Yeah, I did. It used to come on Saturday afternoons after 60's Star Trek re-runs. I love that style of animation.

Oh, yeah, I've seen the Pink Panther cartoons. I remember liking those, what I saw of them.
In other news, using HTML--which I do know, but didn't know if it worked _here_ or not until recently--I have now made the two links in my first post on this topic, clickable. I could repost them here but that would be spammy. Anyway, go, look! I mean, if you want to. (shrug)

Wow!
Just WOW!
I think this is my new FAVORITE (not-TRON related) thread!
MutoidMan - awesome selection of cartoons! Like you, I also watched Jem from time to time 'cause she was such a hottie... for a cartoon... you know what I mean! I loved the way the ladies looked in the 80's too. Ahh, the memories.
Man, I could froth at the keyboard ALL DAY LONG about my memories of these awesome cartoons and love for them... but I'm sure my fingers would fall right off my hands if I attempted that.
I totally LOVE this thread!

I did "froth at the keyboard" (hee) when I first saw this...but then realised how long it was going to be and put it in a seperate text file. My fingers didn't fall off, though--I'm used to doing lots of typing at a time, and quickly. Comes from the days when I used to program/write webpages on a faulty WebTV with a tendency to turn itself _off_ at random times, with NO warning--if I ever wanted to get anything done, I had to type SUPER FAST and hit Send/Enter/whatever as soon as possible!
Many, many were the days when I lost HOURS worth of careful word choosing in a thoughtful, long letter to a good friend or a whole essay describing something I cared about, to this monster. You could hear SHRIEKS of frustration echoing throughout the house as a common occurrence back then. But could you blame me?
Seriously, I think that thing was the main thing responsible for my WPM speed rising from 38 to like, 85...
I think it's about 90 now. :P
I still have the notes that I wrote down about the cartoon intros, if anybody really wants to see me gush on like an idiot...but it'll have to be on a seperate page somewhere (on one of my websites--don't worry, I have tons). Heh.

I checked out some of this thread yesterday while on break at work. I WANTED to froth at the keyboard then, but couldn't do so from work. SO many cool memories brought back. So many things we all have in common here.
I'm actually glad I couldn't post from work yesterday. I would have totally just gushed and gushed and gone in to a "I love the 80's and I love all you guys and I love big hair and peace to all my 80's loving friends..." mode. The kind of thing that usually leads to a group hug that can be a little uncomfortable for some.

I'm not sure how group-hug-inducing mine would be..it's just my individual reactions to each cartoon intro and some of them are "Heard of it, never watched it" "Never heard of it", or even "I knew about it but AVOIDED it 'cos it was 'Eeewww, BOY stuff!' that my _brother_ liked." :P
I would make several changes to the line-up if I was making this...I'd take out the Starr people and Gilligan's Planet and at least one of the robot things (probably Mighty Orbots, 'cos I know at least a little of the other three but not that one) and probably put in things like:
--Smurfs! Super-famous, super-80s memory, gotta have Smurfs.
--Count Duckula after the Danger Mouse theme song, as it was the spin-off from that show and I watched Duckula earlier (_knew_ about Danger Mouse but didn't actually get around to seeing it until just recently) and, frankly, like it better. Duckula is one of my whole family's favourite shows EVER in the _universe_.
--Dic is already pretty well-represented by Inspector Gadget and the Littles, but I personally was way INTO Rainbow Brite for some reason, so I'd have to include that in my personal '80s Cartoon Montage.
--THUNDERCATS! HOOOOO!! Come on, how can you not have the Thundercats?!
--Dinosaucers. It's obscure, but hey, so are some of the ones that did make it in!
--After Pac-Man I would've included the Saturday Morning Supercade--I'd love to see if I still remember any of _that_ theme song.
--Wasn't there also a Garfield Saturday Morning show in the '80s? Or was that early '90s...I think there were two--just Garfield, and then the Garfield and Friends later. I think the _first_ one might count as '80s. I'd put that after Heathcliff.
--And of course, Jem. Not sure where exactly, but she'd have to be there somewhere.
But it was still cool the way it was, of couse. I admit, some of these made me wave my arms in the air and go "WHOOO! YEAH!", including the D&D Cartoon, DuckTales, the Littles, etc. I used to wake up super early in the morning to watch Pac-Man, that's how much of a budding videogame fanatic I was. (And I was so into Q-Bert that when I had to go to the hospital in the second grade and was there through my birthday, almost EVERY SINGLE ONE of the hand-made birthday cards my class sent me had Q-Bert on them somewhere... :P They knew me!)
Trivia bit: Did you know, there's a late DuckTales episode where Scrooge and Fenton get "turned into an electronic impulse" and _sucked inside a computer_?! Seriously! They get menaced by a videogame, sail down a river of energy on a weird-looking cobbled-together boat thing, run away from a ravening "glitch", and travel to somewhere else via "phone modem" and the whole nine yards!
I should do up a page on it--every TRON fan needs to know about this episode, even if they can't actually watch it. I just fell on the FLOOR when Gyro started explaining about the "digitizing ray"...

