I'm 40. Do I win? In 1982, I was one of those kids pumping millions of quarters into those games. I think that's why I wear a wrist brace now.
P.S. Thank SLG for making the comic and to BVG for making the game. I literally waited more than 20 years for those.

How old do you have to be to be considered "old"...? I'm usually shy about saying my real age on the 'net...not because I'm ashamed of it, but because most messageboards seem to be inhabited mostly by teenagers, and I feel kind of embarrassed, like the goofy old codger adult who should really know better, trying to be "cool", or something. That, and I act younger than I am--in a bad way, like, "immature". As long as people think I AM a teenager my behaviour can pass; when they know my real age it's like "What's _wrong_ with you?" :P
Anyway. Let's just say I was alive when the movie came out, but I was a little kid. I first started going to arcades when I was so little my dad had to pick me up so I could reach the controls! I remember learning to program in BASIC, that "turtle" thing (which I would always program to do some really hideously long unending design and then just walk away, heh). I remember when our school first got its (gasp!) computers...2 Commodore 64s that cost 2,000 dollars each (or so they said) and we were absolutely NOT TO TOUCH THEM unless the teacher said so, and with the teacher watching. They were wheeled around on carts to be shared with different classrooms on different days.
I remember owning an Atari 2600, and I had a friend who had a Coleco. My favourite games were Centipede, Star Raiders, River Raid, Mario Bros and WingWar. I remember going over to my friend's house and listening to the adults play D&D in the next room and cracking up, while we played Atari and Coleco, sometimes watched Dr. Who or the MTV countdown, and falling asleep on the couch while one of her cats batted her little brother's Rubik's Cube around the room. A very '80s memory...
I'm kind of borderline. I didn't come in after computers were already common and popular, but I don't remember those _big_ floppy disks of the '70s either. I grew up right as things were changing, and learned how to really spell with my own brain _before_ word processors and spellcheckers were introduced to my later classrooms. I never actually used a computer that had to be programmed before it'd even work at all, but then I didn't get any computer of my own until the early '90s.
Let's just say I'm old enough to know better but still young enough not to care, and leave it at that. :P

So what you're saying here is that despite your fears of being viewed as old, you're actually quite young.
Everything is relative, after all.

Well, I still THINK of myself as young...ish. It's just that I usually tend to be older than most other people on the 'net (at least, at the particular sites that I go to) and it makes me feel older than I actually am...
I dunno. Some people grow up, and some just grow older. I seem to have ended up in the second category. :P I don't _think_ like, "I'm An Adult Now, I Have To Be Serious" and instead keep having fun nerding out on messageboards and watching my favourite sci-fi stuff.
And why not? (shrug)
Anyway, most boards I go to, almost NOBODY there was even _born_ by '82. Seriously. That's one reason this place is a breath of fresh air, for me. For once, I'm not the Grandma! :P

Twenty, to be twenty-one this July.
Seems to me I'm about in the middle of the fan-group. There are the teeny squirts (13, 14, etc.) and the Old Guys (*waves at the old guys*). And then the middle-ish people, such as me.
*starts singing "Stuck In the Middle"*
Oh, and hey, Pulsewoman, I feel for you. I joined a forum once (Pokemon, if anyone must know), and people my age were the very, very oldest on the board. I mean, I think there was one guy who was twenty-one, but other than that, it was all twelve- and thirteen-year-old kids.
I felt all Grandma-y. It was weird. o.O

And on that note:
From 8Bit Joystick.com:The Degenatron : It can Even Take Quarters! One of the greatest and most subtle brilliant features of GTA is the radio stations. The commercial parody skits that they do are a gut buster and hands down my favorite one is for the Degenatron video game system from GTA Vice City (which is set in an early 1980's Miami-esque Vice City - MM). Now Rockstar Games actually put together some spiffy flash games of what a Degenatron emulator would look like. Now I will never go to school again! |

It seems like almost everyone is either over 30 or under 20. I'm 28 though. Almost 30, I guess. Old enough to remember the Intellivision and Maze-A-Tron
