This is very interesting. A read from 'Time' lists a bunch of over rated and over hyped stuff that didn't go the way everyone said it would... and one of em is the PS3... or at least they say... Here is a part of the artical.
"The big story in computer games this year was HOW TO BLOW A HUGE LEAD, by Sony. Its PlayStation 2 was the champ in the last round of the console wars. This time Sony bet on a chip called the Cell and a disc format called Blu-ray. They're probably awesome, but how would anybody know? The PS3 is hideously expensive - it goes for up to $600 - and Sony manufactured only a piddling few hundred thousand for the U.S., fewer for Japan. Plus it's hard to write games for; the launch titles were lame. You know you're in trouble when you get beat by something called a Wii."
Read the rest here. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1570831,00.html
Also... It looks like the PC market may be reviving itself once again due to the upcoming titles of 2007... Plus rumor has it that "Kingdom Hearts", "Halo 2", and a bunch of other hot console titles are finding a new home on the PC. "Yeah for our side..." - Flynn |

Yes. Sony has blown it several times in the past year. The PSP is a prime example. They have countered homebrew attempts at EVERY angle, but then refuse to develop anything else for the PSP. The browser is still old technology, and you have to actually HAVE a PS3 to download PSOne games for the PSP. It’s like they want you to own their stuff, but will try to make it as painful an experience as it possibly can be.
Sony did not only share the holiday console debacle. There were no Wii's to be found this holiday season either. The only console that I ever saw in a store was the X-Box 360.
I'll buy a PS3 later... when the titles warrant it. If they don't and Sony gets out of the console market, I still wont turn to the PC for games. I'll probably just get a 360.

Turns out that someone hacked Sony's firmware so it can run /any/ psx isos without needing to get them over the PS3.
Meaning that people can actually burn a copy of their *own* psx games and convert it in the form of a psp game to play on it. o.O
I find it interesting how the homebrew community can come up with wacky solutions... Sony SHOULD have been doing this but alas, they're just not really paying attention.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Here's my gameplan for the dilema:
first, the info as I see it:
okay so it's early 20006 and microsoft releases the
XBox 360
and everyone want one cause its like 1080i and it works well and its fun, its got all the gadgets, and the price comes up at
an affordable $400
where I live. So, September comes around and in the same week, Sony and Nintendo release
the Wii and the PS3
The Wii has a whole new approach on gaming and it's games are considerably fun and it price is
an affordable $400
OKay, The PS3 has the same type of play as pretty much all of their consoles but, Holy Bit! 1080p graphics! and, Holy bit! It games are firggin' awesome! and Holy Bit! It plays Blu-ray! and holy bit! it has internet access! Wait a minute, what? I already have a computer with IE7 or Firefox. Why do I need that? Well to download more stuff of course. But why? There's already all da shiz of stuff on this PS3. Oh and then ther's the price a
friggin $600!
I can see how it's worth that much. I still aint paying that much.
now, the real gameplan:
okay so I get an XBox 360 for christmas: done
then I play trhe crap out of it until Nintendo comes out with the next version of the Wii: not done
And finally by then, the PS3 will be like $300 and I'll buy it: not done
That looks like it will work to me, that is assuming neither nintendo or sony go out of beezwaks.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill onlineabortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Yes, however to do that you need to run custom firmware, which writes directly to the flash memory on the PSP. This means there is a possibility to "brick" your PSP.
I'm not quite willing, yet, to have anything write to flash on my PSP, being that if I brick it, I aint getting a new one any time soon. There are other features about it that I would like to have and don't make the risk worthwhile.
I do, however, run an eLoader for firmware 2.7 which can run eBoots for emulators like NES, Genesis, GBA etc. etc. This doesn’t write to flash at all, so there is no risk involved.
The point of my post though, is that Sony has worked REALLY hard in trying to prevent this kinda stuff. They keep failing but they're trying. They've tried harder to counter homebrew than in developing anything worthwhile for the PSP.

It does seem that way... sigh.
It would be nice if they would just wake up and realize that the psp offers so much more than they planned on.

I have to believe at some level that Sony wanted the PSP to be a UMD movie delivery system. When that failed, they realized that it wasn't going to be the cash cow they'd hoped and made it the "red headed stepchild" of the Sony family. We'll see what happens in 2007. I hope I am wrong on this. I'll glady eat crow.

