Friday the 1957 Plymouth Belvedere time capsule will be revealed. For those who don't know the history:
A brand new 1957 Plymouth Belvedere was lowered into the ground and burined in a time capsule, along with other trinkets, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as part of the state's semicentennial. The time capsule serves as a prize to a 50 year contest. The car and its contents will be awarded to the person who most accurately predicted, back in 1957, the population of Tulsa circa 2007. The winner, or winner descendent, must still be living in the state to obtain the prize.
Everyone is on edge on the condition of the car at this point. The vault has already been dug up and opened, and it had water in it. The car was encased in several layers of purportedly water-tight material. Hope the seal kept, or else this Belvedere will be in some horrific shape.

I just saw a video of the car being lifted out of the vault.
Unfortunately, they found that water had at one point filled the vault, but because the car was wrapped up in waterproof materials they think it may not be in bad shape.
I guess now all that remains is to unwrap her and hope for the best!

Apparently, the car has now been removed from the vault and transported, but hasn't yet been removed from its wrapping.
But, so far, it's not looking too good, as this photo from its removal shows, with one exposed tail-fin:

Aw man, that sucks.
They should have wrapped it up and stored it on one of those airplane graveyards in Arizona instead of burying it. it probably would've been perfect today.

Thanks for posting the pictures Sketch.
I don't think a restoration would be possible because it's probably completely rusted through. What a shame.

Welcome. This Time Capsule car has always interested me greatly.
Yeah. Looking at more of the pitcutres, I'm thinking the same about the car not being able to be restored. I've read they checked the oil and when they put the dipstick back in, it went poked through the oil pan. Chrysler is very interesting in getting the car or their museum, which is where I think it belongs at this point.
This yahoo article sums up the whole event vey well. Can read about all the contents of the Time Capsule that did survive in the car. Ya know, it's funny how you look at a photo from the late '50s, and see the object in the old photograph what it looks like today. It kinda like feels like looking at your dad's old photos (when he was a kid) and you go, "Is this the same person?" (I hope that made sense )

The fact that they got the bumper to shine w/o pits and also that it's able to stand on it's wheel's means that it'll probably be totally restored - albeit with probably 50% new material.
I scuba'd a japanese zero that had been bumped around a bit by attempted salvagers, and it had a chrome shock absorber that was shiney new, and even the body & cockpit still had 80% of it's original structure. And that sat in saltwater for 48 years. No wonder we buy Japanese cars, they last forever.
If that car has that much material to work with, you can bring it back to life...
Too bad you couldn't just pop some oil & gas into that car and drive it out of the box, wouldnt that have been something?

Aww - that's a real shame. But still, it was a million to one for it to come out in pristine condition, even with 'new car smell'. It happens to everything that's buried underground - all these time capsules come out waterlogged.abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion
