Cool! That also looks like it could be awesome concept art for a Tron RPG!

a war would a give a great new edge to tron methinks! now if there was a modding tool for age of empires i could change the models and names and make a 'age of programs'.........

I have heard that all of SLG's Disney-liscenced have been performing poorly, with major drop-offs in sales after their first issues; poorly to the point that Dan Vado can quip that making orginal material off of a Disney property is like waging a land war in Asia: things one should not do.

http://danvado.livejournal.com/3414.html

He says Gargoyles has potential, but in black-and-white. (OK, but can you see Tron that way?)

This makes me somewhat concerned for things on the Tron side.

Then, Dan turns around and says "Tron did pretty well for the first couple of issues."

Major drop offs in sales after the first issue are pretty much the norm in the industry.

JJ Gregarius Wroteoorly to the point that Dan Vado can quip that making orginal material off of a Disney property is like waging a land war in Asia: things one should not do.

I think he's saying he would not do it twice. That comment wasn't really about the sales but about bureaucracy. Though I have no doubt that if the sales were better he would be less concerned about the rest. In twenty years of publishing, SLG has never ventured outside of creator owned titles before. Licensed titles requires an infrastructure that SLG does not have. Everyone in the editorial department is having to work three times as hard just to maintain, and they were a short staffed company to begin with. Disney has a time consuming approval process. Though it's funny, for as much time as the process takes, no one has asked for any changes yet.

JJ Gregarius Wrote:He says Gargoyles has potential, but in black-and-white. (OK, but can you see Tron that way?)

Oh sure. In fact, I wanted the series to be black and white. The reality of the comics industry is that anything that looks vaguely like manga outsells non-manga dramatically.

JJ Gregarius Wrote:This makes me somewhat concerned for things on the Tron side.

Don't worry too much. Things aren't great, I'll admit. But the license is already paid for. This means we're actually looking to expand on Tron material published beyond the current series. As a possibility anyway.

Black and White?!

I just couldn't imagine a Tron comic without color. That would be a crime. A crime, I tells ya!

But it's good to hear from the head honcho of SLG that Tron is doing okay. Sounds like it's one of the better performing Disney properties in comic form.

Well steel yourself for the unimaginable. This series will remain in color. But IF we do any concurrent publications, they will likely be in black and white. Economics dictate it to be so.

There are only four Disney books with SLG. I'd say this one ranks number 2 in sales. You can't beat the Gargoyles fans for devotion.

I'll confess here and now that alot of the battle scene stuff has been left up to the mind of Mike Shoykhet, the artist. He's incredibly imaginative. The only real input Eric and myself have had is in directing him to some movies that have good medieval war footage. My personal hobby is medieval military history and I wanted to capture a bit of that flavor for the battle. Kind of the historical progression of the roman gladiator fell of the film, while also a visual acknowledgment of the medieval war style video gaming that's so popular.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Of course. That's why war games are so popular.

I always felt that there were two directions things could have gone in for Tron. The character, that is. Work his way into the lair of the MCP by guile, or rally the free systems together for a direct assault.

I'm releived to read Mr. Vado's blog, it's proof that I wasn't crazy back then. Disney IS difficult to work with.

My lesson costed me thousands of dollars and I'm certain a part of me died in the whole process. Live and learn.

Rest in Peace Tron, we hardly knew ye.

-=C=-

P.S. I'd buy Gargoyles in B&W. Make it Tokyopop size and I'm there.