Ah, my other kindred spirit of the 80's has chimed in! I was wondering what was keeping you from this latest round of 80's nostalgia.
You know Jem was a babe, no doubt about it. I got to watching Jem first when it was featured in Sunbow/Marvel's Super Sunday show, which was apparently retitled Super Saturday in the markets that showed it on Saturday. Remember "Robotix, Bigfoot, and Jem"? Jem quickly became popular enough to get its own full-length cartoon, and I followed it.
Anyway, I don't know how this one slipped my mind the other day, but it's most definitely one of my favorites.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some, too. I knew a _bit_ about some other cutesy ones, such as Care Bears and My Little Pony but never watched them that much...(Rainbow Brite was technically anime and as such, even in dubbed form, still had a bit of darkness/actual plot to many episodes, underneath the cute--I think that's one of the reasons I watched _that_ one and not the others of its basic kind.)
Then there's like Wuzzles and Shirt-Tails, which I hate to admit but I watched them. I even used to have a little-kid-style jigsaw puzzle of the Wuzzles. Ya know--only 60 pieces, but they're big--one of those.
Then there's those long combo-shows of cartoons they used to show on USA, such as...Cartoon Express!--that's the name. I watched that in the '80s but I think most of the Hanna-Barbera cartoons _in_ it were from the '70s. I could name THEM for a while alone. Speed Buggy, Josie and the Pussycats, Sport Billy, The Roman Holidays, and my personal favourite: Jana of the Jungle.
And to put my money where my beak is...

I don't remember the "Super Sunday" (or Saturday) show. I'm not sure it played here. I also don't remember Jem being bundled with other shows. I only ever say her in her own show - I never got to see the 3-in-1 show you speak of. I have vague memory of Robotix and Bigfoot... but I may be thinking of the live action Bigfoot of the 70's. I can't remember what the cartoon one looked like off hand.
MutoidMan Wrote:Anyway, I don't know how this one slipped my mind the other day, but it's most definitely one of my favorites.

Bionic 6? Geez, I don't remember that one either. It either didn't play around here or I didn't take an interest in it at the time. Funny - it seems exactly like the kind of show I would have been in to. I just don't remember it though. Odd. I probably missed out on a cool show.
Saturday morning was a magical time back in the late 70's and early 80's for me. I used to always get bummed out when American Bandstand started at noon each Saturday. That usually marked the end of "magic time". There was some live action half hour show that I used to love too - it was different each week, not the same show or cast. Forget the name of it. I think that may have started at noon on ABC... or maybe it was 11:30AM? Memory failing me. I don't remember the name of the show, but I clearly remember the music they used to play during its intro... that's a bit hard to describe though. One episode I recall the name of was "The Red Room Riddle" and it really spooked me as a kid! Cool show, it was. Maybe it was called "The ABC Saturday Morning Special" or something like that.
Shows like Inspector Gaget, Jem, Thundercats, and Battle of the Planets were on weekdays after school in the mid 80's. Well, BotP was late 70's, but the others I watched in the mid 80's after school each afternoon... when I could. I don't remember them being part of my Saturday morning regimen of cartoons - they were watched in rerun for me.
SOB I miss the 80's! The music, the styles (well, many of them), the shows... there was a vibe going on then that just ROCKED! Early in to the 90's I really started missing the 80's. The 90's sucked in comparison. Didn't have as much style, the music wasn't nearly as cool (some of it was), blah. And I don't know what this decade is called, but it ain't nearly as cool or fun as the 80's... though I must say I enjoy the modern technology of today a lot more. If we were still stuck with 80's BBS services, it is unlikely we'd all be chatting about this with each other.
Interesting how so many of us here at TRON-Sector are such fans of the 80's. Even many of the younger members who were not yet alive seem to have a fascination of sorts with that decade. I think that says a lot.

