advertisers could show their stuff... or have subtle advertising links at the bottom or side of screen. This way, the revenue doesn't come some much (or at all) from admission fees; but rather, from advertisers.
At any rate, thanks for the comments. It's fun to think about anyways and I'm glad I could make some people laugh

Haaaaaaaa!
That's an awesome idea, Traahn!
How cool would it be to kick back and enjoy some of Alan's popcorn with the rest of the TRON-Sector crew all in our own virtual theater together - watching the film together, commenting on it together, laughing and enjoying it together!
One thing that always makes a great movie even better is the experience of enjoying it along with fellow friends and fans of the same film.
This is an awesome idea. If I had some start-up scratch and some know-how as how to start up something like this - I'd go for it myself (and of course, insert a short video or two of mine before the show ). As we become more of a planetary virtual community - I think we'll see more things like this become popular. The ability to share an experience like this with friends anywhere on the planet would be a popular past time, I'm sure.
BTW - I love your comments in the graphic mock-up! That's exactly the kind of thing I would say too... wait a minute - I just SAID something like that in another thread! He he he
I LOVE this website! I get a smile (and often a good laugh) every time I stop by. Thanks for today's BIG smile and laugh, Traahn!

(greetings) Yeah, when I think of you, I picture 1980s magazines filled with Tron stuff because you posted all those interesting Tron articles from magazines when you first joined the Sector! I doubt K-Power magazine ever talked about Tron, but it was one of the only '80s magazine names I could remember and thought you might have one or two of them.

I think we could actually do this some day. I won't give up hope. Regarding on a REAL movie screen... yes, you should definitely do that at some point. I bet the opportunity will arise one of these days for you. Again, don't give up hope!

Yes, several times! I get tired of waiting for Tron to air on the Sci-Fi channel. There's just something very cool about seeing Tron on TV, or in a movie theater... as opposed to just popping in the DVD into my DVD player. By airing it over the internet, especially with all of you, I think it would be a very nice, memorable occasion -- similar to seeing it on TV or in a movie theater.

Trann Wrote id anyone join? I saw your post an hour after you posted and I was way busy at the time. Regarding the film, one thing I thought would be hard is sync'ing up everyone's schedule so we could mostly all watch at the same time. But if we coordinated it on a weekend, I'd be totally willing to stay up until 4am or get up at 5am to watch if I had to! I was hoping all of you would do the same. I would totally adjust my schedule to fit in so we could all watch it at least once together! Heh, I liked the quote I made for you... "Reminiscing" because you are a big reminiscer! That's an awesome idea, Traahn! I'd definitely be right on it if it happened.
The easiest (and least costly in terms of royalties to Disney) way I can think of is just to use Live Chat while everyone plays the movie simultaneously from their own DVD. The only problem is that the PAL DVD is 4 minutes shorter than the NTSC DVD, due to the difference in frame rates; so those with PAL copies will run faster and soon become out of sync.
Still, it's a really cool idea - even cooler if we all could pull it off somehow!order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

Thanks, Traahn! I have studied the ultimate book, "Pimp: The Story of My Life" by Iceberg Slim, the man who invented the game!
Plus, I'm a student of the Hughes Brothers' brilliant doc, "American Pimp," so I know I've earned my PhD - Pimpin' Hoes Degree!
Legit, though, if we could make something like this happen, I'd gladly chip in some moolah to make it come to fruition! Keep us posted should any further developments arise!