It's really sad to hear someone say that.
Well, you won't catch me buying any of the consoles. The only one that even remotely interests me is the Wii.
Next year will be a big comeback for PC gaming. Finally Microsoft is getting serious about the PC with Games for Windows. They've allowed the PC market to erode something fierce, by placing all their attention on the Xbox 360.
And, absolutely, Sony has blown it. They became way too arrogant because of their lead. They thought people would buy the PS3 no matter how much it cost, or how few titles were available for it at launch time.
They fail.

Flavor.... Thats what it comes down to.
If PS3 is your thing.. good
If 360... good
If Wii... good
I'll be emulating all three within the next 5 years or so on my PC... (if someone writes good emulators)... lol
I understand, Boingo, where you are coming from about not wanting to get into PC gaming. It's super expensive... but I'm really into it because I'm an enthusiast... and a UT freak.

Well,
It's a couple of weeks after Christmas, and the Playstation 3 is now readily available. I see them stacked up in Target and Best Buy. However, the Wii is still MIA.
I guess we know who won this war. This also is making me nervous about possibly dropping $600 on a console that is not being purchased by anyone and may go nowhere.

I look at it more as a battle over Christmas 2006... but there is no telling what the future may hold...
After re-reading my posts here and in other areas, I feel as if I come off as a Sony basher... but in all truth, I'm not. I may not buy ANYTHING Sony, but that doesn't mean that I hate the company. I have loads of respect for them.
I don't think they are struggling yet. I think that Sony may have a few tricks up their sleeve and might do something amazing during the 2nd quarter of 2007.
Nintendo, on the other hand, is in the lead for now... and they may very well keep the lead if they keep playing their cards right.
Both are very smart companies and survived the test of times. What it comes down too is 'Who provides the best games'... It's still too early to tell, but we'll see what happens by Spring.
I still want blu-ray to succeed.

PS2 itself had a slow launch. (I'm surprised no one remembers this!)
Once Sony kicks down the price (if they're willing to do this) and when good games finally come out, PS3 will probably catch up.
But heh, I want to know how the hell people can find PS3's in their cities so easily when they're out of stock here. (I'm not joking. Couldn't find any where I live. When there's a PS3 shipment, they're gone the day they get the shipment in. Same with Wii shipment.)
Wii just has the hype right now because of the wiimote... but it might be a while before Nintendo really feels the backlash from people who decide that they don't want to touch their wiimotes because they're too tired from a long day at work. :/
-- One of my friends on LJ was talking about how he had a horrible long day at work and was just too tired to even look at the wii. He said that it would have been better to just relax while playing on wii. (It is possible to do this but I'm not sure how senestive the wiimote is. I'd really need to test this out but no one I know who has a wii in my area... and I won't be able to get a wii myself for several months. (Mainly, saving up money and seeing if there's ever an actual shipment that doesn't vanish immediately.))abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

It is possible to play Wii without standing up or stretching your hand out to play. What I like to do whenever I play the FPS, "Red Steel", I hold the Wiimote and Nunchuk close to my torso and simply point at the screen, while sitting down. To tell you the truth, I think it's the only way to play Red Steel.

I got my PS2 before Christmas actually back in 2000. I don't remember the demand for them after that initial rush. But what I *do* remember is that there were not stacks of unsold PS2's sitting there this close after Christmas.

Sony is taking a HUGE hit on the cost of the Blue Ray player in the $600 model. I don’t know if the price on that will drop anytime soon.
But heh, I want to know how the hell people can find PS3's in their cities so easily when they're out of stock here. |
I saw two at the Target right across the street from where I work, and a stack at Best Buy.

Yeah, someone I know here at work has a Wii and they say you need to do the stabbing motions to swing a sword, and whatnot. To be honest... that would wear VERY VERY thin for me really quick. Sometimes I just like to sit, veg, and button mash. I do agree that is just a fad. I guess there are no regular type controllers and a replacement set costs $60 (I always maintain the more technical something is, the more likely it is to go out on you).
I hope I'm wrong. I am dying to play Half Life 2 eps. 1 and 2 on the PS3, as well as Oblivion.
Only time can tell what kind of Oblivion is actually slated for the PS3

I think he meant that Wii would be $400 if you bought all the controllers for it... and the accessories. *sweatdrops*
But yes, Wii is normally 250 dollars.

Remember when the intellivision costed that much. Then you could buy all the addons for it like the voice module, Then the computer for it and I think there was an option for the printer too and the cassette as well to save your basic programs. And the commodore 64 as well was like that and their components too.

As I see it, Sony has almost same big-headed attitude Nintendo had just before the N64 and Virtual Boy came out and humbled their ass.