Yeah, I'm with you there...I'm totally into the newer technology. Ironically, in fact, if it wasn't for the modern computer/Internet and whatnot stuff, I wouldn't be able to watch some of these _'80s_ shows!
For example: The other day, I was sitting there in my room, watching "Automan" (which I completely missed when it was new*) _on my computer_, after having _downloaded it off the Internet_...and it gets to this scene where Walter is trying very hard to explain the concept of a "phone modem" to some other characters.
...
FACEFAULT!
Oh, man. You gotta love it. You gotta _love_ it. You could eat the irony in that situation with a spoon...no, you could stand a _fork_ up in it! Oh my heck... (shakes head)
...Notorious
*But wouldn't have liked as much then as I do now...now that I've met other characters such as Mr. Data and later holograms, and can better see how some of the writing on the show was ahead of its time, etc.

I'd be remiss if I didn't comment on each of the cartoons in Qix77's original post - sorry I took so long Qix - so here I go:
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Please, it's frikin' He-Man for crying out loud; of course I loved it!
She-Ra Princess of Power: Hordak is not nearly as awesome as Skeletor, but I still liked it.
Inspector Gadget: Don Adams doing Gadget's voice made this cartoon for me, being a fan of his work on Get Smart as Maxwell Smart (agent 86), who coincidentally also used gadgets. The theme song is also extremely catchy.
Ghostbusters: I know I watched a few episodes, but I didn't like this anywhere near as much as I liked...
The Real Ghostbusters: Wow, this was a great cartoon. Talk about taking a good idea and running with it.
BraveStarr: Heck yeah. A Native American space marshall with mystical powers who has for a partner a huge cyborg horse named Thirty/Thirty - most likely named after the .30-30 lever-action Winchester rifle - who carries a monster rifle he calls 'Sara Jane', and they fight bad guys on the frontieer planet New Texas? What's not to like?
Heathcliff and Marmaduke: I can't for the life of me remember this one.
Heathcliff: This I remember. I think I watched this more for the junkyard cats and the hot girlfriend of the little boss junkyard cat than for Heathcliff. Like TheReelTodd, I think the theme song was really catchy.
Gilligan's Planet: Don't remember it, and to be honest from the way the intro comes off, I think I'm glad.
Voltron: A la my He-Man comment: Please, it's frikin' Voltron for crying out loud; of course I loved it! BTW, Sven > Allura.
Mighty Orbots: Another cool cartoon with an awesome theme song. And you haven't heard the great extended version of the theme...
Danger Mouse: Looks cool, but unfortunately I was never aware of its existence.
Disney's Duck Tales: Please, it's frikin' Duck Tales for crying out loud; of course I loved it! Seriously, this is far and away Disney's best cartoon series ever in my opinion. Great theme song, also.
Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers: Only a hair away from being evey bit as great as Duck Tales. Another awesome Disney effort.
The Littles: I remember this one. It's possible I watched an episode or two but I don't think I liked it.
PAC-MAN: What self-respecting video game addict didn't watch PAC-MAN? However, the addition of Super PAC-MAN killed the show for me. Anybody remember the Christmas special, in which Santa even gave presents to the ghosts?
Captain N The Game Master: What the?! Don't remember it whatsoever.
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show: Didn't watch it.
The Super Mario Bros.: Again, didn't watch it.
The Legend of Zelda: Yet again, didn't watch it.
Thundarr the Barbarian: Please, it's frikin' Thundarr for crying out loud; of course I loved it! This is just awesome to an almost fantastic degree.
G.I.JOE A Real American Hero: Please, it's frikin' G.I.JOE for crying out loud; of course I loved it! I also followed the awesome comic book. This was simply cartoon gold in my eyes. I ran home from school for this.
The Transformers: Please, it's frikin' Transformers for crying out loud; of course I loved it! This was another cartoon with a comic book that I collected. More cartoon gold. Ran home from school for this, also.
Challenge of the GoBots: At first, I unfairly dismissed the Gobots out of hand as a rip-off of the Transformers. A few of my friends convinced me to give them a chance, and after doing so and watching a few episodes I had a change of heart. Heck, I even bought a couple of the figures. So yeah, I also liked this one.
Beetlejuice: I like the movie, and was really surprized at how well the cartoon turned out. A fun, kinda smart movie t

Okay, this is gonna be long. But you knew that. I mean, hey. It's me.
He-Man, She-Ra: Never really watched either of these, but I do remember that my friend Rhiannon had like EVERY ACTION FIGURE THAT EXISTED for this cartoon universe and we'd sometimes go upstairs to her room and play with them, making up our own stories in which I'm sure I mangled everybody's personalities _so_ bad that actual fans with knowledge of the show would've either fallen over laughing or strangled me. Sometimes we played the board game "Dungeon" instead. Meanwhile, the adults were playing D&D and munching popcorn downstairs. Normally we stayed downstairs too, and played Atari or Coleco, or watched the MTV countdown or sometimes Dr. Who. And then fell asleep on the couch with song by, for example, Journey wafting in softly from the next room. I kid you not--these memories of mine are so '80s, it seems like somebody deliberately _made them up_ for some retro-nostalgia movie, such as "The Wedding Singer"--they're so packed full of references they don't seem _real_. But they were!
Anyway, as for She-Ra, the little sister of my best friend from across the street was way into that. Imagine this cherubic little blonde-curled 3-year-old holding a stick dramatically aloft and singing out: "SHE-RA! PRINCESS OF POW-AH!" It was great. :P
Inspector Gadget: I watched this one fairly often--it was one of those cartoons I generally liked, but didn't get "INTO". I only found out the similarities to "Get Smart" _later_ when we got Nick at Nite. True fact: I have a copy of the Get Smart movie taped off TV...and guess what else is on the same tape? My off-a-Disney-preview copy of...wait for it...TRON!
Ghostbusters: Saw it once, went "Eeew, _that's_ not the Ghostbusters! Who are they trying to kid?" and immediately changed the channel.
The Real Ghostbusters: however, we watched a lot and I can still remember some favourite lines and moments. Wouldn't at all mind seeing it again now.
BraveStarr, Heathcliff and Marmaduke: No, never saw these. (Or heard of them.)
Heathcliff: THIS one we watched a lot, and the theme song is not only really catchy, I just found out that I kinda _still remembered it_ in the back of my brain after all this time!
Gilligan's Planet: I've heard Star Trek: Voyager jokingly referred to as "Gilligan's Island in Space" and I think that's as close as I want to come to this show. :P (I LIKE Voyager; don't get me wrong.)
Voltron: Heard of, never saw.
Mighty Orbots: Never heard of.
Danger Mouse: I remember the other kids at the bus stop in the morning, in the early '80s, sometimes talking about this, so it must've made it over to some channel in Iowa fairly soon after it started in England. But I didn't see it until recently, and then, mainly because it's the show that Count Duckula--one of my favourites of all time!--spun off from.
It's a witty, very strange, at times very funny British cartoon that kinda reminds me of "The Avengers" in basic feel, in ways I can't quite describe. But it does. I reccommend it...but I would have to still reccommend Duckula somewhat more.
Disney's Duck Tales: I did not catch up with this one until a couple years ago, on Toon Disney, but the fact that I MADE UP A WHOLE FREAKIN' WEBSITE ABOUT IT might clue you in to how I finally reacted to the show...
(Out of the "duck trilogy" of shows, though, I'd have to say Darkwing is probably my fave. But that's early '90s.)
Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers: Haven't really seen it yet, but hear about it like crazy from the same friends who reccommended all the other Disney series to me that I have since enjoyed, so I'm gonna look into it one of these days, for sure.
The Littles: When I was a kid, I liked it because...I'm not sure why in detail, but I do remember kinda identifying with Lucy (who had similar colouring and hairstyle to me at that age...and was about the _same_ age) and that Dinky was the one who m There are only two rules for success in life:
